    Renaming myth about Lr. I just tested renaming using LrC vs. Lr. 12 new photos sitting on my Mac desktop names by the iPhone camera. I counted 8 steps (not counting minor steps within dialogue boxes) to rename within LrC - starting with 'Import'. No 'Import' using Lr. Click 'Local' and select a folder. Right-click ANY one photo to Show In Finder and the entire group appear within Finder. (they are all pre-selected). Use the OS (Finder) rename feature - close Finder. Select All (if desired) then "Copy X Photo(s) to Cloud. New named photos are now on my local drive AND in the Cloud.

    Use Lr....OR LrC...and keep Photos for your finished images. Photos have gained functionality, but not even equal to Aperture from way back when. Lr/LrC is great, but storage costs gets a bit outrageous if you want to use their higher tiered cloud storage (as well)

    Awesome tutoria! Apple definitely makes it harder than it needs to be. For long-term management, consider Lightroom Classic with a NAS. No monthly cloud fees, no storage limits! Imagine having to redo this if you hit your Adobe storage or switch services. A NAS is a one-time cost that gives you total control. Back up directly from your phone and access photos at full speed without waiting for uploads/downloads at home.

    Thanks--- you've confirmed exactly what I thought was going on with Photos. I hadn't heard of the utility to get all the photos out of Photos so that was a great piece of information. The other option I've had mixed success with is using an external editor from within Photos.... which feels very clumsy. So a useful video , although a tad repetitive, but I've ranted about this myself :) Thanks for making it!

    True, but if you see someone selling something at a great deal, jump on it and later sell off what you don't need. I recently bought a Sony a6500 with a 50mm lens and a zoom lense 18-135 mm for $1500 CDN with rechargable batteries (4) and 2 filter lens as well. Also has a 256 gig memory card. Just the body alone was going for $1k to 1.2k on other ads. So the best thing as well is to buy used if possible. You can save TONS of cash.

      Hmmm. Are you in Lightroom Classic or Lightroom? Regular Lightroom doesn’t support plugins but Lightroom classic does. You could also just open the raw file directly into the Topaz software and circumvent Adobe. Just be sure to import the results if you’re using Lightroom Classic for all your photo editing. It could also have to do with your Lightroom Classic preferences for plugin work. Resetting preferences could help but you might want to do some further research on that. I hope this helps. ☺️

      Most of the time, just right clicking and launching is just fine. Only when the noise is exceptionally bad or if I plan on making a large print, would I take the extra step to open it as a RAW file. Most of the time, it won't make a huge difference. Happy Editing! :)

    While recently on safari in Kenya I took photo of Cheetah 15 minutes after sunset at 20,000 ISO. It was fully recoverable. I denoised in Lightroom at 70%. That still left a little noise, so I followed up putting through Topaz AI which completed the denoise and added some sharpening. I find running through both programmes produces best result in really high ISO situations. Using just LR will soften a little, while put straight in Topaz may leave artifacts. I export from Topaz as a JPG to avoid storage of huge files.

    I use both programs you mentioned. Still testing both for high ISO images shot with my RF 100-500mm that only opens to 7.1 at 500mm. In low light, it’s a pretty good bet that Auto ISO takes it way up there! I switched from Lightroom Classic to Lightroom and now to Adobe Camera RAW then Photoshop. I’ll denoise anytime it’s needed, and will use Topaz and/or Lightroom randomly. I wish Adobe would add plugin support in Lightroom, Lightroom Classic has it and it’s one of the features I miss. I switched to Lightroom Desktop because I got tired of having to import.

    • @KateSilviaPhotography
      @KateSilviaPhotography หลายเดือนก่อน

      My telephoto only goes to 6.3 at 600mm which is why my ISO tend to swing higher early morning. I just keep an eye on my shutter speed and try to keep it reasonable. But even then, the software does such a great job that I’m just not paranoid about it anymore. And yes, that’s one of my biggest issues with LR and its new capabilities…no plugin support. I’ve stuck with my current workflow, LRC to plugins or Photoshop, then back to LRC. Took some routines and discipline to make sure I don’t mess up the catalog. But it is a bit of a headache.

