  • Picked up this motor a couple of months ago from another ‘67 Firebird owner. Needs some cleaning up, but not much. Hoping to maybe find some parts to make it an HO. We’ll see.

nice find. Plan on replacing that water pump. she's got some weepage... another clue to its history is its painted the wrong color. Great buy but I would take it apart and go through it. won't cost a lot and you will gain a ton of knowledge by doing that!. Love it

Thank you. The paint was one give away that it was rebuilt. I will definitely paint it the appropriate blue 👍. Thanks for the comment, I will definitely check out that water pump and disassemble it at some point.

Jim, you have done a great move there. Buying that 326 absolutely correct for 1967 Firebird You could have put on some bolts on the rear of the crank and turn it that way also. If I was you, I will get her running right there on that stand. Buy some auxiliary gages and check the Engine compression everything checks out. I can let you know how to freshen up the engine. So you can have some good insurance on thank you For the video, it was great, my friend.

IF the distributor is run like a chevy you might be able to remove it and with a tool run the oil pump for the motor. The benefit is this is that makes disassembly easier as all of the bearings are lubed and will rotate easier.

Makes sense. I will try that. Thanks so much for the comment and tip, I really appreciate it and thanks for watching.👍

I would pull the distributor and use an oil pump priming tool until i saw oil at the rockers, thats been sitting a long time. I'd put a full gasket set in it too, gaskets go bad from age. easier to do it now that later.

I had a 236 deuce in my 69 firebird. It was surprisingly quick but top end was 126 for me.

I’m pretty ignorant on engines and learning as I go, so the 126 top end was good or not so much? Would appreciate information, like I said I’m learning. Thank you for the comment and for watching.✌️

Great deal, Jim. Do a compression test before you disassemble any further- It will give you a good starting point to know what happens next

you can get an 4bbl alum intake from jegs. the 326-455 from 65-79 use the same intake manifold.
id paint it to match the engine.

my friend has a 67 ho car my 68 is a ra3 car that is a great lil motor for a cruiser car i would not mess with it other than maybe find a 4-barrel manifold and carb. 140 is a smaller valve head bit i can't remember if you can or cannot put the big valve heads on a 326. i would run it and see what it sounds like. also, i would run the stock exhaust these days.. header's are just to much trouble for little return.

Thank for the comment. I will definitely try and run it in place to see how it is. I know the ho is a 141 head and I’ll keep looking, but it will go in the car either way. Thanks for the help and for watching 👍

Have to agree with Charlie below, Compression test. Then pull the pan and do a visual Insp.

what engine was orig in the car?

    • @JK_Nex_Garage
      @JK_Nex_Garage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

It was OHC 6 Cylinder. The car did not come with an engine or transmission at purchase.

Only thing I would do is set it up to run on that stand. You should have put some penetrating oil down the spark plug holes just in case the rings were rusted. You may have got lucky turning it over without doing that.i would spray some fogging oil down there just to prevent any rusting . If it's ok I wouldn't tear into it. It looks clean to me ,why make more work for yourself. 😅
Run it like that if you have to do anything it's easy enough to do later on.

@@richardhall5699 I will give that a try when I go to work on this. Hoping to get to it this winter sometime. Thanks for the help. Really appreciate it.👍

Those heads and carb. are what I’m keeping my eyes open for. The ‘67 GTO is my favorite of all the GTO’s. Thanks for watching ✌️
