The Governing Body's "Inspired" Authority: We Speak for God... Sometimes

  • The Governing Body demands strict obedience from eight million plus Jehovah's Witnesses today. Their self proclaimed authority spans almost two centuries, with bold reminders that they are 'god's mouthpiece' and that they alone receive instructions directly from Jesus Christ. With a long history of changing doctrines, mistakes and ever changing policies... they then say, in print, that "Jesus never said we would be perfect..." We have some questions: Are they inspired? Infallible? Should we obey them?

    When I found out about the "Governing Body is neither inspired or infallible" -bit that made me ANGRY. I try my best to give the benefit of the doubt to the individuals in the organization, all the way to the top, and believe (until evidence is provided to the contrary) that they are not evil, or knowingly deceiving people, but that bit.... Ohhh, that makes it DIFFICULT to do. If you admit that you are neither inspired or infallible, then WHAT are you doing, giving orders and demanding absolute obedience?!
    The comparison to Jonestown is chilling, and not the first time it's been brought up concerning the infamous "follow the direction no matter how illogical it sounds from a human standpoint" -quote. If memory serves, they doubled down on that in a later issue, too, didn't they? It's crazy to think how we used to just sit at the Kingdom Hall and nod along to everything and anything said from the stage.

      Exactly Elecyah! When you demand life or death obedience but claim to make mistakes along the way....you're a cult. We were all indoctrinated into the evil. They know what they're doing in my opinion!

      I am not going to judge the GB or they being anointed, that is between the individual members and Jehovah. However, I question why ALL of the GB members are white with 1 African American who as anyone can clearly discern, has a white ancestor. Aren't there any chocolate brothers who are anointed that SHOULD be part of that group? Since Jesus is the exact representation of his father's being, what has happened to what Peter said that God is not PARTIAL, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him? Are chocolate men acceptable to Jesus? If so why not 1 of them sits on the GB? Not judging, just wondering.

    I left the Watchtower organization in 1992, but just so happened to be in the Kingdom Hall at the Watchtower Study when that February 15, 2017 was being studied. I could not believe my eyes when I saw that statement “The Governing Body is neither inspired nor infallible...”. I wanted to raise my hand and say “that means what they say is not from God but is their own opinion. And it might be right, or it might not. So why do we have to listen to them?” I doubt they would have called on me after 25 years of not being there.. lol

      The Governing Body is neither inspired nor infallible and is a true statement. By the power of God's spirit is what leads the shepherds of the JW organization. The GB members are shepherds with a specific job of feeding the sheep at the proper time with God's spirit. They are not Apostles, nor can they perform miracles. They are no different than other JW members except they have a different hope. The GB never speaks of their own opinion, nor do they make rules.

    “The record of history, which some religions would like to be forgotten, helps us to identify not only those whom Jesus called
    "false prophets" but also those who have produced "fine fruit."

    Well, your comments are perplexing because the governing body never have taught that they were inspired, only that they have holy spirit, but are not inspired by it, and I would say that that absolutely makes no sense, because being directed by holy spirit, which they do claim, is, essentially part and parcel of what being inspired by Holy Spirit is basically. It’s like them saying ; “we have the water without the wet”.
    So how can you have the water without the wet? YOU CAN’T.
    Inspiration in the biblical sense is defined as, “God breathed or Divine breath”. So their self proclaimed authority to speak as the “mouthpiece of God or word of God” could be considered slander against the holy spirit itself, could it not? The spirit they show is not the spirit of Christ, and the track record of Godly truths is abysmal.
    The Holy Spirit is not going to direct false truths against its own interest, yet that is exactly what the governing body is doing which brings reproach and a loss of faith and disbelief in God himself. All of this is on the governing body shoulders before Jehovah God. “ Judgment begins with the house of God”.

      @survivingparadisepodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Charles, you're correct on all points. However, you can make a very strong argument for them claiming 'inspiration' or IMPLYING inspiration as well. You simply cannot claim you receive direction directly from the creator and his son, claim it came from them and expect all of humanity to obey it up and through dying for it. An example that arguably conveys that they're 'inspired' in some way: "When the time comes to clarify a spiritual matter in our day, holy spirit helps responsible representatives of the faithful and discreet slave at world headquarters to discern deep truths that were not previously understood." - Watchtower 2010 Jul 15 pp.22-23

So he got so bad the worldy people near him brought him to his Elder father asking what kind of a father turns his back on his own son who is near death? They rushed him to the hospital where the doctors tried to save him but also wanted to use a blood transfusion as a last effort but the son refused and soon died at the age of 25. The doctors told the Elder if he had gotten his son to the hospitals sooner they could have saved him with just antibiotics but he was to malnutritioned for his body to fight the infection. Now many brothers are showing up at the Elder home. It shows shunning is a plague within the Congregations. They Bury him Friday on the Grandfather's plot. Imagine the guilt that Elder has now. Will he ever be able to read about the prodigal son and live with himself? I could not I would rather be dead myself than to do such a thing to my own son. Thus, if GB are to inspire others to have confidence in them, they must speak the truth. (Proverbs 12:19; Ephesians 4:25; Hebrews 13:18) All Christians including the GB must conduct themselves in agreement with Bible principles to deserve the trust others place in them.
