    Some old sets are actually still have a fair price, especially the ones not as sought after. Thanks for all the help man :)

      Smaller sets, sets with repeated figures, sets without exclusive figures, sets in a Ziploc bag oppose to in a box, sets with no instruction, sets that are missing minor pieces are all the best way to find the one your looking for

    I successfully used BrickLink to get the pieces for the Fallingwater Architecture set. I have admired this iconic home sine I saw a documentary in the 1990’s and in 2003 I was able to book the advanced early tour that accessed more areas than the regular tour. Building the model reminded me of the colours and textures I saw inside Fallingwater. They had just finished a major refurbishment to stabilise much of the structure.
    New in box or mint sets are going for between £100 and £200.
    I bought the parts and downloaded the instructions as a PDF for a little over £70 and from two suppliers.

    Your first bricklink video inspired me to part together a bunch of old star wars sets. I parted together the phantom from star wars rebels and some other polybag builds, I'm working on parting together one of the older naboo Starfighters, the 2005 obi wan Starfighters with hyperdrive ring and the 2008 Anakin's Jedi starfighter

    Another helpful and clever video Dr Jake - there are some huge bargains to be had for those who are willing to look. Rule of thumb for me is parting out probably works better IF you already have some parts that make up the set.....and my lovely UCS X-Wing is proudly on display thanks to you. Thank you for mentioning me in your video and in the description, I appreciate this a lot (it's a big deal to a small channel like mine👍🏻) All of your tips really do work, and I'm telling anyone who will listen!!!! 👍🏻😀

    I've used bricklink for while, but it's thanks to your videos that I know how to get the best out of it! Have successfully parted out several vintage sets now and got them for a reasonable price. Always look here first when buying complete sets too, after been dissatisfied with several eBay purchases. Cheers

  • @steff11
    @steff11 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Parting out seems like the best option; although if not having the box and instructions bother people, they can probably look to buy the box and the instructions on their own for probably next to nothing

    Makes sense that even the Lego sets are affected by the low interest in sequel era Star Wars toys - the action figures from The Last Jedi tend to end up on clearance. But there might be a resurgence of popularity down the line.

      First thing to introduce you to our culture. The plural of lego is lego. A bunch of pieces is not a bunch of legos. Have a nice day, I hope you enjoy lego

    • @twenty-twpilts8042
      @twenty-twpilts8042 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shifty not butthurt but the difference is one is grammatically correct and the other isn’t. And it’s not a hard difference, if u saw someone in a Gucci outfit you wouldn’t say oh look that dudes wearing Guccis. Lego is the brand name, and a group of “legos” is a group of lego pieces

    • @twenty-twpilts8042
      @twenty-twpilts8042 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shifty no that’s exactly what NOT to do. I put legos in quotation marks there because it’s wrong, like I was quoting u

    Another good way to buy cheap legos is through...Goodwill... Not sure if you have any in the UK but they have a online auction. (You do have to watch out for shipping cost) Another thing too on BrickLink you could also part out the box or mini figures you want separately...

    Its a bit hit and miss for me using BrickLink, some sellers want silly money for parts and sets, the orders are incorrect on a regular basis. I find I often get a complimentary pube with my orders.....Marvellous!

    Brick link is still expensive. I found cheaper sets on eBay than on brick link. Someone put up a set on brick link without the instructions for a higher price than a set on eBay at a lower price. Parting out may work for some sets but not all.

    I’ve bought a ton of sets on Bricklink by getting the cheaper used listings. I wish all sellers included pictures of their used sets as many (most) have actually been incomplete even if listed complete. And some have had very ugly parts. Having a picture helps me. I’m actually ok with sets being missing minor parts which I can usually come up with - but I’ve had some that were apparently people just thought it was complete so they listed it as complete. I’ve blacklisted some sellers so I remember not to buy from the again. But I also do that most sellers are not like that.

    Good video Dr Jake. I noticed you had a set in mind before starting your bricklink set searches. Is there any EASY way to navigate bricklink to browse all cheap sets? perhaps of a category e.g. City. FYI i am not a seller or bricklink guru. I would just be looking for random cheap sets that my son might like to play with. Minifigs and instructions are essential. Box is not

    I am wondering how I can apply a list of parts to a wanted list to subtract them from the list. I have the 75954 Great Hall and have the 2bricks MOC rendition of it as a wanted list. And I intend to break down the 75954 to maybe save some money on what would be duplicate parts. I wonder, how can I do this without removing the pieces manually?

    Writing this is October 2020, this video hasn't aged well in terms of regarding European shipping costs as relatively cheap. It's about to get a helluva lot more expensive to buy a set from Germany!

  • @aidenrose8590

    Your not a scalper for buying a few sets and hoping they go up in value. Scalpers buy out all of the supply of Lego from stores to put on their brick link store for extortionate prices

  • @miles4618
    @miles4618 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason that BrickLink is so cheap is because the fees on selling aren’t as large as on eBay, whereas eBay takes a total of around 20% BrickLink takes much less, so people sell for less on there. And also if they don’t post at a low cost, it may not come up first when searched for.

  • @TheSwedishOak

    If you have a gigantic minifig collection and not set to go with each fig it came with , not counting the minifig bags they are add ons to what ever you build ,
    You and your collection are meaningless to the Lego community and enjoy selling them all when your 90 as it will take that long to sell them all.
