I got YSS shocks for my CB1300. They started leaking a bit at around 22kmiles, but they were still under 2yr warranty. The supplier in UK(Wemoto) send replacement the next day and the new ones have been trouble-free for almost 40k. I highly recommend them.
I just fitted a yss on my bandit 1200 mark 2 ‘ it’s made a hell of a difference from the stock one and yes very easy to adjust. Good video and information. Top job
Hi Ocker friend ! My new 2022 Triumph Bonneville T120 Matt Black arrives in early February. NZ leading motorcycle shocks experts is ordering the YSS. 1700 bucks kiwi dollars. He told me it was not worth spending 2700 bucks Ohlins which weren’t going to be any better. And I am happy that you find your new shock far superior than your old one. Auckland city.
Thanks Mate, the Ohlins are a fabulous product, but are the worth the extra cash, I will probably never know. The YSS is much better than the stock shock and that's what is important. Thank you so much for your input, I think you will be very happy with the purchase as I have have been. Take care and thank you for dropping by.
Yss is amazing. I weigh 280lbs have a pcx 150 scoot, did the yss upgrade in the front forks with bel ray 15w fork oil and g series rear with the reservoir and it feels so much better going down the road. Found 18 turns from top on preload was perfect. If yss makes shocks (front or rear) for your bike get them.
Country roads can be quite bumpy, I notice it a lot on my country rides on the Kawasaki Versys X300 which I have considered upgrading the suspension. Great video.👍
Getting the suspension set up for my weight on my dirtybike and my Moto Guzzi V7 helped transform how the bikes felt. I wish we were allowed to get out and about, hopefully in March we'll have some of our movement restrictions lifted.
Good to see some real-world experience on this brand (especially on the same GSX-S1000 model as mine). I am living in Australia and the local distributor "Suspension R US" who imports YSS brand also sells Nitron shock for GSX so I am in dilemma with these two brands, to be more specific between Nitron NTR R1 (A$995) and YSS MX456W Hi-Lo (A$1250). Your reviews indeed make me more inclined to YSS despite it is made in Thailand not UK.
Thank you for dropping by, I am very happy with the performance and quality for the most part when it comes to the YSS. Having said this I have heard very good reviews of the Nitron as well. Which ever way you go, both are certainly a step up over the stock shock.
I replaced the 20 years old stock Showa shock on my Blackbird with a YSS in 2021. I used the length adjustment to raise the back a bit. I loved my bird before and now love it even more after I rode about 5000 km with it. YSS is a good value for what you pay. Would buy it again.
Gotta love SA ... I’m well happy with mid twenties 😁 ... money no object I’d go Ohlins because they look sexy as! However ... I will definitely have a chat over that coffee about your suspension man ... I’d love to get mine turned for my specific weight and riding 👍🏼
Installed the front suspension kit and rear shock on my Himalayan and it rides just as stiff as the stock to the point that I wonder if I got the wrong parts. Big waste of money and very disappointed. My mountain bike rides better. I feel like the saying "a cheap person pays twice" applies to me now. Money poorly spent.
So sorry to hear this, I did have the same issue when I first received it. I then ordered the lighter spring and it worked a treat. The original spring was just a bit too stiff for me. I hope it works out for you mate 😎
Hi good detailed review.. Just curious I am about your weight with gear on.. Did you make any adjustments after installation or testing.. Or leave it stock settings 75kg to 95kg rider standard spring as it came settings ..putting mine on MT09 Thanks
I made plenty of adjustments and used the lighter spring. Even thought I am just on 75 kg. I road tested it on the roughest roads adjusting rebound and pre load until it felt right for me. I have just released a long term review. The settings from the factory were just a little to severe, for me. Now that I have it set it is fantastic and far better than stock . I hope it works for you mate.
OK cheers thanks for the advice.. Would you say it was set to hard from when you first fitted it standard .. I think it comes as standard with lighter spring... Only issue I have the shock site way up high in the mt09 once in I don't think I will be able to get to the spring preloaded.. Mine is in transit... Looking forward to it... Thanks again.. 😁
Can't help feeling that if you'd have bought a Honda there would have been no need for any improvements! Seems like a bit of a faff to alter the suspension settings, mine simply has a knob on the left hand side to turn making shock either harder or softer. That rough road you were riding on with the tree root bumps sounded bad enough but as you said you did not like that road too much made me wonder if that was because the Suzuki was set up originally more for the sports biker fraternity so it would of course be a bit more harsh as it was designed for more, lets say, not quite sensible riding. Ride safe.
Great comment mate, yes they do come out of the factory set up with harsh settings. I think that all bikes should have suspension that is easily adjustable. I do miss the hornet as it was such an easy bike to ride. I did have to adjust that one also though. I wish I could have a couple of bikes, if I was able to I would have an adventure bike next to the gsx. Thank you for you comment and stay well. 😎
Yeah, TBH Honda generally engineer suspension to be more supple than Suzuki or Kawasaki. But they also seem to engineer a lot of the excitement out of riding, leading to some sort of automotive narcolepsy. In my experience this is great on track where you can just concentrate on your lines and laptimes, but a lot of people want a bit of character in their road bike. So, if you want an exciting 1000cc naked like the one in this video, then you don't go shopping at a Honda dealer
@@MrSlurry You know what, it's been that many years since riding a naked bike over long distances that I doubt my arms would be able to hold my ample body upright these days, what with old age and an extending girth. Also as my main 8 bikes are all Hondas now I'm worried I might not be exciting as well as my bikes. All the best and ride safe.
I set it a little on the softer side, this works well for me, most of the time. I weigh about 75 kilos. I have considered the lighter spring as it gives a plusher softer ride, the standard spring although much better than stock can be still a little stiff. I hope this makes sense.
Yes Mate you are correct, thank you for bringing it to my attention. After almost 7000 views you are the first one to correct my error. I appreciate it.
There is collar above the spring with holes that you put the rod in and twist, when the locking nut is loosed with the Allan key. Once adjusted tighten the Alan key, not too tight. Sorry mate difficult to explain with out being there. There is also a knob at the base, this will make it softer or harder also. There may instructions on line. In the video I did attempt to show how the adjustment is made. Hope this helps. 😎

I agree, most after market suspensions are a huge improvement 👍
Sure has made a big difference on mine. Take care and be well.
Early morning rides. The best. And the new shock is the cream on top, I reckon !!
Love the new shock and just love the early morning rides. I hope you are well. Take care and stay well.
I prefer every morning rides.
I don't know why manufacturers employ cheap Suspension on their bikes. The Hagons i put on the Triumph made a huge difference.
