@@ellisp276 that is basically LOTR, not sure how many castle themes they can really support, I am sure they will mix it anyway. Such as majisto, but they have in the past taken it way too far.
Castle 2 was my childhood. I had so many crazy potlines, my main story was about medieval England and Spain uniting and warring against the orcs and skeletons. I made my own castle from a bunch of different smaller sets. I took it very serious, even forcing the peasants to pay taxes. Then I turned 12 and my little siblings destroyed everything, it was a fine age to stop.
In the mid 90s, I was saving up to buy the 5590 Model Team set. My older brother sort of said that for my birthday, he would give me the rest of the money I needed. I mean, I had catalogue photos of 5590 taped up in my room, I wanted it so bad. In my birthday, my brother hands me a tiny box. I unwrapped it and it was that Wolfpack one with the ghost and tree. I thought THAT was the gift so I feigned gratitude and a little later I opened the box, and he had already slipped the rest of the money into the box, and I went to Toys R Us that night and bought it. It was the best lego buying experience of my life!
I was a bit surprised to find out that LEGO Kingdoms wasn't even mentioned, I grew up with that one and managed to get every set from that lineup, I guess that line was not so focused in Castles themselves.
Knight's Kingdom has a special place in my heart because of the narrative that was told throughout the sets. It wasn't necessarily good but it was charming for what it was.
I think the action figures were among my most used toys at that time. Me and my brothers would pick one to play with (we had most of them) and have grand adventures together.
Those old dragon molds are so sweet! I hope they re-release them. Maybe modernize the look somewhat, like what they did with the oldschool shark and alligator pieces
Without a doubt, even with all the licensed stuff Lego has made that I love very dearly, Lego Castles/Kingdoms and Pirates are easily my favorite lines of sets with Castles barely beating out Pirates. I love history already, and being able to play with Legos that directly connect to my lifelong passions is so awesome I can’t even describe. Someday I hope to amass a great collection of Castles sets so I can gaze upon my plastic kingdom in reverence and satisfaction after years of searching and building
I, too, love history and couldn't agree more. I've collected a fair amount of castle sets and well over 500 castle figs of every faction on display. Speaking from experience, it's extremely expensive and takes a lot of space, it is fun and a grind at the same time. But I will say they won't keep you warm at night, lol
Yeah I loved Castle and Pirates to death, and mixed them together both for my custom builds and when I would create stories with them. To my child mind, they both took place in the past, so that was close enough. I remember being a bit sad when the first Ninja theme sets came out, only because I was already an adult by then and didn't have the time or imagination to play with Lego the way I did as a kid, but I could still picture some of the cool new stories I could've created with them. And now more than 25 years later I've seen so many other cool themes come and go. I still pick up minifig sets here and there, but I definitely miss the old days.
Fantasy was short lived but it really popped off in czech republic. Me and my friend almost had every set. For us the fantasy era was our childhood and best sets we ever had
The Castle sets were actually my first Legos. I acquired three small sets from the early 1990s. Since my family was struggling financially at that time, I highly valued these small sets. Although I often admired the larger castle sets in toy stores, I knew my family couldn't afford them. Thank you for creating this recap; it has reignited my passion for LEGO.
I loved the Wolf Pack! Didn’t realise they only ever had 3 sets. I remember the Christmas when I got their hideout! I was building it while eating my Christmas dinner! 🐺💚
I honestly wish they'd release a fantasy era throwback or two, that was my main castle line as a kid. I kind of caught the end of Knights' Kingdom but never owned any myself, mostly cousins and friends that were a year or two older
12:51 This is the castle sets me and my cousins played with throughout middle school. Such an iconic set, and really solidified my love for legos. I had legos since early 2000's, but this set was amazing and had the best designs in the history of Lego. (Also, the game Lego Battles that came out around this time was amazing)
The 7094 set defined my childhood and the love for Lego that I felt. I haven’t seen it in long time, but when I recognized it in the video, it was as beautiful as the day I lost it
The Wolfpack may have only had a few sets, but it did also get a foam shield prop in the Legoland Windsor gift shop around the millennium. Still got mine somewhere, was pretty neat.
I remember getting the Black Monarchs Castle for Christmas when I was twelve. I had a bunch of the smaller castle themed sets already, but that was my first actual Castle.

