How long does it take to complete this procedure? How do I know that the chain needs to be changed? Would you recommend me to do it myself with no experience? Mechanics here want to charge a lot of money, but i feel they are lying to me 😢

well it is a kind of a lot that you have to do and specially if it is your first time you will get more time than usual. I would recomend taking it to a mechanic maybe shop around hopefully you find some good mechanic. But if you are not having any issues with your engine your good for now

Thanks for this video. At 1:26 what tool and size did you use to rotate to bring the piston to the top dead center and align the two lines? It looks like you are rotating so smoothly.

Hi thanks for your support. So with the same crankshaft bolt I put it on the crankshaft and with a socket I’m not sure the size at this moment (19mm or 21mm) and extension and a 1/2 in ratchet and turn it over.

I have a 2012 elantra with the same issue. I have 300k miles on the car. A mechanic told me i should consider replacing the engine instead of doing the tensioner job because of the labor cost. But, where I live, I've had a hard time finding someone reliable to get a used engine and install it under 5k (I'm no mechanic but I've seen engines online from $900 on up depending on the mileage). So, I'm pretty handy, do you think it's worth me taking on this job and saving the money or should I leave it to the pros.

I’ll say if you can do it that good sometimes is better to replace the engine.
