    The original Toyota Yaris was distinctive and fun, with plenty of space inside for passengers. The latest model is a solid and dependable car with a lot going for it - including plenty of space and standard equipment, but does it have what it takes to stand up to the competition? The Yaris comes with a range of frugal petrol and diesel engines, as well as an efficient hybrid, and is available with a choice of three or five doors.

    I dont know what this video is on about...i own this car, 5 door with the 1.3L engine and man thats a little poky engine! I mean, you really dont expect the punch that it delivers for the power it has, its really good..the gearbox is an absolute joy! Its notchy in a good "mazda mx5" way, the chassi feels super planted and playfull, brakes are good, engine sounds amazing, and it IS quiet! I drive this car on fast german autobahns everyday (160kmh+) and it is not loud at all! Even at 180/190kmh it is still quiet enough that i dont feel i need to raise the radios volume..and by the way radio: what speakers do toyota put in this thing?! It sounds AMAZING! Its an awesome car and YES a lot of fun to drive! I would buy it over and over again..love it

    I have a 2014 model automatic Yaris hybrid, it's also my first car. As a new driver I find it super easy to drive and just the right size for me. I also like the bluetooth syncing with my phone for music and automatic wipers and headlights. Although the Honda Civic-R is my goal one day.

    I had a Ford, a Hyundai and two Toyotas, so I say with all due respect Ginny, I'd go with the Yaris because I had nothing, but anger and frustration with Ford and specially Hyundai whether I had almost no problems with my Toyotas. Yes, they may be boring, but is there anything more bothersome than a problematic car? The Fiesta with the Powershift transmission is one of the most extremely bitter lemons out there and Hyundai's after sales service in my experience is a complete joke.

      +JELH Why do 'auto journalists' constantly denigrate and dismiss reliability? There is nothing boring about a car that never breaks down. Waiting at the garage while the mechanics go on a very expensive fishing expedition to diagnose the latest breakdown is the epitome of boredom and frustration. The easiest thing to engineer into a car is fun and the hardest thing is reliability.
      Merci beaucoup to the people in Valencienne , France you build a very good car!

      Seem to be hearing a mixed bag about ford, I drive a 2001 focus and it's never broke down or had any problems, you always see in the papers and on the radio or wherever when someone says I'm thinking of getting this car or that car, if one car is a focus the expert always recommends that because it's reliable and cheap to repair if anything does go wrong.

    • @1northsparrow246
      @1northsparrow246 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your 2001 Focus appears to be the exception that proves the rule. There are many objective and quantitative sources that demonstrate the mediocrity of Ford products.

      +Desperate4Attention I've heard of mk1 focus' often reaching 300k miles, I don't know where all the negativity is coming from, I don't know if you live in the states but in the UK ford have been reliable good cars since around the introduction of the focus.

    I don't see the reason you rated the yaris that much lower than its competitors. It might not be fun to drive or quiet, but it is bigger, more reliable and better value than many of its rivals while the efficiency seem to be equal to them. You must take into consideration all the aspects of a car.

    I always hear European reviewers criticising the “Quality” of Toyota plastics. I live in Australia and very few plastic car interiors handle the extreme heat over many years the way Toyota’s do, so I would suggest using another word other than “Quality” if you want to describe what you dislike about the plastic.

    i just dont understand why car infotainment systems are soo freaking slow ??? i mean its 2016 ffs.. a good mediatek SoC would run a 1080p ((we all know those are not 1080p screens they are not even 720p...)) screen at 30/60fps constant and it costs like 3~25$ MAX .... car manufacturers are idiots when it comes to tech .... get an-android tab with 480p/720p screen make an-app/launcher for the cars system and call it a day god knows those things cost like 10~30$ for the whole thing >>

      +KingStivan agree it shocks me when you see a system in 2016 lag like hell? $50 chinese tablets are faster! it would be so painful that I'd rather not have it than have a crappy, laggy one.