I had a 6080 King's Castle set as a kid in 1986. It was my first Lego set, and my parents spent way more than they had to spare on it for me. That was one of the best Christmas mornings I can remember.
I had the King's Mountain Fortress for my 10th birthday and I will never forget it. I enjoyed it so much, I spent so many hours playing with this set... Awesome memories.
Being a kid from ‘78 my castle was the yellow 375 one; really liked it all along. one massive advantage of this early set is that it had multiple small pieces instead of wall bricks; so later found myself building smaller yet more interesting structures. never got a forest men / wolfpack set later on; but really enjoyed boarding over to the first pirate sets.
Growing up in the 90s, I play with Legos here and there. It wasn't 'til the turn of the century,(my teen years) I REALLY started to get into them. I wanted a castle set so bad. I finally got the '07 one when I was 22, and I was ecstatic. I still have it too.
My favorites were always the falcon faction. Maybe it was that they had a smaller castle and seemed like the underdog or maybe it was just the colour scheme. But yeah the 6073 castle was awsome!
I had the original Kings castle and the Forrest hideout when I was growing up. I’m just now getting interested in these again after discovering my old legos in a box in my parent’s basement.
Yea, Castle 2 was the peak imo. The dragon designs were epic, along with the many factions of Skeletons, Trolls, Dwarves, Knights, everything was perfect. I remember those giant movable towers for the bad guys, and the green dragon vs black dragon fights I'd have with my cousins when we were kids.
okay the castle revival is underrated here. it had a lot more progression then just being a short stint, it went on for a few years and had many many sets. it was the the main focus for the first lego movie, the one before 'the lego movie'.
As a kid from Brazil, born from not so well-off parents, the castle Lego sets were my dream 😢! I never had them. My dad only had enough money to buy smaller sets. I got the King's Castle set for Christmas when I was 6 in 1984, it was probably my most played with toy ever, I used to rebuild fantastical designs and it turned into a Naepoleonic fort when the Pirate line came along with muskets and canons.
I just stumbled on this video and was taken on a nostalgia trip. I had so many of the sets from the late 80s and 90s. I used to have my pirates fight all of the knights because I didn't know the knights had lore that deep, except that the Wolf Pack guys would betray them to the pirates when I played haha. Thank you for unlocking this core memory!
I’m so glad I grew up playing with the Knight’s Castle, King’s Castle, and Black Falcon Fortress. I feel like I caught the Lego wave at exactly the right time. I even went back a few years ago and pulled all my old Legos out to combine them into one Mega Castle. The Black Falcons were my favorite. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the iconic Black Falcon Siege Tower. I’m all about magic and dragons, but it looks like the castle series went downhill after these sets. The later sets lack the visual appeal and clean ascetics of those early castles.
Those platforms just unlocked a memory. My babysitter growing up has like three of those platforms and me and the other kids would take each other's miniatures prisoner and put them in that lowered portion in the middle
I really liked the deep dive into the classic castle but the phantasy era, kingdoms and castle 2013 felt skimped over so I hope we could get a part 2 to this video to talk more about the more modern castle waves.
Ah the memories. LEGO was a big part of my childhood and the castle theme was the biggest part of my collection. I often used them to relive in 3D the story of my "Chose Your Own Adventure" books. This bring me an idea, the next TTRPG campaign I create I'll definitely base the factions on the numerous LEGO castle coat of arms.
I had a lot of the fantasy castle stuff .Almost every set. I made a big medieval cog ship for the knights too with a full interior lol. I hope they bring it back by the time I'm a father. I don't think the other newer themes are as creative. Nothing beats making your own castles
I always loved the fright knights even though I didn't grow up with them. Basil the batlords helmet has always been my favorite piece and the spooky theme stands out from the rest of the castles themes.
Castle 2 is by far my favourite theme! My first ever set was the dwarf catapult on wheels that my mum always called 'the pie thrower' and so the sets are core memories of childhood. Not only that but it led fairly directly to my love of warhammer and orks now so I have a lot to be thankful for from this theme!
