Hi Muhammed. What did you think of the sound insulation? I have the normal XR model and I can hear a lot of road noise especially from the boot. Engine noise is only a bit annoying when accelerating (CVT) but once at the desired speed, the engine is very quiet. At 120km / h the revs are 2000 rpm and at 140km / h about 3000 rpm which is not bad. My biggest problem with the car is the road noise.
Hi Altus, thank you for your comment. Actually I did not experience lots of road noise. It probably was because I drove most of the time on eco mode. I find eco mode generally a bit quieter than normal and sport/power mode. In the normal XR model do you have different drive modes? If yes, on which mode do you experience the most noise? Sound insulation seems to be quite a topical issue in the Toyota Corolla Cross. The sound that I needed to get use to was when the petrol engine kicked in versus the battery but other than that in terms of road noise it was actually fine for me during my test period that I had the car. And the fact that I mainly drove in ECO mode might have made a difference. Do you guys find that the road noise differs between hybrid/non hybrid? Altus, have you test driven the hybrid before deciding to go for the non hybrid?
Hi. This would depend on many factors. Why can give you comfort is that there is a 8 year warranty on the battery. Are you looking at purchasing this car?
@MotoringAndTechWorld yes I'm looking to purchase the car. Just that someone told me it can cost about R100 000 to purchase a new battery which is worrisome for me.
Just the other day, I test drove one of these XR's HEV, the parking break positioning is a bit off, also the average I could squeeze was 4.3/100km. The engine winds very loudly at harsh acceleration (EV mode), as if it was suffering.. but that is expected on a fuel saver. My big deal is how buck will i put back in the pocket considering 4 weeks of driving budget for fuel 2500-3500. Also Insurance chilling at +- R3000.
I have not driven the non hybrid yet so I can’t comment on it. But Inshallah if I do get a chance to drive it I’ll let you know and I’ll do a review on it.
I have not driven the non hybrid yet but in theory the hybrid should be more fuel efficient as it has both electric and petrol. Generally when you are under 40km/h you will be on electric mode and not using any petrol. The amount of fuel saving you can get on the hybrid will depend on how often you are in traffic and driving less than 40km/h. Are you looking to buy a Toyota Corolla Cross?
Hi Muhammed, I really like the Corrola Cross Hybrid, I would definitely buy it for fuel effiiciency with the petrol price we are seeing and also seeing a lot of countries that have already switched to electric cars- PHEV's and HEV's
Hi Lakshan. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. I really appreciate it. The Corolla Cross Hybrid is really amazing. You are 100% correct. It is especially appealing due to its fuel efficiency. Yes that is true many countries are going that way. It will still be a long while before South Africa can head towards fully electric. But hybrid is definitely the way to go now. Have you seen the Honda FIT hybrid? The Cross hybrid is great for a SUV. If you are looking for a nice small run around then the Honda FIT hybrid is a great option. I do have a review of the FIT on my channel as well. If you check it out I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again for watching.
Slms nice car. But did you hear any loud noise coming from the CVT transmission? Some other reviewers said this is an issue especially when putting your foot on the acceleration and on uphills.
I live in Australia and have ordered a hybrid Atmos which is the the top of the range. I have to wait at least 6 months. Fuel efficiency is v important to me.
Wow that is hectic. We have the same problem here in SA. I know people who have ordered the hybrid a while back and the earliest they will get one is May next year. What do you like about this car?
Does the XR lane tracing assist (when combined with radar cruise control) actively steer to keep you centered in your lane? Or does it just warn/steer when it sees you are departing the lane?
Hi Carl, thank you for watching the video and for contributing to the discussion. When the lane keep assist is on, then as you are departing the lane the specific lane light flashes together with making a noise and the steering wheel automatically turns and guides you back in the lane. So it does not keep you centered if you are not departing the lane. I have not tested out the radar guided cruise control so I cannot comment on that. If any of you have tested out the radar guided cruise control can you please comment and let us know your experience with it? Thank you.
@@MotoringAndTechWorld Thanks Muhammed. I'm getting my xr hybrid next month (hopefully) and, as far as I understand, Toyota's Lane Trace Assist means when you activate both the lane keep and set the radar cruise control, there is centering steering. All TH-cam videos of "Lane trace assist" show this as well as the south african launch web article for the ch-r. I even drove the corolla (not cross) xr auto which has the LTA and it does the centering. The only documented exception is the corolla cross brochure which explains the lane keeping system as you have said; it warns (doesn't mention turning) when you depart the lane. This is despite the spec sheets for the cross saying it has LTA.
@@carlkohrs9857 When I tested out the lane keep assist I did not have the radar guided cruise control on. When I departed a lane it warns and also steers back into the lane but it does not centre you, the centering you will have to do manually. So it could possibly have the lane centering with the radar guided cruise control. When you get the car, please update us here on if that is the case with the lane centering. I have a video coming out tonight on the Honda FIT Hybrid. Watch it till the end and you can see how I manage to self drive it.
