  • "Music for Raymond Hains", a free improvisation by Max Ridgway - guitar and bass, and Randall Colbourne - drums, recorded on June 9, 2014.
Raymond Hains was a French artist who made use of collage techniques using found, torn posters from street advertisements. In his appropriation of the mass-media of his day, Hains anticipated artists such as Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg. Hains viewed himself as an alternative to the subjectivity and over-indulgence of American action painters Jackson Pollock and Willem De Kooning. In fact, Hains once characterized himself as an "inaction painter". Hains embraced the surrealist aim of elevating the mundane elements of everyday life to a higher reality. "The picture should not be considered as a world in itself, rather, the world itself should be seen as a picture."

That is so well-connected to the visual. love the backwards & stereo effects. Hats off to Randall, also. I wasn't familiar with the artist but I really enjoy the slide show.
