    I already updated yesterday. Fantastic update. And Capture One makes masks quite accurately and cleanly. And it turns out you can make styles with AI masks, and then apply batch corrections with AI masking. Wow!

      You are certainly fast! A lot of people will be switching to Capture One I believe. Good for them, yes the batch processing with AI masking is really useful. I don't LR has the same technology. Good for them, they waited til they came out with a polished feature. Really curious if others can emmulate AI object masking and catch up. I hope so.🙂

      Styles with AI masks! My gosh! It's almost exactly like the adaptive presets they've had in LR for nearly two years. Only ... not as accurate or flexible and near-useless for landscape photography. Other than that - great!

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Have to try these styles/adaptive presets myself to see why one is better than the other!

      Since the masks in 95% of my attempts, I think this masking is on par with what Topaz could offer 20 years ago! This is at the moment a joke, but will probably (hopefully) be usable in the future.
      I have never deleted a software that fast from my computer. Honestly, can you tell me one single program that make worse masks? Try to select a person and try to add a graduated filter on top of that. LOL

    Awesome, rigorous, and very illustrative video. I agree with you, implementation in CO is more friendly than in LR. Thanks a lot for this content.

    For me, one thing I miss in C1 update is "intersecting masks". About the method used by each, I like C1 a little bit more.

    Can it automatically select people, and their features? Faces, cloths, body parts? I have been using C1 since 2017 and love the speed of the interface vs. LR. But, I just went back to LR a few weeks ago and am BLOWN away at the AI in LR (and the new PS). For me (which is a wedding, and portrait photographer) it's a far better match for that type of work. But,, I am glad to see C1 is at least offering something in the AI (even though it looks faily basic).

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it can automatically select the subject, but it doesn't have the one click select of hair, teeth of etc of lightroom...You can manually select it though by dragging a rectangle over the hair, face, teeth etc as shown in the video

    Great comparison😀I much prefere Capture one Ai mask over Lightroom. More simple and easy to use. And Capture one has refine tools make it for me the the best option to choose Capture one

      Yes I agree. I guess they did the right thing and thought through how lightroom's methodology could be improved. I always thought that there were too many steps but then again they pioneered this technology.🙂

    As a real estate photographer, I would love to see the masking feature used for masking windows in a room, allowing a window pull to be achieved, I currently use Lightroom to do this and it’s hit and miss on many windows usually includes the window frame which involves an extra step painting the frame out, in the video with the boat I was impressed with how you removed the windows, could the same technique be used in reverse, probably by inverting the mask?

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, in Capture One masking can be done on its own layer which you can invert. The recommendation from capture one is to zoom in really close to be able to mask small details like perhaps the window frame.

      I did download the 30 day trial and checked it out on a dozen real estate photos, unfortunately I found the masking quite sporadic and not as accurate as I was hoping for, both in distance and close up view, hopefully this will get better in time, but for now I’ll be keeping with LR & PS

      Update: since being a little disappointed with my first attempt at using the new masking tool, I have been trying different techniques and feel that I have found the perfect solution, rather then using HDR images processed through LR, I decided to process my images through Aurora and found that C1 works brilliantly for masking the windows in a room with very few spill over onto the window frame, I am so excited to learn all about Capture One and move forward away from LR & PS

    I’d be curious how well this works on files from the Leica monochrom cameras

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Capture One explicitly says they work with Leica files on their website. I'll be surprised if there's an issue.

    • @ADrowning
      @ADrowning 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean in the sense of how well selections would work if the files are only in black and white. I'm kinda thinking without color it may be less accurate.

    ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024 has AI object selection. Ditto Luminar Neo. Also no intersections for masks? I mean, I'm glad Capture One have finally added some AI masks, but it's a pretty basic implementation.

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi ACDSee has AI object selection in their layers editor not in the RAW editor yet (Develop module). As for luminar neo, they do a limited set foliage, sky, people but as far as I'm aware you can't select over an unknown object and have luminar detect it as an object. I haven't used luminar neo lately but let me know if I'm misinformed.

    • @noobdaddyraces
      @noobdaddyraces 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Acdsee added the AI selection in their latest version. but doesn't ON1 do AI object selection better than all of these?

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ON1 has an excellent quick mask AI but I don't believe the masking is not as accurate nor is their UI as polished as Capture One's. That being said its still very good. Their Brilliance AI also does its own object masking of skies, foliage, people etc...also pretty good.

      @AndyHutchinsons 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@takebetterphotos8132 best in class object selection is Lightroom Classic - by a mile. I've been testing C1's extensively and it's very hit and mess with fringe bleeds into colours and weird bleeds where there is very strong edge definition. I can drag the LR object brush around a pale cloud and LR will nail it.

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback. Won't be surprised if you stress test object masking that lightroom would come out on top. From my own photos though didn't really see anything that was a glaring issue for C1 that I needed LR to solve it.

  • @Eigil_Skovgaard

    At 7:31 you seem to be selecting the lower lip, which results in a masking of the entire face. This detail is taken care of in LR. But with the masking system in e.g. the free raw editor Darktable, this is not a problem at all without AI. Just takes a bit longer (maybe), which in that case could cause a terrible waste of time for the AI disciples with their tailored smart-flows.

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh for that was the preview kicking in. When you move the mouse over an object, it will highlight a preview of the object detected. In that case I must have moved the mose over the face. You still have to click it to confirm it as a selection. Alternatively, you can drag a rectangle over the object to make the selection. The behavior is similar to ON1's super select AI 🙂 Lightroom doesn't give any previews so wont have this behavior.

    • @Eigil_Skovgaard
      @Eigil_Skovgaard 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@takebetterphotos8132 No, I am aware of the selection via a rectangle with C1, I just missed that it was the preview. But what would happen when you - as far as I could see - drew a rectangle around the lower lip and entered it. Will it select the lower lip or both lips?

    I purchased the update and instantly regretted it. I had over 80 headshots that a customer requested the solid gray backgrounds knocked out to white. I purchased the upgrade specifically because of the new masking features and it failed on at least 75% of the images. It selected skin tones, patterns in fabric, etc. Almost every single mask had to be manually adjusted... and THEY WERE SOLID GREY BACKGROUNDS. This functionality is limited and in my personal experience, worthless. I could've done the masking quicker in v.22 with the selection tool. Add to the poor performance the fact that Capture One is now obsessed with selling subscriptions, I see a switch back to lightroom in my future. I won't even go into the complete lack of pricing transparency for customers looking to upgrade.
