    For the record, ALL the 8HP70, 8HP75, 8HP90, and 8HP95s are built by ZF in South Carolina and purchased by FCA (now Stellantis) and always have been. Only the 845RE Torqueflite units (V6s) are built by FCA (Stellantis) internally at the Kokomo (Indiana) Transmission Plant. If there is actually a torque problem with the rear driveshaft flange on the Hemi vehicles, it wouldn't necessarily then be on the lighter-duty units.

I am not convinced my transmission on my 2016 charger scat pack has failed at ~ 40934 miles and it concerns me even further as I also have the 8HP70 model transmission in my 2015 RAM truck at ~ 55100. I was driving about 40 - 50 MPH when I heard an unprompted downshift and then moments later check engine light came on and message “service shifter”. The transmission also seemed to be stuck in a lower gear in D. I scanned the OBD2 and had confirmed permanent codes: U1412; U0402;U0001; P1DD2. On the electronic shifter module: U0402; U0101. On the power control module: U1412; U0402; U11C2. I had the car towed to a dodge dealership and they are recommending that I change the transmission.

      The Torqueflite 8 (also known as the 850RE Torqueflite) is an 8-speed automatic transmission built by Chrysler Group LLC at the Kokomo Transmission Plant and the Kokomo Casting plant, in Kokomo, Indiana.[1] Production began in 2013. Although the 850RE Torqueflite is built-and-designed in the United States, the design is licensed from the German built-and-designed ZF 8HP transmission, made by ZF Friedrichshafen AG, in Saarbrücken, Germany.[2]

    The only way i know this is a true issue is i have a 2003 ram 3500 6 speed manual 4x4 and it has a slip yoke with one of those balancer things on it and the rubber was severely cracked on one side causing same type of vibration and it comes on about 60-65mph then goes away then comes back at just over 70 then goes away again its bad though like it sounds like how a bearing vibarates almost but just shakes the shifter and vibrates the whole truck. I know its a different setup and not the same but that vibration your feeling is certainly from near the output, luckily my transfercase hasnt blew up since the vibration has happened it has loosened the transfercase chain and last time i used 4x4 to back out of sand onto the road it was clicking and chain slipping bad lol now time to rebuild tcase and get a new vibration dampener yoke for the driveline. Hopefully FCA Chrysler watches this! 44ft lb holding all that power sounds low to me trying to put out 700+ horses, hopefully they reevaluate and bump that 44ft lb number up

    This video might have helped me a lot. I have a 2016 ram RT and 5 years ago when I first got it I tuned it and tried to do a top speed run. It ended up throwing the stock driveshaft out of it around 115. Dealership replaced it under warranty and when I got it back it still vibrated bad above 100. I bought a driveshaft shop driveshaft thinking it would fix my issues. Got it put in and it was better but would still vibrate above 115-120ish. I finally got fed up and just held it to see if anything would break. At 136 it vibrated so bad it shook the rear tail shaft bearing out of the transmission and broke the case. Once again dodge replaced the transmission under warranty. I got it back and have been scared to run it that fast ever since. Although I have ran it up to 130 a bunch of times and the vibration is very minimal but it’s out of warranty now so I just try stay under 130. With the new transmission the vibration seems a lot better. I’ll let you know what I find when I get home. I’m curious now

    I have AUDI SQ5 2015 with 155000km.
    The transmission is not smooth... specially when the gear goes down ... and if I'm pushing the gas pedal down to kick down and it goes 2 or more shifts down I'm getting a hard "hit" in the gearbox...like BOOOOMMMM .. sometimes the gear goes immediately back to the upper gear ... for example goes from 6 to 3 when I push down the gas pedal... andddd BOOOMMM it goes to 3 and jump back to 6.
    There is another thing: when I take turn left or right into a street... sometimes the gearbox going like into "neutral" feeling safe mode or somthing...the gear jump for a second and and after one second come back to "NORMAL.

  • @davidleslie949
    @davidleslie949 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There is gonna be a little bit of play at the output shaft of any transmission because of the seal similar to a rear main seal on an engine or a front wheel drive car. When you check for bearing play, there's always gonna be a little bit of play that should never be right snug up against the transmission Itself because then it won't turn very well and then overtime that added pressure from overtightening it will start to the output shaft of the transmission and you don't want that because there has to be a certain amount of play for the rest of the transmission operate properly so you might run it to other problems too but yeah, there's always gonna be a little bit of play between the transmission Casing itself and the transmission output, flange, which then attaches to your driveline obviously. if the correct type of transmission fluid isn't used that can also cause the transmission to grenade because it doesn't have the right amount of friction. Need it for the torque converter to work properly and vice versa if you have too much fiction that can also cause transmission problems from the torque converter, having too much grip or friction, if you will. This is the video I watched of yours about the transmission other than when you drained and refilled the transmission so I'm not sure where or what happened two years ago since this video, but from my knowledge of my experience as a technician for heavy duty, tractor trailers for years, and then automotive before and after that. With the transmission and neutral you were going to get some play and that's when you want to be checking your driveline when there is no load on a flat Service with the parking brake off and the engine neutral and the wheels cocked that's when the proper checks can be made along the driveline, including the transmission output Flange area. There is a specification for the amount of movement no different than again the front wheel drive or front end of a car wheel bearing play there has to be some wheel bearing play. Otherwise the wheel bearings will create too much friction and not allow enough lubrication at higher speeds when the expansion and contraction occurs due to a friction, heating and cooling of the wheel bearings no different than the output shaft of your transmission, or any transmission for that matter once it warms up, it's going to dissipate or less, but there is a specification you can check using a or gauges and whatever procedure outlined by RAMM or the manufacturer of that transmission. Not sure if this helps at all but hopefully you figured out the issue when I turn on TH-cam videos pop up and then I scroll through until I see a familiar face regarding automotive how to repair videos and that's when I noticed I've watched his videos before so I'll watch this one. If you've already figured out the problem my apologies for trying to tell you what to do but I never do that. I make suggestions because I'm like everybody else, still wanting to learn.

    Commercial Production is all about numbers. Well a torque wrench gets used continuously in a factory line and needs to be checked for accuracy Daily. I am almost certain that is where the weak point of the production is.

      @@blakeerdmann I just remembered they did a software update at the same time as the axle recall and it shifted differently after the update. This also might have been the fix to my clunking.

      Heres the axle recall - "The left rear axle shaft on your truck may not have been heat treated properly at the axle shaft bearing journal. An improperly heat treated axle shaft may cause the bearing to create a grinding noise during operation, illuminate the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) warning lamp and eventually an axle shaft fracture. If the axle shaft fractures, wheel separation from the vehicle may occur."

    Checked mine this weekend because I'm having a whipping sound like a tie wrap is on the drive shaft and sure enough it's loose. I have an appointment tomorrow at the dealer to have them check it out. I did notice about a month ago I got a CEL on the highway and the tach raced up to 5k going like 70 and when I pulled over and restarted it went back to normal but the CEL lasted for about a day or so. I'm at 95k (2016 Scat Pack Shaker) miles and luck to have purchased the Mopar MAX extended plan which is a bumper to bumper coverage up to 125k miles. SMDH I don't even race this thing.

    Jon, just saw your video of your good used transmision. If this transmission fails in another track race or pass, my suggestion is go for TH400 transmission. I've got a few friends that race their hellcats with a TH400. They tell those TH400 are more durable & better built for the hellcat power than the weak 8HP90.
