If you were looking for a used supermini that would give you the least sleepless nights, it's a fair bet that most of you would plump for a Toyota Yaris. With good reason too; the Yaris finishes amongst the very top contenders in any reliability survey you care to examine. Whether it be Driver Power, TuV, Which? or JD Power, it's there or thereabouts. Here we take a look at the early MK3 models built between 2011 and 2014 and point out what to look for when shopping for a used version.

Excellent positive review whereas many others on here slate it. Daughter had previous model 1.0. Slow - yes but will cruise at 75 no problem. Been to scotland cornwall spain and Belgium. 55 -60mpg on mway . Had it 13 yrs absolutely nothing wrong over 100k except exhaust parts. Just bought her this model in 1.33. If you want A to B start every day learn to drive so much more spacious than aygo C1 etc. rear sliding seat is superb. The engines are so easy diy to. Even the rear brake drums have drilled holes that come with bolts so no more wrestling with rear brake drums, just put bolts in and wind them off. I really think this is the best most reliable supermini for someone on a budget. My daughter has a friend with 180,000 miles on her 1.0 all done in 9 yrs . Maybe bland but a corker. Your company’s reviews are so accurate and thorough. I do think a short mway run wouldn’t hurt ie a noise /comfort comment for long distances. My daughters is slow to get there but once there no problem but that’s with 2 people in maybe not 5..
Let’s face it a chain driven twin cam in the 70s we’re chased by lotus and fast fords

Manual or auto? Do remember to change the engine oil no more than 6,000m for a beautiful reliable engine for the future.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of driving a car with the steering wheel on the right hand side. Don't they make Yaris with normal controls?

Best Toyota yaris: from 2007 to 2018, 1-nz fe (1.5l petrol), automatic (the manual is the weak point, with an automatic you can ealisy do 350.000 miles)

I keep hearing the auto is weak, i got the CVT with 88,000m & did the fluid with the proper Toyota FE, drained & refilled x2 in a week as i got the 5L bottle....each drain needs 2.2L so that was perfect.

What? Why's that? Naaa, beautiful smooth drive & i get the same MPG as the 6sp manual as i've owned mine for 2yrs.

I have just bought 2012 automatic 1.3. VVTi. SR. And I love it! Even now in 2023. So easy to drive.