      @@TC_Conner Workflow is definitely a personal thing. I tell my students that when it comes to image organization and workflow, they really have to follow how their brain works. Do they remember things chronologically, or are they subject or location based. I can't remember dates to save my life but I remember where I was when I took a particular photo...so that's how I organize my images. And I keyword like crazy now which is helpful. Finding old stuff when I didn't keyword is annoying. My workflow with Adobe has evolved over the last 20 years but is essentially the same overall. This helps me perform tasks more easily and quickly. But I try not to impose my workflow on others...even as a teacher...because it has to make sense to them, their software choices, their organizational flow...etc...

      @@KateSilviaPhotography I started my photography journey somewhere around 2006 or 07, it was also around then that I started using Lightroom Classic Version 4 I think it was. It was before Adobe startee their Photography Subscription plan, which I've been enrolled in since it started. It wasn't until recently (June of last year to be exact) that my workflow started to change; I began learning color theory from Blake Rudis and after taking Matt Kloskowski's course on switching from LrC to Lr desktop. Adobe implemented changes to Liightroom making it a breeze to finally get to your photos without having to import. I really don't miss the cataloging feature as I've learned to do that on my own using folders, as I mentioned earlier. I've never used keywords in my workflow, but can see their benefit. Do you use any other editing software such as Luminar Neo and/or ON1 Photo RAW? I have both programs and used to use them often, but rarely see the need since my workflow change. I should mention that the change I'm seeing in my overall photography journey has been jump started since joining Blake Rudis's f64elite commumity and especially and most recently his The Color Course for photographers. Are you familiar with Blake and/or Matt K?

      @KateSilviaPhotography หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very familiar with Blake and Matt. Wonderful instructors! I have Luminar NEO and have experimented with On1. Excellent software. As an instructor, the vast majority of my students are in the Adobe ecosystem so I stick with that primarily. I do suggest Luminar to people just starting their photo journey because it’s so easy to use and can still grow with you as you learn. On1 is like LR and PS in one program. I just don’t have time to become proficient at all of them so I spend all my time with Adobe. 😊

    I have both Topaz and Lightroom. LR does a good job with denoise, but it is very, very slow on my computer. I'm not running a high end gaming computer, but it's not a bottom of the line bare bones either. Topaz seems somewhat slow when doing a lot of files with it, but it is way quicker than LR denoise. As a bonus, the sharpening it does at the same time can often make the difference between a round file image, and a keeper. Thanks for your excellent comparison. I haven't thought about intentionally shooting some extreme ISO examples to try out, but it's great to see what the programs can really do when the chips are down and you are forced to use extreme settings. I opened up this video as I struggle with PS. When the images of the GBH in the nest came up, I immediately recognized the location. Looked at a couple images I took last week, and yes, that is nest in the small cypress I am quite familiar with. What a great place to shoot wildlife. Thanks for the tips, I find that Lightroom does a good job with most of the simple removal, but I sometimes have to resort to PS to get the job done. Having a clear step by step tutorial really helps.

      Isn’t it just one of the best places for consistent bird nests in the spring! Glad the tutorial helped. That’s exactly what I use Photoshop for….anything that Lightroom can’t get done. ☺️

      @@KateSilviaPhotography At this location, I shot a potentially great (for me) shot of a flock of geese with a large moon behind them. I heard the geese coming over the rice fields and prefocused on the moon. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the camera to refocus on the geese in time, and they were all very blurry. I managed to use a shot of the moon by itself after the geese had passed, with a shot of them when I panned after they went by. I used PS to combine the two and get a dramatic image that I had in mind when I set things up on the fly. That is something I couldn't do in LR, and would have been difficult to get both the moon and geese sharp in camera. Still, for normal, quick and easy editing, LR can't be beat.