I had a bunch from the early-mid 90’s which I loved. You’re the only person I’ve seen cover the Castle line who mentioned Fright Knights. I remember that but everyone forgets to mention it. Technically, Ninja was also a Castle theme in the late 90s, which I loved way more than the later Ninjago. Especially the Minifigs
I remember getting 6073 for Christmas the year it came out. It was cool. We had gone to New York City for the Macy's Parade that year and in Gimbels they had a HUGE castle build set up that was the most amazing thing I had ever seen.
I personally used to own kings castle from 2013, I gave it away at a garage sale when I was young (so much pain). I used to love the 2013 castle series, I had so much fun with it
I love this video and content, but I could hear this slightly weird creepy music in the background? I think you should consider something more on theme, I felt kinda weirded out and played some medieval ambient music so I could properly focus and enjoy the content. I really appreciated how you went into detail about the different factions and changes throughout the years!!
I would definitely buy a new castle set if they come out with a 50-80 dollar price tag. I love Lego Castle but the cheapest Castle set you can buy now is for $100! Lego really needs to make some smaller sets, some medium sets, and then one big banger $400 set like Lion Knights Castle. Keep up the great work!❤
Loved the fantasy focused Castle 2007 theme, I had the dwarve’s mine and two of the princess’ tower. Being a lotr nerd as a kid who loved Lego, it was the closest thing to Lego lotr I could get at the time.
Lego is such a great toy for castles. Absolutely love the early stuff through the 90s the best. I’m impressed with the detail of the newer sets, but feel that because of their great detail; they lack the charm of the early sets. My favorite has always been the Wolfpack faction, even though I never had their sets as a kid but some of my friends did. By the time I asked for the Wolfpack Tower for Christmas it had been discontinued and my parents couldn’t find it…. But! I did recently buy a set (definitely pricey) and can’t wait to get back into legos now that some of my kids are of age! Couldn’t think of a better set to start with than the one I coveted the most.
These sets were legendary when i was growing up. I remember my dad mentioning how his little brother had one of the castles but sold it after a few years. My little soul was crushed
The newest castle they released shows that with modern techniques Lego castles can be gorgeous builds, way more than just 4 walls with a draw bridge. Add to the inherent beauty also the nostalgia factor of all the people who grew up with castles between the 1980s and the 2010s (we're talking about two generations) and you have a lot of potential fans for a new wave of Lego castles.
Lego knights kingdom had a very cool lore about these knights facing many obstacles, build like literal dungeons, that was truly like playing an heroic fantasy rpg
I received 6080 for Christmas in 1984, I later had both the 'Knights Castle' and the 'Black Falcon's Fortress' although I did know them by those names at that point. I had many other sets, I had the armoury twice but lost one of the black swords. I had stopped collecting by 1990. In the UK most of the forestmen's sets were 'Robin Hood' sets, two were named 'Robins Hood's treehouse' and 'Robin Hood's cave' in the UK catalogues. I did get some Wolf Pack miniifigs but since they were outlaws, in my head they were allied with the forestmen.
After watching this, I went online to hunt down my first Lego castle, the one I returned to no matter what new Legos Santa brought me... And I found it! It's the King Leo Castle (6098/6091), released in 2000. It had a large symmetrical, rectangular raised base plate with four hollow corners so you could move the four different towers around, and in the center was a taller tower, the castle proper. It had everything: catapult, traps, flying chest, drawbridge, descending gate, stained glass, skeleton figures, a horse, a queen... Despite a somewhat plain aesthetic, it was versatile in its build and super imaginative. I wonder which line of castles King Leo was part of or if it was even connected to the "lore"? The knight figures don't have any markings to signal any of the groups in the video. It seems like a stand-alone released after the original Castle was discontinued (1999) but before Castle 2 appeared (2007). Anyone else familiar with this one?
I love that this video was able to help me work out which set I was given. I must have been given or inherited the firebreathing fortress set when I was 4 or 5
My favorite is the Castle 2 fantasy reboot, I never got any sets but as a kid I always saw them in catalogs and wanted one. I especially loved the skeleton army.
I remember how jealous I was of a friend I had in elementary school for having the Black Monarch's Castle. He also had the Forestmen's Hideout, a copy of which he gave me as a birthday present. I made sure to get the Forest Hideout last year, and got such a nostalgia rush from it.
