    Is there any real benefit to running the cylinder 4 cooling mod once you have EL headers? From my understanding EL remedies all the short comings of the UEL which is what the cylinder 4 cooling mod was designed to fix. Just curious on your thoughts?

      I still think it’s necessary to elevate any potential issues. I ran both and had no issues.

      @@Autofreakgarage thank you for the insight! I’ve always loved your philosophy when it comes to modifying cars. You Sti build was inspiration to me. I plan to start modifying soon, just doing some due diligence before hand looking over your content. I’ll more than likely end up running both.

      Maintenance history, if any mods are present, and if possible, a leak down test.

    I was thinking of switching from 5W-30 to 5W-40 for my STI. Would that be a better choice to go with?

    Love the titanium parts in the engine bay.... how can we get those?
    Still not a fan of the equal length headers. Still sounds like a civic.

      I'm with you, the sound of ULH is too amazing and signature to the STI. Price we pay for less reliability hehe.

      @@Martin944turbo yea, if I’m not driving it like a madman or abusing it, it should be fine lol I see even full race setups for rally and road tracks still using UEL so it must be useful still 😎

    Oh man I miss filling my car up at a Wawa in the night 😂😂😂( northern Maryland). It sucks that the west coast doesn't have a wawa or Royal farms.😢😢😢

    Thank you for this video. I live in South Florida and recently purchased the cylinder #4 cooling kit you mentioned. I am having trouble finding anyone in my area to install it, sadly. Looking forward to making some of the mods you suggested.

    I recently switched from a process west tmic to a fmic and I couldn’t believe the difference in how low the intake temps are. My upgraded tmic would always run about 20-30 degrees above ambient and now it’s usually ambient or a few degrees lower.

      I am curious 🤨. Being able to measure combustion air temperature versus engine block temperature interests me. More precisely being able to monitor heat soak of the intercooler. Is your temperature reference only with respect to engine block temperature?
      The intake manifold has an absolute pressure sensor measuring intake air pressure to define proper air and fuel quantities required for the ignition cylinders. The intake mass air flow sensor is responsible for calculating the total amount of air entering the engine. No targeted combustion air temperature measuring capability pre-cylinder.
      So Outlier117 if your temperature reference is not to engine block temperature what setup are you using to measure intercooler discharge temperature 🤒/ intake manifold inlet temperature 🤒? I ask as I have a Grimmspeed TMIC for my 2015 WRX. It has a bung for methanol injection. I was thinking that could be used for a temperature 🤒 sensor such as a thermocouple connected to a smart thermostat. A smart thermostat does not need the ECU.
      I look forward to a reply from you or anyone else. Cheers.

      @@WRXMAN-ms2mm I am currently running a speed density setup for a rotated turbo kit. The intake air sensor is in the FMIC piping right before it goes into the throttle body.

      I have a 2020 FBO with the same Thermal Coated GRIMMSPEED TMIC as him but with splitter. I never see my temps above 10 degrees ambient while driving and I don’t have headers

    I heard a guys built STI with EL headers and honestly it sounds like a raging trombone so I’ll sacrifice some gains and reliability for my Tomei UEL headers lol

    Would the regular cobb sf intake drop the intake temps too? Just asking bc they dont make the redline for my 2012 sti

    • @Autofreakgarage
      @Autofreakgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ran the sf prior to the redline and I didn’t see much of an IAT drop.

    I live in northern Cali and I run with an oil cooler, no tune required (Fa20). My oil temps used to run 230 degrees in the heat of summer and and now my car has a hard time breaking 200 degrees. It does take lol longer to warm up and yes it’s on a thermostat.

    Would running 5W40 on a stock STi be an issue? Not that I would unless it was genuinely beneficial, I'm just curious. I also have yet to put a single mod on the car other than the exhaust but I love when you post informational stuff like this! I've watched pretty much anything and everything related to the 'do it right' list you've compiled for the EJ motor haha

    • @Autofreakgarage
      @Autofreakgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I’m glad you are finding them helpful.
      If you are stock and worried about warranty, stay with the 5w30. I’d only bump up to 40 if you are tuned and running a bit more power.

    • @345mrawsomeness

      5w40 is preferred over 5w30 and you wouldnt have any warrenty related issues running it.

    Interesting list applicable across EJ an FA platforms. 👍 Worthy of note from Mishimotive in 2015
    “TECHNICAL ARTICLES
    DROP INTAKE TEMPERATURES. DROP TRACK TIMES. DROP JAWS. THE ULTIMATE GUIDE FOR INTERCOOLER SELECTION
    April 22, 2015 MISHIMOTIVE AUTOMOTIVE
    ...C. Front-Mount (FMIC)
    …The intercooler in this system sits in the front bumper opening where it can achieve optimal airflow through the core. This cooler will impede airflow to the radiator behind it, which then causes a restriction in airflow through that heat exchanger. This setup could adversely affect coolant temperatures. It is not usually a big issue but is certainly something to keep in mind.”
    Thought this is on point and also seems intuitively correct. So pairing an oil cooler seems very appropriate with a FMIC. It would help mitigate reduced engine radiator cooling. Especially one in the front fender behind the right fog light bezel that will not block the radiator. HKS makes one.
