WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Yes, atheists quit believing in fallacies. It's acceptable for people to move on from falsehoods to lead a more fulfilling life.

Religion provided the drive to kill Jesus and the Romans who executed by crucifixion....Jesus is the ultimate peace prize, for He has “made peace through the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:20). The “Prince of Peace” has reconciled us to God. And being at peace with God is an excellent starting point for being at peace with one another.

This caller is by far the most coherent I’ve heard in a while, and he’s not totally wrong that those actively engaged in an activity may find ways to refine it… But he’s overlooking a couple important points:
1) testing requires falsifiability, which religion is intentionally not.
2) findings conflicting with current beliefs must be accepted. Which religion intentionally avoids.
How about you now STOP the stupidity. Atheism is a "religion" w/ tenets (e.g. big bang, abiogenesis, mistakes (mutations) gaining in complexity/new information, star formation, evolution) of which I debunk w/ ease. After having being baptised as an infant and forced to go to church every Sunday, I became an atheist at 12. I could not "come out" until age 52 years old to my parents. They went nuts. Even though I had not been to church for over 10yrs. They wanted to blame my boyfriend who was an atheist. I told them I knew since I was twelve and their child abuse of me was part of the reason. I also told them I was a Christopher Hichens fan who I discovered at 18 was part of the reason too. The holocaust was part of the reason also. I also met a holocaust survivor at 18. My boyfriend was not a part of my life then.

I am seeing more and more of this from christians when they are debating atheists. I call it the "reverse terms/flip-it-back" method. The christians will take a common argument directed at them from atheists and flip it back to them in the spirit of a "hey, you say we do X--you do it too" response. However, when flipped back to the atheists the argument is invariably and laughably inapplicable.

Even if we granted that atheists are "quitters," there are a lot of things we congratulate people for quitting...drugs, alcohol, tobacco, overeating, gambling, abusive relationships, and others. Likewise, shouldn't we congratulate people for quitting their dependency on tribalistically and groupthink motivated, unsubstantiated fairy tales that justify and even advocate for various atrocities like slavery, child killing, and genocide?
I realized religion was a scam when they wanted you to tithe. I saw that offering plate going around and I thought "I'm not giving away my hard earned money and getting nothing in return. " These idiots actually think they are being guarenteed a place in a place called heaven. What they are doing is making someone else rich.

Churches and temples and so on are performing a service. The people who donate ARE getting something back, such as community and a tool to help them cope with life.
That being said, it's definitely a scam in that they are selling a product that doesn't exist. You are basically going to get what they are selling you AFTER you pass away. In the meanwhile, you have to presuppose that everything that they are telling you is the truth... which they SOMEHOW know, even when NONE of them have actual evidence outside of the book.
Anyone, especially if they are charismatic enough, can create a religion. Look at L Ron Hubbard or Joseph Smith. Not to mention all the other cults that have existed in the past. For example, there's a Jewish cult where someone claimed to be the messiah foretold in the old testament and ended up creating a HUGE religion that fractured into huge number of variations over time.
Hi Jim, I used to know you through the Irish music community in Phoenix! Nice to see you again albeit virtually.
He was pretty tolerable, honestly. Many of the people that call in are so insufferable. Even though I disagree with him, he was kind, didn't try to hijack the call, and had actual dialogue. It was nice.

This comes from the attitude by theists (believers) that you should believe before the evidence is shown.
Too often I hear from Christians instructing me: Well you'll know one day (they usually add it'll be after death).
I reply: Then that's the time to believe, when I have evidence to know its true, and not a second before that.

So, you're waiting to find out that hell is real. That's really taking a big chance. You could get burnt. No pun intended. Jesus Christ is the King of Glory! The only name by which a man can be saved. Call on the Lord Jesus to reveal truth (himself) to you.

THIS was your opportunity to inform me (and my children) the reasoning to believe in your claimed God. Instead you used a threat of me being burnt in Christian Hell for supposed Jesus sins! This is a fallacy by you, its called Pascal's Wager. The fallacy is: You better believe me OR ELSE something might happen to you one day. That's NOT how to reason effectively, unless you provide a reason TODAY.
Basically you have informed me YOUR reasoning is due to fear of Christian Hell, even though there's not a shred of evidence for it?
And to relay Bible claims, I could relay Qur'an claims to you, and say: Don't you realize you are going to Islamic Hell because you were suppose to adhere to the (book of claims, as per the Bible) Islamic Qur'an? That wouldn't make you immediately become a Muslim wouldn't it? Because you don't believe in their non evidence based threat. Now you understand why I don't believe in yours.
We learn these things as children! Not to allow bullies or people who threaten us to control us. Why are you allowing a bully God to threaten you? Tell him you won't believe in him out of fear, tell him you need a reason to warrant the belief.

I believe that it was unconstituional to add that phrase. I don't say the phrase, if I can avoid it. I've had occasion to lead the Pledge and I try to let the audience say it without emphasing that I am not saying it out loud.

My experience has been the opposite: post hoc rationalization of their existing beliefs. If evidence of the supernatural is discovered I absolutely believe it would be through a naturalist exploration of the universe.
The investigations into gods don't change for hundreds of years and the evidence never comes that might suggest additional avenues of investigation. So all you can really do is object to the believers who make yet another insured claim, or just ignore them. That's pretty much atheism in a nutshell and I think it's the most reasonable path.
