Stacey you're so universally relatable to any generation of ExJW, i often forget that you predate me a few years. I'm too young for the 8 day conventions, my parents experienced those. But i do remember cooking for days straight at Yankee Stadium in 98 degree, 105 hummidity weather as a boy. Huge baseball fan, just waiting for the Yankees and Red Sox to take the field as a reward after I was done sitting through all the boring talking. And nothing to show for it but a spanking when i, the 5 year old, inevitably fell asleep during this nonsense 😫. It's that weird trauma bonding that keeps me coming back, thanks for making my morning as always buddy!

My man!!!! So good to see you, thanks my friend! Those traumas are real! I'm a big Ram's fan, so going to the SoCal assemblies was all about getting a look at the field. I forgot to mention Pasadena. But in San Francisco, they had all the concert photos on the walls of all my favorite bands.....so during lunch, it was all about checking out Van Halen! LOL! I fell asleep constantly.....I had a lifetime of Lifesavers in my bag to keep me awake..... then we graduated to binoculars to look at other people around the stadium. Insane memories..... the sunburns in California were REAL!

I used to love the conventions. We were a low-income family growing up, so it was our only "vacation" we would take. Travel, hotels, pools, restaurants, the Drama. And yes, although I had NO game, it was my one chance per year to try and find a cute sister to date outside of my tiny town. Although I am 100% POMO, I still look nostalgically at those times.

57 years ago I graduated from high school, a “good witness” raised a family in the “truth”, towed the company line, regular service , a bunch of “quick builds”, made it to be an M S , but was deleated because I didn’t keep up to the national average. Woke up at the beginning of the pandemic, now my two kids have disowned me (pointing at me and declaring that I’m an apostate). So I did I end up? I’m living on what Uncle Sam gives me as an allowance. No family, a few worldly friends and nothing to look forward to. But at least I’m free of that HATEFUL CULT! Your talk brought back a lot of memories , to be fair some good and some bad. Thanks Stacy!,,,

You know, while I understand family IS everything. My family doesn't bother with me. Noe, we're not JW but my dad did & younger brother, study with them in the door to door sales they do. I have no one but handful of people , the gov pennies, yet not the fake . Sometimes with change comes a reality of change people, places, & things just like breaking a bad habit. I did,'nt have kiddos , had been a bonus mom , but they're off busy. You can have friends here in people who can relate, not know, but similar endings AND beginnings too !! I wish you the best !! "Is he kind to his mother and does he help her around the house?"
Well, at 30 years-old he shouldn't still be living at home, but since he followed Watchtower's counsel to not get an education and just be a content coal shoveler, and he can't afford to move out or get married, it is what it is.
Bell's comment is truly hilarious, coming from a Bethel baby who has other people (not his mother) do his laundry and cook for him, all on the dime of JWs who actually work for a living.

Spent many years putting data bases together for ppl who had abilities to build Assembly Halls. My dad was cong overseer, city overseer, and assembly overseer so I was raised in the thick of it...... walked away 48 yrs ago...... The video offers several critical insights and lessons learned from observing the 2024 Jehovah's Witness Convention, particularly regarding the organization's stance on education, careers, and social expectations:
    1. **Skepticism Toward Secular Education and Careers:**
    - The convention discourages higher education and career pursuits outside the organization, labeling them as potentially harmful or "toxic." This reflects a broader organizational emphasis on prioritizing religious duties over personal or professional development.
    2. **Encouragement of Full-Time Service:**
    - Jehovah's Witnesses are encouraged to dedicate themselves to full-time ministry work, such as pioneering or other organizational roles, as the "best life ever" before Armageddon. This is presented as more fulfilling and meaningful compared to secular careers.
    3. **Emphasis on Obedience and Conformity:**
    - The talks and presentations stress the importance of obedience to the governing body's guidance, suggesting that questioning or deviating from these instructions is viewed negatively. This includes adhering to organizational standards in areas like education, career choices, and personal behavior.
    4. **Traditional Gender Roles and Dating Guidance:**
    - The video critiques the advice given to young women regarding dating and marriage, emphasizing the need for choosing partners who align with the organization's values and who are actively engaged in ministry work. This advice also includes assessing potential mates based on their relationship with their parents and their commitment to the faith.
    5. **Critique of Content and Quality of Convention Presentations:**
    - The host critiques the perceived decline in the quality of the convention's presentations, including the use of overly simplistic or outdated messaging and a lack of engaging content. This reflects a broader dissatisfaction with the organization's approach to modern issues and education.
    6. **Impact on Personal Development and Well-being:**
    - The video discusses the long-term impact on individuals who follow these teachings, including potential missed opportunities for personal growth, financial stability, and educational advancement. It suggests that the organization's stance can lead to a restricted life experience, limited by a narrow set of beliefs and expectations.
Overall, the lessons learned from the video revolve around the potential consequences of following strict religious guidelines at the expense of personal and professional development, as well as the importance of critical thinking and questioning established doctrines.

