Insecticons joined the Decepticons since Prime, It's possible beastly cybertronians were in a discriminated class that joined the decepticons. Plus the prison ship did have some ball minicons and colored vehicons.
Always kinda weird that Beast Hunters pretty much only had one "beast" (Predaking) in its main series and the Autobots mostly ran when he turned up, but Robots in Disguise was basically about hunting Decepticons with beast modes.
Well appereantly they had to use the beast hunters title cuz of hasbro. They had a whole new story and that’s why the dropped the beast hunter mid season and probably why they created only one beast
@Hector Arredondo yeah, it's kinda that. Originally, they wanted the third season to be about Cybertronian colonies and fighting pirates made up of members from the colony worlds. Aaron Archer was the head of the Transformers brand at the start of the show and became the vp of the company during season 2 with the new brand head wanting more control over the show. The show guys basically said, "we don't have the budget for all these new characters and designs you want us to do," and were basically told to do what they can with what they got. It's also why Predaking doesn't transform until episode 8 or 9
The big advantage of a beast mode is both versatility, being able to traverse more types of terrain than a robot with a vehicle mode and in the case of those with exceptionally deadly beast modes like the dinobots, the ability to fight in both forms.
Not to mention that it appears that beast modes can also eat food and convert it into energy like organic animals (at least beast era ones can) allowing them to survive in an environment without energon or some other fuel source that can be processed by a vehicle based alternate mode.

Just finished going through all of this series and have been absolutely loving it. I appreciate that you go through all the facts clearly without getting getting too subjective on what's good or bad. It's reminded me why I enjoy this franchise and given me a good list of new things to check out.
I've always hoped for western release of a penguin Transformer. (Japan had Break in Beast Wars Neo). I've always thought that the way to bring back Pretenders was to have animal shells.
Hey, have a thought for you. Back in college, my friends and I would discuss various questions over G1 topics (this was back in the early 2000s, before internet was a way of life). We discussed the female Autobots on the old cartoon, and as machines they should be genderless so why did they exist. The general consensus was that the ancestors of the Autobots were consumer goods, and that for certain jobs, e.g. teaching or watching over children, a female form might be preferred for that role. Hence, the Quintessons made female versions of their robotic servants for those who wished them. The reason why there were no female Decepticons originally is because the ancestors of the Decepticons were military hardware, and most likely there was no demand for female shaped war machines. However, there may have been a demand for BEAST shaped war machines. Part of war is demoralizing one's enemies, and as a result, some clients might have been interested in not simply robotic soldiers, but robotic beasts that could track enemies down or tear foes apart in savage combat simply for the psychological value if nothing else. This could explain why the first "primitives" or beast mode transformers were the Decepticons Ravage, Laserbeak, and Buzzsaw. The consumer goods line which became the Autobots had the female robotic servants, while the military hardware line which became the Decepticons had beast mode robots. During the brief peace that followed, it would make sense that some exchange would have taken place but that's only speculation. Please comment and let me know what you think of this theory.
Again, a perfect video to show my friends to whom I'm just introducing the franchise. A video about different artifacts and they're sometimes mystical, sometimes advanced scientifical powers would be really interesting.
I say Yay for beast modes. Will be interesting see how things will go as we have get to see Onyx Prime's presence in modern Cybertron in TF IDW comics. And it's kinda fitting for Hasbro to add Prime Master Onyx Prime on upcoming POTP Predaking set.
Something else I found interesting about beast wars is that there beast modes also allow the user to process organic matter into energy. Like that scene where Primal suggested rhinox to convert to beast mode and eat something.
The idea of beast modes always hooked me more then the other transformers except combinations. But one dino that I don’t fully remember ever being used as an alternate mode is my favorite of an ankylosaurus.
Great video! I never gave beast modes much thought at all. I sort of gave up on them after Dinobot (he was my favorite!!!!). New sub, ready for more great videos!
It’s funny, as a Beast Wars kid myself I actually really miss them shouting “Maximize!” and “Terrorize!” to transform from beast to robot. It’s actually a bit strange when you think about it (what, is it a command phrase that unlocks their t-cog functionality?), but I have a soft spot for it.

