Great video man, the bolts at the end I’m sure saved many people. Smart man.
Thank you! Appreciate that!
Great video. I had to swap motors after crank bearing failure a few years ago. I'm literally out in the garage right now working on tearing the head off for head gasket replacement. Thanks for the video!!
Sure no problem! Thanks for the feedback!
@@Motorcarnut hola, que kilometraje tiene este vehículo para tener que cambiar estas cadenas ??
Se coloca una silicona para sellar mejor? Yo tengo fuga por los tornillos de lado izquierdo superior
@Pe.Tennis I would reply but for some reason I can’t copy and paste your text to convert into English
@@Motorcarnut hello, what is the mileage of this vehicle to have to change these chains?
Do you put a silicone to seal better? I have leakage from the upper left side bolts.
@Pe.Tennis you should replace timing chain tensioner asap and gasket maker for sealing the timing cover
Dod you take the inside fender panel off to get access to the bottom half of cover. Dod you also have to take off all engine mounts
Yes on both
Appreciate the video! You make it look way too easy :D I might be delusional but I have never worked on cars, but after this i think i could do it!
You can do it! If you get stuck give me a shout out! Good luck!
Ur awesome brother saved my new kia rondo
Glad to hear that! And thank you for the feedback!
Thank you. This video is very nice and clear.Could you please make a tutorial how to replace the Timing Chain and serpentin belt in a ford 2009 petrol/ gas,1.8l, 4 cyl,125ps
Thank you!, sure thing when I get one in.
Awesome video. Super informative. About to do it in my sorento and am really glad I watched this
Glad it helped! And appreciate the feedback!
Me too, I have a Kia sorento, how did you get on. My sorento has started making a knocking sound, think it's possibly rod bearing issue however found little plastic bits in the oil sump Which looks like from a tensioner. So expecting to find damage, good luck
@@cabreallsiams9277 actually ended up getting really lucky. I started under the hood and noticed new/ non factory looking rtv squeezed out from the timing cover and the cover was much cleaner than the rest of the motor. I bought the car in June with 100k on it and my guess is the chain had been replaced fairly recently. I let the engine run and listened and it actually ended up being one of the alternator bolts had completely backed out and up against the frame and the other loose. And that was causing the rattle at idle and low rpm. Zipped them back in and problem went away.
man, you are my hero.
Thank you! Appreciated!
why the dark marks on the chain are not aligned on the crankshaft and on the camshaft yes 🤔
Don’t understand what you’re trying to say. Watch entire video
You're the best! I can understand everything you are saying unlike these russians!
Thank you! Appreciated!
90 inch pounds for the tensioner bolts, Isn’t way too much for a a 10 mm bolt could that correct ??
Yes inch pounds not foot pounds
Just performed this same job on daughter's Sorento 2.4 due to a startup rattle. Replaced chains and tensioners along with pulleys and belt. Whole job was pretty straightforward and went without a hitch. Initially it seemed to quite it down, but five days later I noticed the rattle again. Any ideas what else might be causing this rattle? It's not a deep frequency knock like a rod bearing knock, and it goes away quickly when oil pressure builds. Engine is very quiet after that. 113k miles, very well maintained by me, very clean inside, premium synthetic oil. Any ideas welcome.
Sometimes is can be the variable cam gear on the camshaft that when they start to fail they bleed down and you get the second or two rattle. I have videos on Hondas that have that problem.
@@Motorcarnut thanks, yeah was thinking it has something to do with that. The kit I bought had the upper cam gears but those were the only pieces I did not replace since did not see excessive wear on teeth. Will research replacement of these gears. Thank you for reply.
@williamjstayton no problem
Does your number one piston have to be all the way up?
Yes but Don’t worry to much about that just line up the cams and timing chain marks
Do you have the torque specs on the timing chain cover, and the sequence
Very thankful for the video man.