You must’ve been there at dodger Stadium when I was there too and yes, I remember the heart with the lights on it, and when it was speaking to it’s brain, the red lights all over the heart would light up on the heart to the rhythm of the words. And yes, I remember the live orchestra. By the way, I used to go over to the brother that conducted the orchestras house to go swimming at their fancy Hollywood home, even met brother Nathan Knorr, which was a big deal to me at the time. I’ve met and had discussions in the past with some Governing Body members way back when, not that that’s a big deal because I certainly was disappointed with those experiences. The governing body were nothing like I imagine them to be spiritually.😞 They were businesslike, distant and shallow, too busy and important to be bothered with witness peasants even when they had some rare spare time on their hands. Their videos are like terribly retarded acting and boring to tears infomercials.

Oh, yeah, went to all those convention sites. My earliest memories are of Dodger stadium. As a kid I loved it, but dear god, those 8 days in the blistering sun 🌞 & polution so heavy you couldnt see the mountains right there, were grueling. I still feel bad for the elderly ones. Someone always fell down the steep stairs, which was just gut wrenching! But no wearing sensible shoes!
The life advice given to young ones was disasterous to us all & we pay the price for following it for the rest of our lives.
The dating advice is appalling! We are all paying that price too. I know of several marriages of very young teenage girls to men 30 yrs older than themselves! I know of another 30 yr spread where the woman refused a high up guy, so he retaliated by accusing her of being a lesbian to try & ruin her reputation! She was a lifelong regular pioneer, who started right out of high school & is still going as she enters her 70's! Do you think she ever lived that accusation down in that hot bed gossip mill?
Its heartbreaking 💔 to hear that you I get messages about being apologetic to women & children! I get it tho. As a person with 4 brothers, & knowing the disasterous advice given to the guys, they were practically doomed to have a warped view. Sickening, the damage caused. The older I get, the more protective of animals, kids, women & the elderly, I become. You mentioned saving actual lives. I have a strange tallent for saving old men! Well, it was my privilege. My "kingdom message" never benefited anyone. And it became the very reason I had to leave. How could I recommend the org to anyone? They ruined their name!
My last convention experiences were mind blowing, as I sat there looking around & saying, "did you HEAR what he just said?!!!" 🙄😒
Honestly, cant thank you enough, Surviving! You are a dear. 🦌💙

Just finished this, and it was depressing BUT TRUE THAT THEY ARE a DDC, and I have tried to tell my mom how it affected me badly, growing up from birth in it, and she gaslights me, saying it’s “just me” or “rare” anyone is stressing out over the awful imagery inside, and the doomsday propaganda, so it REALLY HELPS MY PSYCHE HEARING THAT EVEN ELDERS WHO DEFINITELY ARE NOT WHIMPS COULD STILL HAVE FELT THOSE FEAR RESPONSES, and mentioning how INAPPROPRIATE IT IS FOR CHILDREN TO BE SUBJECTED TO IT.
Let me ask you a question though okay, Stacey? Knowing about that November 2013 “obey even if doesn’t make sense” constant rhetoric, do you think they made them watch the “Josiah drama” to make the rank and file DO anything (immoral or wrong?) They have fed us all constant “Destruction of wicked family and neighbor dramas” for literally YEARS! All the dramas I went through since 1960s-2017 or 2018 were about that “Destruction, but not just from God, but men helping! We have the “Children enemies of God” comment, and shunning daughter, son and a mother…next a father? Or will they leave that out? Anyway, the last Meeting I think I went to was a Watchtower Study when they advised women in PHYSICALLY Domestic Abusive Marriages to STAY IN THEM, when i had read an Awake Article (for the “worldly people” I guess) they described how the violence will ONLY ESCALATE so you need to SERIOUSLY CONSIDER LEAVING (I think it told everyone non JW, but us who they are “Shepherding” oh no, you sisters…YOU GOTTA STAY IN IT, or you brothers with “Alpha Females doing DA, YOU GOTTA STAY TOO!!” Anyway, so many regrets from listening to those leaders…They appeal to your self esteem to make you only have enough self esteem to buy into their propaganda and be trapped! Maybe the Movie you might want to watch is ENTRAPMENT or some title like that. By that woman that years back was in a movie about California leaving Mexico with Antonio Banderas. She has black long hair…I forget her name…Sorry, lol.

