That far into it I would change the bearing as well. For you guys without a seal installer. 2 PCs of 2x4 One cut at 4 inches and a long one to hit. Use a nail or screw and attach the smaller to the end of the long one. And install the seal. While there just rebuilt the entire front end if you can afford it.
Thank you for showing how to correctly remove a seal using the PROPER TOOL and spending the extra bucks to get the adjustable one. Only a hack would use a screwdriver , and you sir are no hack. Nicely done.
Just an fyi...whenever I'm going to replace a part that leaves a "sensitive to dirt" area open and, as you see here requires wiping away of dirt right next to a hole into a "sensitive to dirt area" I recommend a good pressure washing 1st. Oh..on the safety side...if you can afford a Hummer you can afford a bloody hammer...unless a bloody hammer is your goal. Good vid other than the safety issue and the possibility of maybe a good cleaning of the area one is working on before one works on it
Awesome video man! I have to replace both axel seals, pinion seals, and pinion nut. Could you provide the part numbers and website to purchase the replace parts?
thanks ,,,question do l have to put grease on new seal axle? and wht is the oter way to put new cv axle l mean on hard way do l have to hummer it? thaks and good video
You can put a bit of grease, I didn't. No, do not hammer it - watch this video that explain how to insert (c-clip position down): th-cam.com/video/qTHNO3qVjas/w-d-xo.html
@@NewRoad I’m sorry I watched the other video over and over to see the c clip position but I couldnt make it out. Do you put the open cut part of the clip facing down or do you consider that the back of the clip? Thanks so much, reason I ask is because I have had terrible hopping on the front and I think the cv axle I installed was the problem. I probably goofed up on the install.
Wow never mind, I watched your older video like 8 times and couldn’t see the c clip direction, can’t believe how clear you point it out in this one at 11:50. I def did that part upside down on my install. Wonder if that caused the issue, I’ll pull it back out and redo hopefully with more success. Thanks again
QQ, after you installed the axle into the differential, did it have any movement (up/down/sideways). Mine has movement 1/8 inch. Do you think it might be the bearing? Or other? Thanks in advance
I can't recall noticing any movement in mine. Is it only on one side? Did you have any noise while driving before? might be bearing - but my guess would be as good as yours 😉
@@NewRoad thank you for the quick reply. Passenger side only, small leak. No noise...just movement when I grib it. That's what I was thinking with the bearing, can't image the needle bearing would hold it that tight. It might :). Still fishing with dynamite :)
@@bajies4wdtours I have a 21 Colorado ZR2 that's lifted. Trying to figure out a small clunking noise when backing out of the driveway. Noticed the cv Axle has about 1/8 play just as you described. No leaking. Did you get any idea if this is normal?
@@armandonavarro9590 the movement is normal on vehicles that have been lifted or leveled in the front. For the nosie, I would look at the CV, does it only happen goes backwards?
My seal for the cv axle is leaking pretty bad and I need the vehicle. The culprit I believe is a bad wheel hub. You think I could just replace the seal to make my truck drivable for another week while my new wheel hub ships to me? Or will this ruin the new seal and possible damage other components from a bad wheel hub. I won’t get it until 5-6 days from now.
I have had my h3 since 2014 and just had both axle seals replaced for the 3rd time by a mechanic I have never been to before.it looks like the drivers side is already leaking only 3 weeks after replacement. My receipt says I have a 90 day warranty.I just hope he honors it.
I have a fox 3 inch kit on my hummer h3. But the axle boot keeps ripping what should I do ?? They said to lower it a inch and a half but I wish I don’t have to.
I don’t know which one I went to a shop it was a year ago. They got it for me and put it on. I have a video on my channel. I was thinking on just putting a longer boot on it
Fox never made lifts. The only true lifts for Hummer H3 that were made - were 4 inch lift by Rancho and Tuff Country. Those who sell 1-2 inch "lift kit" are lying - those are not lift kits. You probably got one of those, Fox shocks and extended shackles and they claimed it is 3 inch. Take a look at this video and check your front heights: th-cam.com/video/OJXq58NzJyE/w-d-xo.html. If it is more than 23.5 inch high - it may cause the problem with CV shaft. Also, if your CV shaft is not AC Delco - but one of the cheap aftermarket - you may have this problem as well.

Awesome!
Thank you so very much. I just finished doing this job by following your instructions and everything works great. You saved me a bunch of money.
Glad it helped
Thanks for putting the torque specs. Nice video 👍
Great video. Offroaders would be smart to download this and have it with them in case a CV goes bad on the trails. (I've had it happen.)
Thanks Caddy!
Thank you for making this video!!! I am just about to do this on mine and this will make it much easier.
Good luck with your project!
Thank you soooo much for this vid!!! I’m finally about to change my seal and axle. This will be a big help🤘🏻

Great video. Very Helpful. Please make more!!
Thank you
Great video! You make it look so easy. I wish bring my h3 to you. 😉
After doing few times - you are going to be pro my friend :-).
Awesome video, but now would have been the perfect time to also replace the side diff mounting bracket bushing while you replaced the axle seal.
Thank you, agree! It make sense

I would replace just a boot and it doesn't make any noise.
Great video thanks

Thanks man! I'm buying my parts from rockauto.com. Just select your truck/year/etc and they will give you choice of parts.

That shouldn't happen. Do you know which seal he install? I would suggest to go with OEM
should there be play between the axle and the front diff or its normal on the h3?
I have not notices any play in mine, I would assume if any - it would be very minimal
Do you have to remove brake caliper from the disc?
I have 2005 canyon brake is short. I removed the caliper itself, but not the caliper bracket. much easier. Support the caliper with wire.
how long does the job generally take?
It all depends if you do it first time and if you have problems undoing some bolts/nuts. I would say in average 2 hours.
Difficult to get that cv axle on the transmission side. Any ideas ?
You mean to pull out CV from transmission?
@@NewRoad No, to install it back in to the transmission. I finally got it in. Thank you. Now on to other assembly problems 😕
Sorry for late reply... you have to make sure the C-clip gap is facing down and wiggle little bit... it does take few tries to get in.

why no grease on that seal before axle goes in?????
Because GM repair manual didn't tell me to put any 😃
I have had 2 new seals put in in the last 4 months . had the front end all redone now the driver side keeps leaking
Did you buy GM OEM seals and have CVs axle from GM?
What's the cost for that exact repair on 2008 h3? Please
I'm not sure to be honest, but would think close to a thousand
I am beginning to hear a knocking noise when turning. Could this be the issue?
Might be CV axle
In the next video, can you explain things with your voice?
