    Very simple yet very powerful lesson here. It's not really a "tip" this gentleman is providing here. It's more of a "gift". I'm a scratch golfer and if you were to listen to no other golf instruction EVER for the rest of your life, you're going to do just fine if you keep working on what he says in this 10 minute clip and then keep building on it. So many instructors over complicate the swing and confuse people with their teachings. People leave feeling that the pro is blessed and they could never do this and they feel the teacher means well but is simply way more talented at golf than you'll ever be. NOT TRUE. Many golf pros don't know how to teach. This one is crystal clear in communicating, tells the simple TRUTH, and if you can just believe that's it's really not that complicated then it'll work. If you are looking for some long technical explanation for how the golf swing works then go elsewhere and keep being confused. No joke. Paul obviously cares or he wouldn't share this video. Nice of him. Many of you have no idea the power of what he's saying here. Don't dismiss this video.

      Thank you for your kind words. Glad you picked up on that. Years ago when I was learning the swing I made it complicated. It got me nowhere. Once I made it simple I got it. Simple is the key for sure. I have always thought this way. If you understand it, then you will see the importance and actually do it.

      Extremely helpful comment Alex particularly from someone of your handicap ability!. This completely vindicates my own thoughts-albeit I am a mediocre golfer! Going elsewhere has resulted in my becoming totally confused. Not any more!

    This is one of the best golf tips I have ever watched on TH-cam. A lot of golfers me included have long struggled with the arms being far to fast for the lower body in the down swing. This bit of advice you have given has cured that problem. When I get to the top of my swing now my first trigger thought is buckle which makes me rotate lower body and everything else falls into place. Thanks Paul from a UK fan 👍

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For sure. You need a thought. Something from the waist down that will get your body moving. It will not move on its own no matter what anyone says. If it did everyone would be good. Fire the lower and let the arms follow. Do that and you hit it dead straight. Good job.

    I can testify that Paul Wilson's philosophy 100% works. What helped me personally master it, was standing up straight with the golf club held out in front of me and then rotating just my shoulders (ie keeping arms powerless) for the backswing and then rotating hips (again keeping arms powerless) for the downswing. This really gets you feeling the body doing the work in your swing, not your arms. Then I do one more practice swing with my upper body tilted and club in the air, repeating the same movement. Then, I go ahead and hit the ball with the same movement. The only other things I focus on is making sure I rotate my shoulders as far as possible on the backswing and ensuring I have hinged my wrists at the top of the swing. I then have a momentary pause at the top of the swing and let my lower body rip. It works, trust me! Thanks for saving my game Paul.

      Thanks for the support. You need to stay focused and not get greedy. This is tough but if you see it clearly you will know that hitting hard is not going to give you any more distance and it increases the chance of mishits. Be content with the center of the fairway all day long. As I said in a previous tip, confidence breeds distance. You keep hitting fairway after fairway you will start hitting it longer due to confidence without even thinking about it.

    Yet another great video from the master! I've been following your advice for several months now and have become a total convert. I'm 82 years old with an index of 20.1. Yet, using your techniques, I shot 80 at Four Mile Ranch two days ago and 83 today at Murphy Creek. I expected to hit the ball farther using the body instead of my arms but I am very pleasantly surprised how easy it is to hit the ball straighter as well. Just as an aside, I find that turning my hips as you prescribe is difficult but can be done with some effort and training. The hardest part for me is not letting the arms help in any way at all. In tense situations they want to jump in and "add" some help. And why not? That's how I did it over over 60 years!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Thanks so much. Nice round. Now that is a huge improvement. When you are ready start firing the lower body faster. This is how to get more. I would do this when you have more low 80's under your belt. Glad you know not to use your arms. I still tell myself to not do that.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hit the top with your weight loaded 80/20 into the back foot. Turn back to the ball. When you do you will be back to 50/50 Once you get to 50/50 and are facing the ball you keep turning. Belt buckle will end up left of the target when you are done. So no, you are not spinning out.

    Paul, this is the best tip. I practice it at home and I have tried it on the course, it has given amazing results. I need to practice to become good at kicking my legs and hips harder in the down swing to get longer distance. Accuracy has already improved. Thanks a lot for your excellent lessons.

    • @paulwilsongolf

      Yes, this is a big one for sure. You need to do this every day for a while until you get used to it. Do it along with this drill:
      th-cam.com/video/LAejvDbw_aA/w-d-xo.html
      If you do, you will hit it longer than every. I hand it to people on a silver platter yet they don't do the work. You get this and you will hit it better than you ever have. Stay focused and stay loose.

      Hi Paul, another great tip/lesson. I have a quick question though, I have videoed my swing and find that even with my hip rotation I am getting the club above my back forearm on the way down (steep). Is there a way to shallow this out without manipulation?
      On the way back my hands are in line with my arm pit, my grip is neutral and my wrist is flat.
      Any advice would be great, thanks.

