    Classic has always been my choice and it won't change. Tethering is indespensable in my business shoots where clients can see their images before they leave the room. I rarely have access to the internet outside so having to stay connected is not an option, and most of all the Classics ability to categorize and sort files is Mandatory in my business.

      Yea I figured tethering would be a deal breaker for a lot of people. I think LR is a great option for those who are hobbyists and enthusiasts simply because it’s easier and still very powerful. Have an awesome weekend! ☺️

    I’m really missing #s 11 and 13 after making the switch to “regular” Lightroom late last year. I hope Adobe introduces both features into Lr soon! Enjoyed this presentation! 👍🏼

    Thank you for your enumeration of the differences. It answers my questions about Lr versus LrC. Probably because I have been using Lightroom since v3, long before it was renamed Classic, I have grown to need the catalog, make big use of hierarchical key wording, along with collections, virtual copies & plugin capabilities and have no desire or need to use the Cloud for photos and do most of my printing from Lightroom Classic, staying with LrC is my clear choice. For me, there is nothing that Lr can do better than LrC that would cause me to change my photo editing software and workflows.

      Glad you found it helpful. I can’t let go of Classic. Been using it for too long and it truly is part of my workflow. Have an awesome New Years! 😊

    Thanks, I don't think I will be switching anytime soon. I started using Lrc for the catalogue, and I also use many of the other features that you mentioned are not in Lr.

    Thanks Kate. Love your style and advice, I have been using lightroom more and more and you helped me decide i am the type 2 (dont use collections and get burnt by changing file locations over time ans constantly screwed up my catalog missing photos!!! Aaarhhhhh. I also use topaz and a bit of PS too. Thank you for your youtube post. A big like from me

    Thank you. I do actually use both but LrC is my main programme for editing, filing etc but when I have finished editing I upload a DNG version of my keeper shots to Lr as a cloud back up. I keep exactly the same folder structure in both and don't use syncing to upload to the cloud, I export and then import to Lr

    Good video. I switched cold turkey to Lr when they added the Local tab and mostly feel great about it, but keeping running lists like this is great. I would love to see Virtual Copies on the local tab as well as edit history though I worry that's not so easy in a browser based system rather than a catalog based system. All in all I am very happy I switched and I strongly believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives.
    I also agree with your point that you need to be all-in on one or the other.

      @@KateSilviaPhotography I'm pretty sure that some (though def not all) of these things will be added into Lr over the next year or two. I have found that the streamlined software, lack of catalogs and cloud capabilities far outweigh all of these missing items, and I know its only going to get better from here.

    thank you for your video. I am in the cross road to decided which one i should use. I have lightroom Classic which i have always use. However, i can see the advantage with lightroom 1T storage cross plateforms especially for travellig. what would you suggest? Is new lightroom good for OS file system and easy workflow?

    • @KateSilviaPhotography
      @KateSilviaPhotography  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! I would definitely use LR if you do a lot of traveling and don’t want the inconvenience of the catalog system. Having all your essential images in the cloud is very convenient. The Album system is really nice. I love being able to take photos with my phone and have them immediately show up on my iPad or laptop where I can see them
      Larger and decide which ones I want to keep or edit further. As long as there’s a good internet connection, it’s seamless. ☺️

    Nicely put, still far away😢from my reality, I love the image search so much more but the rest doesn’t compensate. Also local doesn’t seem to work on encrypted drives, if some one knows how, let me know!

    Thanks, great to hear a list of differences. I've been scratching around trying to find out if I've done the right thing by switching to LR.. I started using LRC about 3 months ago and found the whole catalogue / workflow to be a faff. I switched to LR when the Local drives became available. It simplifies the storage and management of photos for me because they are all managed on my PC & SSD. The thing I miss is the history / snapshot functionality which is not available on LR.

    • @KateSilviaPhotography
      @KateSilviaPhotography  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm glad it was helpful. I too...miss the history in LR. For now, since I've been using Classic for almost 10 years, I'll stick with Classic. But I'm using LR for all my mobile work which has been a life saver for all my iPhone images. There was total chaos on my phone previously. LOL! Have an awesome day!

    Thanks for clearing up some of the changes. I've noticed that my collections are gone from my lightroom classic and I now see them in the new lightroom. Can they be imported back into classic form new lightroom?

    • @KateSilviaPhotography
      @KateSilviaPhotography  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m afraid that Lightroom Classic and Lightroom are not meant to work together. They’re meant for different types of photography workflows. I’m not sure why collections would have disappeared. Updating the software might help if you haven’t done that lately. ☺️

    Also missing from Lightroom (Desktop) is the ability to display the large .psb files. For example, I send an image to Photoshop. I work nondestructive and keep all the steps. I end up with a file too large to save in either a .psb or a .tiff file. So Photoshop save the large file as a .psb file.
    Works great in Lightroom Classic. Not working in Lightroom (Desktop).
    With that said, I am transitioning to Lightroom (Desktop). I love not having to worry about the Catalog file becoming corrupt; which has happened more than once on my computer.

    Good information, practical and very helpful. Thank you. It is obvious that you are experienced and know Lr/LrC well. One suggestion: lose the stock-photo "fight" stuff at the beginning. It detracts from the otherwise good production quality and professionalism of your presentation. Just my opinion.

    The “new” LR seems to be a big step backwards. New software should have new features to augment what is already there not just different that require that the user change totally how to accomplish a task especially without a good reason.

    • @KateSilviaPhotography
      @KateSilviaPhotography  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m amazed they didn’t include simple tasks like renaming. I think the program is great for folks new to Adobe and don’t need to do much more than basic to intermediate editing and organization.
