WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

If you start your argument off with "you believe..." you've already failed.
What do you "believe" is a factual basis for your stand of a GODLESS world (atheism)? @Jenny When I was younger, secularism seemed to be progressing, and I was hoping the God botherers would die off and their politics with them. But that dog won't die for some reason, and now regression is en vogue again.

Yea, it's probably because they can't understand the world outside of their own understanding. They believe we follow some kind of "bible" and "preachers" like them, so they think we have some kind of set in stone doctrine they're told we follow.
It's crazy because in one idea they'll claim atheists just want to do whatever the individual wants to do, but also turn around and claim all atheists do what "atheism" tells us to do.

Some idiot got mad and said I’m closed minded because I refused to let him tell me the “theistic definition of atheism” I replied the atheistic definition of theism is fairytale worship.
We already know the basis for the "belief" of the atheist. They have nothing. It's all just God bias. They simply don't want God to exist. But God does exist. That's why no atheist can produce a GODLESS CAUSE for this world.
I deal with theists like this every day on Facebook. They make assumptions about our position and when we correct them, they refuse to admit they were incorrect

I think, it is really impossible for their brain, to compute the fact they are indoctrinated to adopted a biblically position, however if what they see or experiences, have no link with any kind of woo-woo realm, nor they fictionally character living in this fairy tales world.

Not all humans have a conscience, compassion and empathy the most important attributes that set fully fledged decent human beings apart from the rest of the animals.
Humans have evolved not only biologically but are are also evolving consciously, with greater degree of awareness , deeper level of insight, and higher level of intuition( the "wokes")
Sadly a good majority of people are trapped and languishing in the lowest state of human consciousnes, the "fight or flight" or animal consciosness. Since they are devoid of these important attributes they depend on religions to distinguish between right and wrong and guide them in their daily life..People stuck in the this lower state will not be able to understand people in your level of consciousness.
It is very much like an adult who can understand a child , but not vice versa.

I'm Texan who works in the alcohol industry. Hard liquor cannot be sold on Sundays. Beer and wine cannot be sold before 11am on Sundays. Only package stores (stores that only sell alcohol) can sell liquor.
The TABC regulation book is thicker than most Bibles. It is insane the number of little rules they have that can trip you up.
When I lived in Kentucky years ago, the county didn't allow any alcohol of any sort to be sold period. But the neighboring county did so there were big signs advertising right inside that county's border pointed at the dry county.
@@miconis123 I lived in Dallas years ago, but worked right over the city line in Farmers Branch. Farmers Branch was a damp town. (They allowed beer and wine but no hard liquor.) Inwood road practically made the border. (Part of the line actually ran through the warehouse of the company where I worked. They actually had a line marking it so they knew where they could store certain items.) That road has at least 6 liquor stores, one right after the other.

Some of the biggest criticizers of going "woke" are the devoutly religious. Funny, I'd consider myself "woke" and what that primarily means is that I have empathy for my fellow people and want the world to be a better place, with as little suffering as possible.
I wonder what it says about their religion when they actively push back against that. 🤔
“Make the world Better place” is subjective. China believes communist is the way, some believe the world will be better with slavery, others believe destroying modern society would improve the world, etc etc.
And “suffering” can be a matter of opinion.
All in all, without going into specifics, someone can easily push back against this without being a bad person. It really depends on how you act on your beliefs of what a “better world and less suffering” is.

I'm an atheist and on the Left and I hate wokeism. I hate it the way Bill Maher or Ricky Gervais hate it. We're over correcting. There are people going around literally demanding to cancel Abe Lincoln and tear down his statues cause "he wasn't anti slavery enough". There are white and blackberry people that advocate for me and every other white American living today, to pay reparations to all black Americans for the suffering and slavery that they went through. I mean WTF???

We as atheist have never portrayed anything like that but that is your absurd and childish ways of labeling ones opinions without thinking. The fact is and always has been you believers have all the extraordinary claims not us so really the burden of proof is yours and those claims require extraordinary evidence. We live in the real world through science and biology which is testable and repeatable with actual results. It's the best method available to find out about the real world. The sin, sacrifice, resurrection & salvation story implies a superstitious God who values blood-sacrifice, which was common back then - e.g. sacrificing a goat for a new home. The superstitious early folks who valued blood sacrifice created the God of the Bible in their own image.
Always fascinating to me. The god of the old testament is terrible, but the god of the new testament (as described to us by Jesus in particular) is kind and loving. I've always found that odd.
woke = enlightened, or at the very least, informed. That is all "woke" really means *shrug* At least in my mind.