    Paul, This is the miracle one for me, after years of watching videos of people talking about lightbulb moments.I have tried everything trying to cure my slice.
    Just hit 50 balls at the range and honestly, I didn't hit one slice using this (so it's obvious what I have been doing for years) also I was hitting my 3 wood off the mat further than I usually hit driver. The sound was incredible.

      Anyone can do this. Just need to do it a different way. You need super loose wrists. You don't have to be strong to be loose. So as I said anyone can do it. Got to trust the sensation of being loose. Once you get that you hit it by coiling and uncoiling your body. In simple terms that it. So please give it a try. At some point you have to realize hitting hard DOES NOT work and never will.

    Thanks Paul..........your videos make a difference in my understanding of the golf swing. So many of the instructors out here overcomplicate things, and even though they may be 100% correct in what they are saying. If I can't relate or understand what they are talking about , it has zero value to me. Your videos are easy to comprehend and are well explained. That is characteristic of all good teachers! Thanks so much!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This over complication has been around for years. This is what I did many years ago and it got me nowhere. Once I made it simple I got it. Knowing this, had me thinking "fast and easy" from lesson 1 over 31 years ago. So this is why I say things the way I say them. So many people have commented they they get it when I explain it. This is half the battle. Thanks for your support.

If you can keep this thought in mind you will improve super fast and not develop the bad habits on the majority of golfers.

Read most of it last night and watched a couple of your TH-cam videos today. I"m going to completely re-work my swing and thought process based on your teaching method. Have a net and mat in my backyard and going to begin with grip and the 2/3 drill, albeit I dont have a swing monitor, and then go to the driving range with my rangefinder and continue. Getting your arms & "hit" mantra out of your golf swing is like trying to get a dog not to bark at strangers......it still creeps in my minset on course....the way i overcome it is with 2 body swings practice swings in the air and swinging w/o thinking about anything but my belt bucke turning and finishing like this video and having my arms feel like ropes and loose wrists releading following those hips...it helps reset my mindset into the bodyswing mantra on every shot.....it takes probably a whole season and lots of practice swings to make this a permanaent change.....but ohhhh! So worth it!

      Yes, working on it yourself rarely works. Glad you see it sooner rather than later and are going to understand it and work on it a little differently. This is actually not that hard to build a great swing if you know what you are doing. I took a student from 95 to 75 in 2 months and he never hit one practice ball. I literally gave him a 10 mins lesson per week showing him one thing to work on. Then he did in only in practice swings. Without the ball he wasn't using his arms to hit hard. He got used to the moves and positions without distractions. So when you say contact practice you need to not hit ball after ball. You need to do more practice swings working on precise positioning vs beating balls. Not sure if you have my Body Swing videos or not. There I show the exact positions and how to put them together step-by-step. If not you can use the tips but I don't give everything away here. So hit less balls. Do more practice swings working on precise positions like a pro or better player would be working on it. At a 15 hdcp your swing needs work for sure. You can still play and work on your short game too.

      Yes. My problem too! It can feel so effortless in practice but hard to replicate on the course because you worry about your score and manipulate the club instead of swinging it with loose arms and wrists. Maybe have to get on the course more often vs practice? Don't worry about score. Handicap.Mental battle as well as physical. Part of it is when it works you're thinking to yourself it can't be this easy and try to incorporate other moves like the pros make but I think their swing types are not compatible with Paul's method.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to go out by yourself with 3 golf balls in your pocket. You don't keep score. You swing at 50%. Drop balls and hit extra shots. It is about actually trying something new when you play. If you keep doing your old swing when do you ever change. With driver you pick a close target a few yards away or way way way in the distance that you cannot possibly reach. You cannot pick a fairway bunker at 250. This is a distance thought. So with new targets your thought to hit the fairway not hit it 250 down the fairway. Keep doing this by yourself until you get used to it. Right now if you play with others you will think distance and you will hit some bad shots. So try my way and get make the switch.
      Tons of pro do what I teach (old school). The new swing they are working on is not dominating and never will. Who is #1 right now? Scheffler (old school swing). How did the best of all time swing? Until the new swing (which I tried over 20 years ago which killed my back and I couldn't keep it out of the parking lot to the right) dominates I will never teach this swing. Stay focused. Sounds like you are close but you need to keep repeating it. So do practice swings daily at home. This is the fastest, easiest way to get it.

It's takes some commitment, but it's oh so worth it.

These guys see pros do that in video but they are watching it in slow mo. The time it takes to do that is a millisecond. Why not load to the right and unload to the left into the follow through. If so, the weight will shift because you can't to the left in the follow through without shifting. In other words it will happen without even thinking about it. Sounds like you are on track so keep doing what you are doing. Fun times ahead.

      Glad you found me. I have helped countless people play pain free golf. A lot of it is hitting with the arms. Another issue is bending over too much at set up and through impact. This tip has you firing the lower body which you need to do to get the weight off the back foot while swinging through into the follow through. So all good things. As for the set up think about basketball. Someone is going to throw you a ball. You are in a ready position looking at the person going to throw it. Put your hands together then start looking down until you can see the club and ball clearly not your toes. If you see your toes you are too low. This will get you taller and it's easy to check. Now as you go to hit balls you will probably hit it thin or even top it for 5 mins. Start with 7-iron and tee it up. If you do you will get used to the taller set up and will be hitting it perfectly in no time. Then lower the tee.