      I think I was there that day. Didn’t you show that image to me and someone else about a week ago? In the back of your camera? That was an insane opportunity! Glad you were able to combine the two and get the image you envisioned. ☺️

      @@KateSilviaPhotographyIt was last Friday, Mar 29th. I remember talking with two ladies right afterwards, and showing one of the images to them. One of them asked me how I liked the gimbal head I had mounted on my tripod. Of course, this time of year there are a lot of photographers out and about at the swamp. I love taking pictures of the birds, but I'm really looking forward to getting some macro shots once the insect activity increases. I'm hoping the wildflower field at Cypress Gardens is as good this year as last for that. I got some really nice shots there last fall with my new 105 micro.

    If you make a print, does it show where it was worked on?

    • @KateSilviaPhotography
      @KateSilviaPhotography 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Only if it wasn’t done well. The AI methods leave it more to chance. Sometimes it’s amazing…sometimes it’s not so great. The Cloning method is more controlled but more difficult. Before making a print, zoom in to 200% to an area that you think is questionable and make your decision from there. If you have to remove a really large area with the AI fill, it will look pixelated compared to the rest of the image if the dimensions are large (4000pixels or more)…and that would show up in print. Hope this helps and thanks for watching. 😊

      Thank you so much and welcome! Lightroom is an amazing program for importing, keywording, organizing, and tons of Raw processing. Most of your image editing can be done in Lightroom. Photoshop is meant to work directly with Lightroom. Photoshop can also be used for all your basic image editing and raw processing (done in Camera Raw). But it is also where you take your images to the next level. It’s where you would manually combine elements from different images, like blending properly exposed skies with properly exposed foregrounds, do advanced luminosity masking, have access to AI for helping you with your editing work, and so much more. Don’t try to learn them both at the same time. It’s too much. Lightroom Classic is different than Lightroom. I have a video on the differences between those two programs to help people decide which one is right for them. Most beginners will be happier with regular Lightroom instead of Lightroom Classic because Classic is a catalog system and you can easily get your files completely screwed up if you’re not very organized from the very beginning. It’s a lot. Don’t give up when it gets frustrating…which it will, and just enjoy nature photography!

      @@KateSilviaPhotographyGiven the abundance of AI-generated fake images circulating today, it is crucial that viewers are able to differentiate between genuine and manipulated content. As a nature photographer, one would assume that verifying the authenticity of your work holds significant importance.

    • @KateSilviaPhotography
      @KateSilviaPhotography 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally agree that being authentic is important. Did I, at any time, instruct people to fake it in contests or submissions or stock agencies? Did I tell them to fake it all and try to pass it off as “straight out of camera” and tell people to lie? No. I’m teaching people how to use a tool in Photoshop to make their images a little bit nicer for THEM…for their own personal enjoyment. How is that unethical? Do you comment like this on ALL people who teach Photoshop? If not, quit bugging me and relax.

    Doesn’t the remove tool give you a decreased quality than the rest of the image?

      add some noise and sharpen and its usually fine for smaller areas.

    • @KateSilviaPhotography
      @KateSilviaPhotography 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The generative fill replaces pixels at 1024 image size…which is small. If you do it in a small area, it’s not really noticeable. If you extend the canvas by 25% on a high quality image that’s say….6000 pixels wide, then yes, it makes a big difference and you can tell it was manipulated. And adding noise and sharpening as unaxe suggested can help too. ☺️

I rarely have access to the internet outside so having to stay connected is not an option, and most of all the Classics ability to categorize and sort files is Mandatory in my business.

    Also missing from Lightroom (Desktop) is the ability to display the large .psb files. For example, I send an image to Photoshop. I work nondestructive and keep all the steps. I end up with a file too large to save in either a .psb or a .tiff file. So Photoshop save the large file as a .psb file. Works great in Lightroom Classic. Not working in Lightroom (Desktop). With that said, I am transitioning to Lightroom (Desktop). I love not having to worry about the Catalog file becoming corrupt; which has happened more than once on my computer.
