Buffalo Is Still Reeling From Racist Massacre

  • After a white supremacist attacked an East Buffalo supermarket, residents found that it was up to them to pick up the pieces. With the neighborhood’s only grocery store closed for the foreseeable future and the loss of 10 of its community members, activists and volunteers spent weeks filling the void by identifying the needs of the people, knocking on doors, organizing food giveaways and speaking to the city’s youth.
But many of the issues they saw weren’t just a result of the recent tragedy, but of decades of neglect, disinvestment, and racism. VICE News visited East Buffalo to see how the community is dealing with the ripple effects of the racist attack that changed this predominantly Black neighborhood forever.

She can never forget cowering and shaking in the food storage area of the freezer wondering if she was going to live. Then leaving with police escort and having to walk over the bodies of people she had known her coworkers. I know four people who were killed at Santa Fe high School in Texas. I can't help but notice how everyone is focusing on what the community thinks can stop this. But the problem doesn't originate in the community, the person wasn't radicalized by people in their community. They did it to themselves through the internet, so maybe there should be more of a discussion about how to stop this radicalization. Understanding how someone gets to that point is the best way to stop it, and the answers are right there. Loneliness, isolation, being left out of the community leads to hating it.

Kids should be worried about what they’re gonna do when they get home from school, what game they’re gonna play, stuff that kids should be doing. I feel so bad not only for the kids but the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, all of them. Because they’re scared that the next generation is gonna die. -november 2021: an african/american (adult) male in a vehicle kills 6 (six) with over 65 injured weeks before christmas. with a litney of 'racist" based statements/beliefs and postings. the deceased were (elderly) of a seniors "dance" group (limited news and "outrage").

did our (claimed) senior leader fuel up "AF1" and go consol the family of the 16 killed (colorado and Wisconsin) or in NY city; hence another (black) racist incident/hate "crime"?.
no; he (biden) waits until there is an incident that fits his (warped) and delusional agenda and social "calling" and then travels.
we never see "media" investigating these (clear) distinctive african/american (two of them) racially based "hate" crimes/incidents, but this article is titled "racist massacre". see wisconsin and NY was not, per se; a "crime" it was social "venting" by (adult) minority's.

As the famous quote goes: "Kids don't know racism. It is something that is taught."
And I believe the reason why the shooter specifically targeted black people was not because he hated black people per se, but rather believed in the "Great Replacement Theory", and so felt he needed to act because he was afraid that white people will eventually become a minority in the US.
Crazy ideology, but in a country where far-right ultraconservative groups like the Proud Boys exist, people believing in such things shouldn't be too surprising. And yet the conservatives/right will try to tell you that it's the left that's a threat to society.

Most of them either have no other choice or learn from what’s around them and it doesn’t make it better that communities like that get shunned or outcasted and therefore turn the community into a fight to survive situation. If more ppl cared to address that it could start a turn as to why crime is so high among one another but that’s not a conversation most people want to have or even address.

@@Bowlowtie look, no one is holding a gun to these kids head forcing them to commit crime. It's just that the lifestyle is so lucrative and it's glamorized. Another big part of the issue is that 75% of black households are single parent households, and it's not the father's raising the kids. It's been shown that single mother households are responsible for raising highly degenerate people, drug addicts, abusers, alcoholics, violent offenders, while single father households are better at raising people that contribute to society. It seems like to me, that those households that lack the father to put the fear of authority into these kids are why so many incidents with police happen. They have no respect of authority, which leads to them pulling guns on the cops, or fighting with the cops, resisting arrest, thinking they can just ignore the cops and try to just walk away or whatever and just simple traffic stops can suddenly turn deadly. Along with all this, I think there is a major problem with blaming anything and everything but addressing some of these real reasons and it just gets put on racism, or systemic racism, when to be truthful, most white people in America are too busy raising their own families or working their 9-5 to care about what other people, even other whites, are doing and it's only because this gang culture and violence has such an impact on innocent bystanders and other crime that affects the community, is why people have resentment for the criminals. So too much attention is put on whites supposedly being racist and this "problem" with cops "killing" black people or "over policing" black neighborhoods seems like a distraction from the real issues. I mean to blame the police for why there are so many black men in prison is as stupid as blaming the bandaid for the cut that it's on top of. Police are a reactionary service. Crime happens, police are called, they handle the crime they are called to. It's not like police are driving up and down the street looking to bust any black person for every little crime and then just executing them cause they are black, it's just a cop out no pun intended. There needs to be change in the way black people are raised and I think this is a conversation that the community needs to have with themselves, there isn't much of anything other communities can do that they don't already do. I'm not saying there is absolutely no racism in America, but I think that animosity towards the black community much of it is a reaction to disregard that is seen from all the gangs and gang activity.

My family had houses in east Buffalo, the last house was two blocks off of Genesee, near Kehr. That was the house where my grandparents lived, (they both passed in the 1970's). Watching this brings me back, so many memories of my childhood are connected with that hood. We ended up in E. Amherst, every Sunday after church mom would drive us to visit our grandparents, down Genesee. During the "long, hot summer" riots, Genesee St. was one burnt out business after another. In my mind, it was the long hot summer rioting that polarized the Buffalo community concerning race, everyone seemed to get along previously, bc everyone worked together (at Bethlehem, etc.) and lived together in an integrated community. I am horrified at what happened at Tops. It's proof that we still have work to do to educate, and to legislate for gun control. Race is a creation not a biological construct. America has never fixed or repaired this creation. This country has only brought in “people of color” to mask the Black failure that they have woven into the fabric of everything here (religion, education, failing schools & cities, etc). The most important component they stripped from was/is wealth & wealth building. We were forced to build the richest country of all time & then bottom casted. The veil of entertainment & sports has been the only way out. Thanks #ADOS organization for this full understanding of the construct
that’s defined by our lineage and not by color itself. American Descendants of Slavery for Reparations, policies, & protections ✌🏾🙏🏾.

The grocery store was kinda in North Buffalo community. I used to shop there. I lived at a Ukrainian woman’s house on Military and Hertel. Like where Jasper’s at. I was displaced from N Buffalo by a white supremacist, another one of this lady’s tenants. I am Puerto Rican and I used to shop at N Buffalo Tops because it has Puerto Rican food. I live close by still and I wanted to cook sancocho. The thought of blood on the Puerto Rican root vegetables for making a traditional soup that were sold at the store sicken me constantly since this shooting. White Supremacy is a disease. Just remember that we’re that amazing we are a “threat to their existence.”

I hope tragedies like this and the racist tragedy of Waukesha are remembered. So sad to see white people killing people of color and black people killing white people or people of Asian ethnicity for no other reason than race. In the end, it really comes down to mental health issues and the family unit is so broken up within our society. We need more caring fathers and mothers that raise better human beings and better mental healthcare to help those in need.
