    well done showing how it's done! i will attempt to fix it. it will also be helpful to say what are the sumptoms, telltale signs / sounds / etc.. of what leads to this fix. I believe it's starting it and the it feels like the starter is not engaging the engine, just whining away but not turning it would be a first sign?

    Great videos guys, very educational. I have two questions. 1) how clean was the inlet manifold and inlet valves being a GDI? 2) would you consider the engine damage was due to the trend of using _X20 grade oils? Would a W30 or 40 have saved this engine? Thanks so much for your videos.

    Thanks for the nice videos. I am changing the timing chain on my hyundai accent. It is very similar to the elantra. I have a couple of questions. 1) when you adjusted the colored links of the chain with the marks, you had to rotate the exhaust camshaft and the crankshaft a little bit. This caused the TDC marks on the CVVTs not to be aligned any more. Does this mean the engine is not in time?! 2) what is the reason you had to rotate the engine 2 revolutions after installing the new chain? Thanks

    • @ajm114
      @ajm114 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You only replace it when you need to sort of deal. E.g: timing jumps randomly, odd noises or misfiring. And it usually only happens due to poor maintenance or if your engine was running dangerously low on oil. Tho changing it at 200k miles wouldn't hurt for prevention if you really wanted to keep the engine going if you wanted to be a perfectionist. Recommend a good cleaning the intake valves too. Since those two are the weakest link of these engines specially GDI.

      It is actually based on what type of engine oil you use. Hyundai recomends for its veichles with nu engine that is exact engine on Elantra MD to use 5w20 or5w30. If exploated in normal conditions i refer use of 5w20 as gap between cylinder and piston is not more than 1000 microns (1mm). So ideal oil for elantra is 5w20.so if you use 5w20 for entire life of car and change it in every 5000 km.that means your engine cleans properly and your timing chain is not tensioned because nozzle of timing chain hydraulitic tensioner is not clogged with oil deposits and your tensioner is working. Use 5w20 , change oil in every 5000 km and just dont think about your timing chain until 200k miles. I also owe elantra md 2013 with 100k miles on odometer, everyting is ok with car. Use shell 5w20 and change it in every 5k km.

    Timing chains should never have to be replaced. Maybe a chain tensioner but never a chain unless some manufacturers defect or the oil jas never been changed but if that was the case you'd have way more problems than a timing chain.

      All cars have a timing chain or belt to change. Find it at AutoZone then order it through eBay or Amazon.

    So if my timing chain only makes a noise sometimes, like certain RPM, do you think it is just the tensioner that needs to be replaced?

      Should last the life of the engine if you're doing oil changes in time and using quality oil. You can hear the slapping or ticking noise from your engine if your chain is stretched.

    why the chain jump like that when you was turning it ?

    • @adamstephens9611
      @adamstephens9611 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because there is no oil pressure on the tensioner, he even said it in the video. When the car is reassembled and is turned on, it won't jump like that
