Woodturning - The Square Plate

  • This week project video is a fairly simple project, ideal for woodturning beginners. Used an exotic square hardwood blank (Leopardwood) and turned it into a wooden plate / platter / bowl. To add a little twist into this wood turning project I shaped the bottom to look like it is standing on four little legs. Whilst it may seem difficult to do, it was very simple using a Dremel rotary tool. Some more sanding was needed at the bottom but the whole process did not take a long time.

    What beautiful patination on both sides of the plate - the whole plate is a lovely shape and your three little feet add to the total perfection! 😍👍👀🍽🏆🥇

      Thanks Bluey👍 First time turning leopardwood but yes the grain is pretty awesome :) The feet is an interesting addition I will definitely utilise this more in the future specially when you have greater thickness / materials to work with could look even better and bigger.

      Certainly it is beautiful, but kind of dusty to work with. But the grain well compensate for that 😀

    Beautiful wood.
    But my question is - why did you carve up the ring base to make 4 feet ? I would think the ring foot would be much more stable.

    Hi, I just discovered your channel!
    You made a beautiful piece!
    In the end, when you sculpted the four legs, I thought it might not be a good idea, but it turned out great!

      Thanks much appreciated. Yes it was a risky move but glad it turned out good as it gives a little extra feature to the plate

    Beautiful...but a lot of wasted exotic lacewood. I've never seen a solid piece that big in person. Must have been very old.

    • @DavidsWoodturning
      @DavidsWoodturning  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. :) Downside of woodturning the waste is a fair bit when it comes to hollowing a bowl/plate/vase. First time using lacewood very interesting grains but like it