      Edd Stance i know right ! just give us a free tablet/phone mount with charging integration and a free app that i can download for the damn thing >> trust me car makers its cheaper this way and the system could be fresh for YEARS ((i doubt that they want the last part to be true >> ))

    • @azerkdd
      @azerkdd 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +KingStivan Reason for car infotainments lacking features and slow regardless of brand is because they are looked down upon. Infotainment divisions in companies never get too big of a budget. Companies are more focused on and invested in driving characteristics, safety concerns, structural issues, making car suitable for both usa and european markets etc.
      You can also check this article for things i didn't mention above
      www.digitaltrends.com/android/why-car-infotainment-systems-lag-behind-smartphones/
      My personal opinion is just get rid of the infotainment and put some proper buttons and switches on the car. Touchscreen is a safety hazard because it requires you looking at where your finger is while you can feel a button and dont have to look at it. Everybody has their phones and tablets. Sattelite navigation is the only screen a car should have.

    is there a big difference between the 2011 to the 2016? I have a 2011 and my brother is thinking about this for reliability and price.. There good cars but not really a good car for highway or cross country driving. I don't like the power but I know it's a more economical car.

      Dom not good for highway? Utter rubbish. These cars can sit perfectly well at the speed limit, so why do people insist on saying such garbage? Ive had loads of small engined cars, and been long journeys with no problems in all of them. The road isn't a bloody racetrack. Problem is macho behaviour these days. Must have big car with big powerful engine LOL. Its an ego thing.

    Looks small but is quite roomy inside, owned a 2012 VW polo and that felt quite small inside, but the Yaris has good adequate space. I purchase this based on that I wanted the reliability factor more than anything else. MY VW polo was a bit of a disappointment cause it only did near 62,000 and needed a big repair cost which I thought no chance.

    The Yaris is a good car, it is economical, low running costs. However, the manual gearbox is annoying. If you drive on a highway which is not entirely flat, some hills, you constantly have to downshift to either 5th or 4th gear when in 6th gear at around 80-90 km/h,. The engine does not have enough power!!! You can drive on cruise control for like a minute or two before you have to downshift! If I get another Yaris, it will be "automatic", E-CVT.

    I don't mind engine noise at all. It makes it easier to tell if something goes wrong. Personally, I'm very much over music these days and would rather listen to the sounds of the road than a crappy radio, any day.

      Hahahah, finally someone agree'ing. The AGila 2000-2007 (same as Corsa) has very nimble engine, and sound insulation is low but you know exactly by sound when to go to higher gear or when you are to low, or when you didnt put it far enough, i then insta reflex to neutral and put it back again to fix.
      I had someone in Huydai I20 with heavy sound insulation and she couldnt hear she was in to low gearbox 50% of time, i just know by looking at dashboard, seeing number and putting my ear on dashboard, then i heard the motor protesting.
      One reason i don't like the Corsa E (2015), the Corsa D still has adequate balance (more silent then Agila)) but still audible for mistakes and clutching, btw Opel has the best petrol noise imo, so hearing it is nice rather then silent car, i'm always worried in silent car.
      I would buy this yaris, if demand and supply (2010-2014 model) wasn't so terrible. For some reason there's not much on market and if they come, they charge 3000-7000€ to much (compared to Corsa D for example).

    I'm not sure why the i10 is linked to this. The Fiesta, sure, but the i10 is an A-segment car, so the i20, Polo, Corsa or 208 would've made more sense.

    I had a mk 3 2012 model 'same car without 2016 facelift' hated the one wiper system. Left a big unwiped area on passenger side. Tinny as sh*te. Thick pillers obstruct night vision and CVT model screamed at you when you needed power.Also people will notice this now that I have brought it up-the brakes are noisy. there make a drown and the dealer couldn't fix it. I drove a courtesy car and that had the same problem. I hope there have fixed it on facelift model. The Yaris is made in France !, I changed it for a SKODA Rapid. Best car I;ve had.

    Modern Toyotas have completely lost their fun factor, yes they are amazing all rounders with second to none reliability and ease of driving, however going from a 2013 auris that I drove the other day back to my personal car a MK1 Yaris t sport. The auris provides no feedback through the wheel due to the fact that the steering is electronically assisted and far to light plus the brakes are way to sharp and the fly by wire accelerator pedal is so disconnected a carrier pigeon would be quicker and have less delay. I have honestly never felt so out of control in my life. Other than that though don't get me wrong new Toyotas are solid cars and won't let you down. My advice is buy a Yaris t sport or a vitz rs turbo if you can get your hands on one😂😂

    I got a ford focus and want to get rid of it for a Toyota corolla or yaris. the Ford has nice styling and drives good, but it is cheaply and poorly built with poor mechanical reliability, I have already replaced the steering rack and now the heater core has failed and the car only has 70,000 kilometers on it. the engines are not made to last as they are designed by Yamaha and ford. I have driven a yaris and I believe they will last a longtime without too many issues