I always built my own castle for Majesto. When my son got my Legos, we built Castle Von Biggerstaff 2.0 and it was sad when we recently had to dismantle it. I can't wait to build 3.0 with my nephew!
i still have my 1978 castle with instruction book... going to pull the parts list so my five year old and I can build it, just like we are doing with my original Galaxy Explorer, i love sharing lego with my little one. she is a hell of a builder already. her first set was the 3in1 Saltwater Fish Tank when she was three.
Remember building the Fright Night's castle (12:28) when I was a young boy in the 90s. Still have the pieces mixed up in plastic tubs back in my parents' house. Wonder if I'll ever be able to reconstruct it...
If they release a castle theme that consists fully of remakes of old 80/90s sets with modern building techniques, I would def buy em all

I loved the fright knights when I was a kid, the lego magazines featuring the fright knights were lit
I feel like "bases" were always by far the best lego sets. For a kid it instant creates a platform for playing out stories and adventures.
I remember when I got 6071 for Christmas when I was 5. Loved that set, especially the river feature on the baseplate.
The castle sets in lego look really cool
Being born in 2000, I've grew up with the fantasy era and was one of my favourite lego theme with power miners, atlantis and pharaoh's quest
The funny thing is... I feel like the older sets of most things are just so much better than whatd available today.
9:52 - Good ole 6090. My favorite set ever as a kid. Got so much use out of that.
I personally used to own kings castle from 2013, I gave it away at a garage sale when I was young (so much pain). I used to love the 2013 castle series, I had so much fun with it
My parents had me sell every last lego brick and set I owned. Getting them back would be so expensive now. ugghh
That knights kingdom set was my favourite 😆so many happy memories playing with that
I was born in 1983. I had so many of these old sets. Still do somewhere at my folks place.
Keep up the great work!❤
Visually I like the Mountain Fortress the most, it looks very atmospheric!
6086: Black Knight's Castle ... countless hours spent playing with this gorgeous set !!
These sets were legendary when i was growing up. I remember my dad mentioning how his little brother had one of the castles but sold it after a few years.
My little soul was crushed
Not even mentioned Kingdoms?! I love that line.
^
For real!
I had a castle growing up, but I don't remember which one.
Lego was always a great toy to play and make up stories.
Love to see a series or a movie about these Lego knights! ^^
My brothers had some of these... This is bringing up my childhood
I think if LEGO will reintroduce the Castle theme that it will be one of the best sold themes.
Man I love castle so much.
Lego Castle was always my favorite theme as a kid, even more than Star Wars.
I'd totaly watch a series with the lego castle lore. It would be awesome
The dwarf mine castle set I managed to get back in 2022, always wanted it for years since I was a kid 🙏❤️🔥
Amazing Video, thanks 👍🏻
I love that this video was able to help me work out which set I was given. I must have been given or inherited the firebreathing fortress set when I was 4 or 5
Brings back the memories!
Didn’t realize Lego Castle had so much lore. We should totally get a video game based on this theme. Yes, I know Basil the Batlord was in Lego Racers.
My favorite is the Castle 2 fantasy reboot, I never got any sets but as a kid I always saw them in catalogs and wanted one. I especially loved the skeleton army.
The castle 2 at 12:53 was my first ever large Lego build, remember it very fondly.
Black Falcon’s castle was my fav. Got it on my 7th birthday and never looked back since then
I remember how jealous I was of a friend I had in elementary school for having the Black Monarch's Castle. He also had the Forestmen's Hideout, a copy of which he gave me as a birthday present. I made sure to get the Forest Hideout last year, and got such a nostalgia rush from it.
I just watched that whole video thinking you were gonna tell me that there was gonna be a beautiful golden knight I could add to my collection.
playing legos with the og set at my cousins really made me wish I had them as a kid, but honestly I had the lego mini figure greed lol
12:52 I had this one. Brings back so many memories
Remember building the Fright Night's castle (12:28) when I was a young boy in the 90s. Still have the pieces mixed up in plastic tubs back in my parents' house. Wonder if I'll ever be able to reconstruct it...
i got the lion knights castle this christmas and it was hands down the most entertaining build ive ever experienced
The new castle is honestly one of the most fun sets I've ever built
