That's a nice train. I was supposed to be on it last Monday but my connecting train Texas Eagle got cancelled. At least I was able to get to Newton, KS via the Southwest Chief. I did see the Heartland Flyer about 15-20 minutes before it left Oklahoma the other day and there were a lot of people at the station.
@@ScottPalmer-mp1we that’s a bummer! The Heartland Flyer definitely has good charm about it, and it draws a good crowd. I hope to be onboard the first extended service train from Newton to Fort Worth!
@@RedRiverRailfan I've been on the HF three times, but my son has moved east so there is a good chance I never will again but who knows? My wife and I live in CT.
@@ScottPalmer-mp1wewell I’m glad you had the chance to ride it a few times! I bet you get to see a lot more Amtrak up there than you would down here. It’s quite a shame in my opinion that once you get west of the Mississippi River that there’s hardly any Amtrak service
@@RedRiverRailfan When are they looking to connect the Newton, KS to OKC segment? It's tough, I'm sure to get out of the train around 2:15 to take a bus around 3 something to OKC. I was a bit fortunate in that the Chief left four hours behind schedule and I had a roomette. I got off around 5:40. By the way, Amtrak notified me of the Texas Eagle cancellation when I was on the Lakeshore Limited and thankfully, I was able to book a roomette on the Chief.
@ScottPalmer-mp1we The complete overhaul of the service is expected by 2029, which includes the extension to Newton as well as “increased service along the original route.” According to the original report by “AmtrakConnectsUS.com”, Amtrak’s vision extends the existing Heartland Flyer route to serve Wichita and link to Amtrak’s Southwest Chief, as well as: • Expand from 1 to 3 round trips between Oklahoma City (OKC) and Fort Worth (FTW), connecting with Texas Triangle services to Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio, and the Texas Eagle to Los Angeles, Tucson, St. Louis, and Chicago. • Extend 1 Fort Worth - Oklahoma City round trip to Wichita and Newton, KS (NEW) for a connection with Amtrak’s Southwest Chief to Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Kansas City, and Chicago
I came back here to try to find your old Heartland Flyer video I remember watching, but I like this one a lot and I'm glad I stumbled upon it (well, by searching for 'Heartland Flyer' trip videos again, but...still! Had no idea there was an anniversary event.) (That other video was good too, though, IMO). It seems like there are a lot more Heartland Flyer vids on YT now too, like maybe 6 or 7 compared to 2 or 3 like before, which I love seeing. Nice to see th OKC-Fort Worth route get some more love on TH-cam. I know I think I just said the same thing twice haha but i don't care. One day, I'll take this train. Just sucks to not be anywhere near any of the stops. But what can you do? Anyways, I can't believe I missed this opportunity! Would have loved to be in the observation car for the anniversary trek. But I love seeing this anyway, makes me feel like I'm there anyway! Though, watching a video and having first hand experience are two different things. Still, was pretty great. Also, re: 31:21 -- Imagine a railfan seeing that happen right nearby them. I think if I was a close witness to that, I'd be traumatized. I do have to know though, are the regular coach seats comfortable for the whole 4 hour trip? I'm not sure I could sit still that long! (Though, I do know there's better leg room than on airlines!)
I'm glad you liked the video! The Heartland Flyer is a great train no matter what time you ride it. I will say that we did really enjoy the sightseer lounge coach but the coaches are more practical and still extremely comfortable, especially with the new upholstery. Also, for your comment on needing to get up and move around, you are permitted and even encouraged to get up and walk around throughout the cars. Even with the regular 2-3 car consist, I would recommend getting up and exploring (especially if it means finding yourself in the snack bar!). And I would agree, that scene would be rather shocking, but there were no major injuries in the event, I just thought I would make a rather dark joke to fit some of my younger audience haha! And, it is to be noted that I took down my previous AHF video due to some information I had gotten wrong, plus I wanted to put my new twist on video making out into the world and not have it competing my old content. Thank you for your comment! I appreciate it!
@@Seawiz21 very much so!!! Flights are way more inexpensive out of DFW airport because it’s much higher traffic than OKC. Many passengers onboard were going directly from the train to TexRail to go to the airport