I have a question tho..there is 2 lines go to the cabin from the water pump,I believe it's for the cabin heating and it's return,I had to disconnect it,and it was pressurized antifreeze in itonce I'm done with the timing part, and start assembly,do I have to do anything with it,or just connect it back and it will pressurize itself?
Again big thanks for the video man you helped me big big time
No problem and thanks for the feedback. Just reconnect them and when the coolant gets hot it will circulate through the heater core and everything will be find as soon as you feel heat inside the vehicle.
Much appreciated!!!!
Sending you lots of respect and love from Alberta,Canada!!
Thank you! Very much appreciated as well!
There's no way possible I could do something like this myself I just watched the video to get some kinda idea what my mechanic friend will be going through when he changes the chain on my 2007 sonata. A question. My local autozone has the chain kits for over $400, I find a kit on amazon for a mere $48.59. I can't imagine a price difference that big unless the new one is garbage. Am I better off staying away from the one from amazon?
As long as its the kit for your exact vehicle, get the Amazon kit.
@@Motorcarnut i gotter ordered last night. I guess that it just in the back of my mind I'm a little nervous about something that cost 1 tenth the price lol
@KennethRisner-fz9sc no doubt the store brand is better quality but I had people buy parts off Amazon and for the price and quality it’s hard to pass it up
@@Motorcarnut Brother I don't mean ta jawbone ya ta death, but one more question. How much would a good mechanic like yourself charge for labor for a job like this? I'm asking because my friend, who is a self trained mechanic and is very good in what he does and hasnt failed me yet in a lot of jobs, offered him $200 and he gladly accepted. ON another hand I'm told if I had it done at a garage with brand name parts I could have $1500 or more in the job
@KennethRisner-fz9sc $200 is a favor basically. $1500 or so is about right, done professionally with warranty
Currently doing a diagnostic on a 15 Kia Optima 2.4L there’s a weird rattling/tapping sound coming from timing cover area. Took the valve cover off and noticed a lot of slack on the timing chain. Haven’t taken the timing cover off yet but will be doing so soon thanks to your video. Any idea what could be causing that obnoxious noise? Bad guides, tensioner, sprockets?
Timing chain is stretched. They are known for it. I wouldn't drive the car anymore until its fix. Chain is probably hitting the oil squirter.
Thanks Master
You're welcome!
Is it similar on the 3.8? I saw your oil pan video. ty for the uploads~!
Thank you!, the 3.8 is a 6 cylinder this is a 4 so they are different.
@@MotorcarnutThank you. I just wondered if the 6 can be done inside the cradle as well is all. I'll be watching your videos more frequently. You give regular folks hope!
@pullbackbaby thank you! I try my best to help! Yes it can be done in the vehicle just a little more time that’s all
Thanks for vid but for someone doing this on their driveway how do you secure the engine if you remove the engine bracket?
www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-capacity-engine-support-bar-96524.html?_br_psugg_q=engine+support+bar
Thank you for the video! Do the VVT sprockets/cam adjusters need to be replaced with the main chain?
Welcome! No they don’t unless they have more than normal wear.
@@Motorcarnut Thank you for the reply.
@SpacemanWithBeerInc no problem
Great vid thanks
No problem 👍
Can I ask a stupid question, at 2:20 you remove a bracket, I'm following your steps on my driveway, do I need to support the engine? I.e. will the engine drop if I remove this bracket. Thanks in advance
@@Motorcarnuthi, could you help with my query regarding time stamp 2:20, you remove some bracket, I'm about to copy but worried engine will fall, did you secure the engine before you removed the bracket? Thanks for any help/advice, really appreciate it
Im in the process of doing the timing chain on a 09 hyundai sonata 2.4L and your video was very helpful, but my oil pump doesn't have the mark to the left of the sprocket, how do i line up oil pump without that?
Are you sure, yours is the same, look closely
@@Motorcarnut can I send you a picture?
Post one on your channel and let me know
The oil pump chain should have been replaced. It is stretched.
Customer didn’t want to. It wasn’t that bad, but they have the final say