    Totally agree - this isn’t a tip - it’s a lesson, you can tell he does it for the genuine pleasure of sharing knowledge to prove it works - I love that feeling too where you know something and can show someone and get the satisfaction of seeing it prove you correct - what Paul is doing here is everything that the salesman “get the perfect swing and “secrets” advertises and purely wants to see finance and no interest in progress or results just the course fees.
    Good on you Paul I’m exactly the same - if I know something 100% correct that someone needs - I get the satisfaction of seeing my knowledge or info etc prove correct - I’d feel embarrassed asking for money! Hopefully just doing the subscription and the ads can pay the way you deserve!
    The only question/slight niggle in the mind is your address position , the hands seem very floppy and not ahead of the ball and stable for an iron - do you do this for a reason - after all if it’s me who’s looking wrongly then I’ll adjust to improve!! A true person is someone who can self assess regularly and listen to all information and use what’s helpful and discard what isn’t - I come across so many stubborn people that won’t change that would benefit them because they’re so adamant they won’t consider it? For me surely if someone has something that I don’t and can be beneficial why would I not use it to better myself? Seems strange people would actually sabotage and dismiss info that would change them for better but they won’t use it because it means admitting what they believed in blindly was wrong and so would rather stay wrong than change? Very strange, for me your lesson is nothing but useful information to compute and I thank you for it 👍. P.S I live in the UK , i am a fully qualified electrician aswell as Solar PV installer and EV charging installer - qualified certificates for all, my dream has been to live and work in the USA, I’ve never been but it feels like a home I’m due to come back to, it’s just impossible to get in!!! So if anyone reading this has any job vacancy at all even mowing lawns just to get me across the pond then I’m very interested!!

      Thanks for the comment and noticing I actually care. People seem to be struggling out there and still being confused. I will keep it simple and hopefully people can start playing better.
      I don't set the club behind the ball because I don't want to touch the ball. I am also not taking it back with my hands because I don't want to activate them as I go back. You can try it.
      Yes, it is super tough to get in here. I did it 20 years ago this year and never looked back. I would look into the Solar path given the new bill that just passed there will be many jobs in this field which I highly doubt they will be able to fill. Just go onto the gov website. That's what I did. I did it all myself. If not find an immigration attorney.

    First, thank you Paul for your video help! I have been struggling this year with my swing for whatever reason. I am 57 and up till last year carried a 12 HC. This year started coming over the top and shanking my fair share of shot(something i never had an issue in the past). I know that starting with the lower body will correct my issues but having a hard time with it.
    I will go home later today and work on this. Again, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you need to do something because over the top is hitting with arms. Shanking is arms too. So you need to get them turned off asap. Hopefully, you know my technique. Neutral grip. Taller set up. Coil and hinge going back ... uncoil and rehinge coming down. You are not hitting or helping the shot in any way with you arms. Typically I work on the arm unit first. Neutral grip then hinge and rehinge. Get it hooking by rolling from the top. This is fixing the SPIN. Once you can consistently hook about 5-10 in a row you then switch to firing your lower body to start to straighten it out. You add a little body to make it go a little less left. Watch your ball. Keep firing the lower harder and harder until it goes dead straight. Fire too hard you blow it right so you need to slow down. Keep watching your ball. It will tell you exactly what to do. Keep the arms relaxed and wrists super loose. I would do this drill too. I call it taming the wild stallion (you):

    Glad I found you Paul, I have extremely bad elbow tendinitis from ‘hitting at’ the ball. Leaving me almost unable to play. I am going to make it through all of your instructional videos to hopefully remedy this issue. Really love the belt buckle to the ball drill, really feels good. Going to go out and hit a few today, swinging full but 50% distance with a belt buckle thought. I need to work on the body rotation to hit with my body and not my arms! Thank you for these, really appreciate it.

      This pain is telling you that you are hitting for sure. Glad you see it now. In no way should my swing hurt your body. If so, you are doing it wrong. So loosen the arms to allow the weight of the club to stretch them out. So hinge and rehinge to get the wrists unlocked. Loosen the arms to get them extending and coil uncoil to power your swing. This is all a good start.

Before I started watching Paul, hitting that many golf balls would have left me with a strained and sore back. Now my back feels fine, but my legs and hips definitely feel it. "You have to replace the thought of hitting with another thought."
    The ultimate key to change. If you truly want to transform your swing, you must embrace this concept. It facilitates everything else.
    Thanks, Paul.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. The problem in golf is that no matter how bad you are if you hit enough balls you will hit a few good ones. So what do people think? They think they've got it when really it was luck. So unless people hit the majority of their shots well they don't have it. To get it you can't keep thinking of the same things as you always have. So change the thought and you change your swing.
