This is exactly what I’m saying about the Supra. To shave off 219 lbs, while not reducing straight-line performance by much, is pretty impressive to me. Not to mention that you’re saving 8 grand if you’re buying one new. If power is such a necessity to you, there are plenty of tunes. It’s a B48 after all. For me, and for a lot of people in my opinion, the 2.0T is the way to go.

I finally have a dream car. I load up the webpage for configuring the car a few times a week as I plot my path to buying one within the next year. A base model 2.0L Supra in Nitro Yellow with a few mods thrown into it. I intend on upgrading the turbocharger to a bigger model (one day) and replacing the plastic intake pipes with the aluminum aftermarket ones. I might mess with the exhaust, I might not…I prefer the deeper exhaust notes of the 3.0L but not the deeper price 😅

I know the car is way different than a mustang and type r, but I don't really understand what niche this fills. If you want a light, tossable sports car, get a Miata or BRZ. Once you pass 3000lbs, you may as well have some power to back it up.

Lightweight and agile overpower., I’ve driven a Bentley for example it’s a fast car but they are so heavy that you don’t really even enjoy it. I want to feel the road when I’m driving. Man I can relate to that smoking truck comment. One time I was driving across the state with a fucked exhaust- couldn't bear to go over 65 except on downhill because it was too damn loud. Started smelling burning brakes/clutch - thinking wtf is wrong now, is my car on fire?! Pull off the highway, look underneath, look under the hood, no smell. Shrugged and got back on the highway (possibly the slowest 0-63). Started smelling it again, started freaking out again. Finally I see a truck on the side of the road, pretty sure a trailer tire was on fire. Poor guy, but man I was so happy

I'm enthusiastic about this but a recent Car and Driver test at the Virginia International Raceway exposed the brakes as a weakness. Fade was progressive on this tough track compared to the Supra 3.0's much better brakes and Toyota should upgrade the 2.0's brakes.

Probably an interesting chassis to drive for someone who doesn't care about the inline 6 (although it's the major point of the supra but why not afterall) or who might be still learning rwd. Better balance, I'm sure it has plenty enough poke to do some oopsy moments, 30 years ago we had no choice, inline 6 heavy nose but smooth and torquey, or inline 4, mostly na, great chassis but unless you rev the crap out of it (if you could because with a Bmw M40 ... you know).

Dead at the top of the rev range, quick but completely disconnected steering, a synthetic and almost lifeless driving experience, and no manual to even try to bring some mechanical feel back to some aspect of the car. I will say that it did feel light compared to other BMWs I drove that day, making even the 2.0 feel very capable and the whole car feel...tossable? makes me wonder how the Supra would be, with any engine config. super bummed about the trans though.

Whilst I am ok with a 2.0L Supra (remember, its only the more recent Supra's that had 3.0L engines) I don't think that swapping to a 4 cylinder engine really helps. If it were a 2.0L 6 cylinder then it would be a bit more ... Well, more Supra.
Lets be honest, we all know that the 3.0L doesn't actually produce 335hp, its much more than that. So it's difficult to really compare them without laptimes and quarter mile times

Thinking of getting one used saw some near me that are pretty nice looking. This I think will drop in price with the new Z coming out. The Z is just as nice looking and has plenty of tech and with it coming with a manual and 400 HP its going to be hard to sell these at 40k for a 4 banger for much longer I can see these around 35k soon.

Sounds much better than I was expecting, but given that it's actually a BMW, I'm guessing that sound is significantly fake or modified. Otherwise it seems like it could be a good enthusiast offering, especially with a tune, but damn the transmission sounds kinda slow.... I think if they made the 4cyl in a manual then it would be an intriguing proposition.

Hate to be "that guy" but this looks like it would be a blast with a 6-speed manual, like the Mazda RX-8 used to be, or the current BRZ/86, especially for those who value handling and fun over raw speed. Maybe put one of those new 7-speed manuals into it for better economy.

Not even comparable to a mini or another hot hatch and yes i drove these roads with many cars already. There are better cars sure, but at this price level new? No. But in europe we get the 2.0 with the big breaks and the eLSD.