I have never met someone who uses the term woke in a derogatory fashion... that could accurately define what it is.
For a brief time, 'woke' was synonymous with 'social justice warrior'...But now it's just a buzzword to deflect criticism and terminate thought.
Woke as far as I can understand what it is about, is when someone, typically a brand/company, makes an appeal to the masses to do good/to be in the good side while the good in question is nothing of importance and/or there is no issue of that proportion to begin with (As in it doesn't require any effort at all to do this good/agree this thing is good) Basically all talk no action
Happens very often on Twitter. Things like "We at [brand] do not tolerate racism. Racism is bad. We will take action to end racism here at [Brand] to make the place safe"

Hypocrisy of alcohol in Texas: You could buy alcohol at gas stations in Houston, as it was an unzoned city. In Dallas, there were wet and dry areas. The dry areas were the upmarket ones. So the people in dry areas would drive to the edge of their dry area where, on the verge at the side of the road, they would find large trucks full of alcoholic products. They would pick up what they want, and drive home. Going to a restaurant, if they didn't have a liquor licence, you couldn't have a drink, but I recall going to one where people sneaked in their own alcohol and kept it under the table.
Canada used to have an even stranger system: Liquor stores were government-run. There were no commercial outlets. And let's not forget that a century ago the US had Prohibition, which led to an explosion in organised crime; hard to imagine that anyone could bring in prohibition today, and hard to imagine how it was even possible a century ago.
In the UK, originally there were no licencing laws, ie you could buy alcohol anywhere at any time, and what changed it was the industrial revolution, when gin production was mechanised, it became very cheap, and the people were so paralytic with alcohol that they couldn't do their work, so the government brought in restricted hours, hence the well-known expressions "last orders" and "time gentlemen please". Hours in the 20th and 21st centuries have been limited (for groceries and alcohol) by pressure from the Lord's Day Observance Society, despite the fact that most of the population don't go to church at all, or if they do then it is only for hatch, match, and dispatch.
As regards religious freedom: In the UK, church attendance on Sundays was MANDATORY until about the 1830s. Even a century later, schools would check church attendance, and punish kids who failed to attend.

I had to Google what “woke” specifically meant - “‘politically and socially aware’ among BLM activists”. Nothing in there related to atheism. It is obviously anti-racism and anti slavery, which is at odds with the Bible, but then, the Bible disagrees with Jesus, who was anti-bigotry, as demonstrated by his parable of the Good Samaritan.

Indoctrination is the only mechanism that I am aware of that could distort ones belief so far from reality.when people ask me why I can't just leave religions to do their own thing, this is the reason. In any other situation, teaching children and the mentally challenged blatant lies would be considered abuse, but yet we should respect religions. Why? I will respect people, or at least treat them with civility, but I will never respect religion.

The caller - who has made numerous stupid claims over numerous calls - seems to think that all atheists think the same thing and no one who isn't an atheist believes any of the same things. I had a fairly heated discussion with someone fairly recently who hates religion and also hates "wokeness", so the idea that atheists are inherently "woke" is dishonest and just plain stupid.
Jon really _really_ wants atheism to be a belief system because then he'd be able to frame it as just another in the long history of Christianity vs. another religion, instead of Christianity vs. critical thinking and scientific inquiry.
If you're a Theist reading this, before you embarrass yourself please understand the following.
Firstly whilst atheist religions exist (religions that do not revolve around the worship of a central figure of deity) atheism is only the position that someone is not convinced that a supernatural God exists. We are aware that historically some things of natural origin have been worshipped as gods (like the Pharoahs and the planets and stars as examples) but the supernatural claims attached to them remain unproven or outright disproven.
Atheism itself is a single point of debate that doesn't in and of itself attach to a moral or ethical framework, prescribe any dietary restrictions, waste time praying or singing hymns to something with no proven way of hearing you or require you to have a certain dress code. Nor do we have an atheist holy day (maybe we should - just spend an entire day not believing In deities, oh wait I already do that anyway).
In conclusion therefore the only rational conclusion is that atheism is not a religion.
I am an Atheist and I say, show me the doctrine! A religion requires doctrine.
