    Thanks for the video and trip report. It looks like it serves the area well. I was glad to see it had a cafe car as Amtrak does not always have cafe cars on some shorter distance trains. I did notice as usual you were delayed by freight traffic on the trip. Too bad BNSF could not do a better job keeping this train on time.

      I'm glad you enjoyed! I too was worried that there would not be a cafe onboard, especially considering that from the outside, there is no indication that the center car has one. I also wish that we would have had an on time arrival into OKC, but such is life when you ride with Amtrak.

    POV: Lonestar trip reports in 9090. today were going to be hijacking a BNSF freight train and let's see how smooth the ride is. So we have a coal hopper here installed with 9990991 cafe and 91 passenger cars 62 sleeper cars and 122 baggage cars and we also have 10010 toilet cars :/ and that's all for today

    Hello. I've noticed that you did not mention Greyhound buses are also at Fort Worth Central Station. Only reason why I know is because in September 2021 I was en route to San Antonio, but due to trackwork at the time I had to get off in Fort Worth. While in the station, I noticed a Greyhound ticket & information window. At the time, I assumed that Amtrak had Greyhound buses set for continuation to San Antonio. That wasn't the case. There had buses from a private company for us.

      Glad to hear it! I flew through Phoenix a couple months ago, and I too had a boring flight. I filmed it in preparation for a video, but it just wasn’t very interesting, so I’ve shelved it for now. I might put it up in the future, but it’s very low priority.

    How full was the train? We have a trip planned but we will get on at the Norman station and I assume most people get on at OKC. We have 4 people and I want to be sure we can all sit in the same area.

      I don't remember exactly how busy the train was, but it wasn't too bad. I'd bet you won't have too much trouble finding a group of seats together, especially considering you're getting on at the second stop.

      As you would have noticed if you watched the Texas Eagle video he did before boarding this Heartland Flyer, Amtrak is in the process of refurbishing all of the Superliner fleet of rolling stock. The good news is Amtrak is expected to finish this refurbishing process by the end of 2024. In this process Amtrak will be RETURNING to service 12 wrecked Superliner cars...

    10:42 And that's why I usually let one of my coworkers make the announcements over the PA whenever I'm working excursion service over on my road. Can't stand hearing the sound of my own voice, quite honestly. Lol

  • @dimanimatedtakes
    @dimanimatedtakes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Just saw both parts of the Texas Eagle journey to come back to this video - I actually was wondering, is there any sort of penalty if you get off on an earlier stop then you're booked for? Or do you just have to tell the conductor/attendant/whoever that you're gonna get off somewhere else instead and everything's fine?

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ya know, I have no idea. I just figured that I had paid for my ticket from San Antonio to Dallas, and that if I got off earlier, choosing not to use the service I paid for, then so be it. That being said, it does NOT work from the start of a journey. For instance, you cannot board at a later station then you paid for, as Amtrak will cancel your reservation if the ticket isn’t scanned when it should have been.

    Why do they need 2 P42DCs? It’s 2-3 superliners

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's got nothing to do with train weight and everything to do with train direction. It's not particularly easy for the Heartland Flyer to turn a locomotive around in OKC, so Amtrak operates two P42DCs, one on either end, to allow for trains to run in both directions.