Hello there Stacy, dunno if you’ve come across the below post. Check it out and see another classical example of how this organization contradicts itself….
    Really striking illustration!!!!
Will Jehovah recognize you? (an illustration in a talk at an assembly)
There was a farmer who raised sheep and had trouble with wolves stealing his sheep. He loved his sheep and didn't want to lose even one of them.
    One day the wolves
came and the farmer quickly raised his rifle and POW! - killed every wolf he shot at. As he turned his rifle toward a shadow he saw a puppy wolf huddling besides a fence post shivering.
The farmer felt sorry for him, picked him up, tucked him inside his coat and took him home.
As time passed, the farmer grew to love the puppy wolf and took him everyday to help him tend his sheep. The sheep loved the puppy wolf too and thought of him as one of them. The puppy wolf learned to call the sheep by their names, just like the farmer did. It wasn't long before he grew to full size and the farmer trusted him to care for his sheep while he rode to town to buy supplies.
Then one day the puppy wolf was running in the farmer's field and heard howling in the woods. He ran to the edge of the fence and watched as a pack of wolves approached. They seemed happy to see him although he didn't recognize them. One by one they told him of all the fun they were having, running anywhere they wanted, doing whatever they pleased...no one telling them what to do! They invited him to come on the other side of the fence with them. The puppy wolf thought about the fence, and how he'd never been on the other side of it.
The more he listened he began to wonder if he was missing out on something. It only took another minute and he dug under the fence and left with the pack.
For three seasons he lived with the wolves. They had plenty to eat and did whatever they wanted. It was such fun and he was glad for the choice he made. But winter came and everyone became hungry and restless. It was cold, so cold, where they had to sleep. The puppy wolf began to think about the farmer and how he'd never slept cold and never felt hunger. Soon he heard the leader of the pack announce it was time to steal some of the farmer's sheep, so they could survive the winter.
The puppy wolf loudly exclaimed, "NO, they are my friends, don't hurt them". But the leader said, "You're one of us now, do as you're told!" They all began to run fast toward the farmer's property. The puppy wolf reluctantly followed. Soon they arrived and began to dig under the farmer's fence. The farmer heard his sheep cry out so he grabbed his rifle and ran to shoot at the wolves. BANG! He killed one after another and soon was face to face with a wolf backed up against the fence post who cried out, "Wait, don't shoot me. I'm the puppy you raised. I'm your friend. Don't you remember me?"
But the farmer looked at the wolf and saw how matted his coat was and how he smelled like the rest of the pack.He said to the wolf, "I don't know you." He raised his rifle and shot....BANG!!! The wolf was dead!
After the illustration there was silence😳🤐 in the auditorium, and then the speaker said, "Brothers, when Armageddon comes and Jesus is doing his destruction work, will he recognize you"?
    My dear,
We can't go out - play around in the world - and then take Jehovah's forgiveness and patience for granted as if treating it casually.
Always think about this "where do I stand in Jehovah's eyes?"🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Im in my 50s too, and remember all those things you described at the beginning of your podcast, the dramas were the absolute highlight of an assembly for a young child. The rest was just a total snooze fest. It just makes me sick to my stomach how they tell our young people not to be educated, when they spend thousands on sending their legal team, or anyone else they need to college or uni to get educated for their benefit. This should be a total red flag to witnesses why it's ok for them, but not for the rank and file Jws. It's just hypocrisy at its best. How are they going to persuade Moses or Elijah in their new paradise? These men saw Jehovah (and talked to Him) themselves? Good luck converting these people in paradise. Saint Peter will never convert. He got crucified upside down for Jesus. Speaking of Peter, why is is that no JW ever talk about Peter being crucified upside down on a stauros (and not a cross). After seven and after eight comes nine . The Bible , in Revelation 17:11 , mentions an eighth king . If five kings have fallen and Rome was the sixth king , then only the seventh(7) and the eighth(8) remain , and after eight comes the final single digit(9) , Revelation 17:14 . Say 78 x 9 = 702 + 87 = 789 . Fallowing the same pattern , say 45 x 6 = 270 + 51 = 321 , and 12 x 3 = 36 + 15 = 51 . Added together 789 + 321 + 51 = 1161 , birth of Baldwin IV , King of Jerusalem , the leper king . Now in reverse , say 98 x 7 = 686 + 105 = 791 , and 65 x 4 = 260 + 69 = 329 , and 32 x 1 = 32 + 33 = 65 . Added together 791 + 329 + 65 = 1185 , death of Baldwin IV , King of Jerusalem , the leper king . Isaiah 66:2 . 1185 + 1335 days(Daniel 12:12 ; 12+12=24 + 1161 = 1185 ) = 2520 days ( Seven Times ; 7 x 360 ; Daniel 4:16 ) . 607 B.C.E. minus 1B.C.E. = 606 minus 2520(Seven Times)= 1914 .