Beast Wars has been my second favorite part of the entirety of Transformers for me as a fan, especially during my childhood!.❤ First still being the minicons😂
I feel like a pretty reasonable in-fiction explanation for both the rarity of beast modes and the somewhat animalistic personalities sometimes attached to them would be that Transformers *can* scan organic life for alternate modes, just as they would machinery, but that it won't quite "process" correctly. The result of their bodies trying to "read" organic life in the same way it would machinery, and producing some glitches along the way, including the rather insufficient disguise capabilities offered by being a clearly metal animal, and certain mental effects. Would render it something possible, but discouraged outside of emergencies--at least until further advances in their evolution as a species take place. This seems like such an easy way to handle everything from "small-brained" Dinobots to more cognizant specialized teams like Predacons showing up down the line that I'm not sure why it's never been taken. Could even cover animalistic support-bots a la Ravage and co. by making their two modes part of a punishment--they were forced to scan both an organic animal and machine alt. mode, with intentionally disastrous results.
I can't believe there's actually an in-universe explanation for why cybertronian beast-bots look like our real world animals. In regards to your question, I'm actually kinda...conflicted in regards to beast alt-modes. Not in a "truck-not-monkey"-kinda way, but sorta a "how do you give them utility on modern-day earth?" kinda way. Like, for instance, without mass-shifting the most obvious way to make a robot that turns into an ant or a beetle threatening to towering robots is to make them turn into a giant-sized ant and giant-sized beetle, which basically nullifies any chance of their beast mode being used for disguise purposes. And that goes double for any bot that has an alt mode of a mythological or prehistoric creature. Just look at all the hoops that the Bee Team had to go through in order to have RID2015!Grimlock contribute to their team and _still_ keep up the masquerade for humans.
Beast modes rock! I miss Beast Wars and liked the beast modes, transmetals 1 & 2, and the amalgam beasts like Quickstrike and Silverwind ( I don't quite remember the bear eagle's name) It's cool what they are doing with the latest cartoon with having lots of beast modes.
I'm gonna feature Ukaris, Onyx Prime and a bunch of beast modes in my Transformers fanfiction. If I could have a Beast Mode, I'd like to be some kind of bird so I could fly above everything and be free.
after rewatching this again. I noticed you forgot to mention the other treatments such as Domestication, the inhumane treatment of those with beastmode turning them into pets by mentally breaking them and damaging their T-cogs and selling them off to the highest bidder
+TheHooddedMage That's only an IDW thing and not really relevant to The Basics of Transformers in general. Likewise he didn't mention how Buzzsaw infamously KO'd Omega Supreme.
Ravage actually spoked once on a episode in the original cartoon in cassette tape form inside Soundwave's chest. So they did have the ability to talk, they just didn't show it more often.
It is strange back in the G1 cartoon, the cassette TF Ramhorn was the only cassette TF beast to talk full time. Now Ravage did talk in the third TF episode, but he was speaking in cassette mode while being played inside Soundwave's tape deck chest. Ravage also talked in Beast Wars.
Honestly, I think of it like this - why do some people dress in bright colors or adorn themselves with all sorts of accessories, while others dress in plain colors and simple clothes? There are both functional and preference reasons for doing either...
i dont care what anyone tells me, or what hasbro deems as canon, i will never look at almost anything from RID or rescue bots as canon, all those different "cons" you named from RID? nope, fanfiction from some idiots within hasbro minus steeljaw, he looked awesome
"Dinosaur electrons". Still one of the weirdest examples of weird science in Transformers. What about the Beast Wars Mutants? They were beast-to-beast toys, but were presented as having formerly had robot modes.
This makes me wish they would do another beast era. Especially now after I learned that there was once plans for a third show called Transtech. (Loved beast wars and think beast machines was an ok show but could have been drastically better) For those who haven't heard of Transtech, it was meant to be a sequel to beast machines and would have returning characters from g1, beast wars and beast machines with the original g1 Optimus Prime returning to lead the Maximals and a unknown Megatron as leader of the Predacons and the two would be allies. What was interesting was that it had the characters going back to (cybertronian) vehicle modes. Examples are g1 Optimus would be a truck, the new (or either of the old) Megatron would be a tank and returning beast machines Silverbolt and Cheetor would be a jet and a race car respectively. I think they even planned for g1 Starscream to return and his new look looked awesome. I wonder what could have been had Transtech been made. (Also side note: Parts of Transtech was implemented into the comics but under new continuity. I however am more interested in how things could have been if Transtech had been part of the continuity of g1, beast wars and beast machines.) Also this video reminds me, g1 Ravage appeared in beast wars and if I remember right he was shown to have upgraded into a predacon. Except while his alt made remained the same as it was in g1, he no longer had his animal form but instead had a normal robot body and keeping his g1 head as it once was. Plus he could talk.
They could really do well having a Beast Wars video game today. It's just boring to see the vehicles so much. Grimlock is like the only Beast Mode that's been playable in a story mode in recent memory. Why not have another go at Beast Wars or Beast Machines. Could at least get a couple good games out of it.
You know it would've been cool that Transformers Prime got a better sequel than Robots in Disguise like it would be really cool we get a transformers series based on the Beast Wars series. With some of the elements that made Beast Wars a good series and with Transformers Prime's style and tone. man I would love to see how the cast of Beast Wars would look like in the Transformers Prime style and it does make me wonder if Predaking gets himself involved in the Beast Wars
I grew up on the Transformers cartoons (mostly G1 and Beast Wars), but I have even to this day never followed any of the comics. So my interpretation of beast modes is a little cursory, but follows the same general concept: it is simply a different class of mode (usually the alt mode) designed in some imitation of organic species. Though I _am_ also a little biased towards the Beast Wars era explanation, with the beast modes being the disguise of choice for whatever environment the character is deployed in. After all, if animals are the only native life available to imitate, what else should you expect?
4:22 they both sound so familiar and I never watched the old show.. the Sky Lynx guy sounds like 90% of Mark Hamill I recall reading somewhere that in some continuity, organic beast modes were an offshoot of Pretender technology. Man I'd love to see a Pangolin mode someday.
The 2015 RID cartoon never really addressed why so many of (like 95%) of the Decepticons from the prison ship were beast modes.
Insecticons joined the Decepticons since Prime, It's possible beastly cybertronians were in a discriminated class that joined the decepticons. Plus the prison ship did have some ball minicons and colored vehicons.

Beast modes rock! I miss Beast Wars and liked the beast modes, transmetals 1 & 2, and the amalgam beasts like Quickstrike and Silverwind ( I don't quite remember the bear eagle's name)
It's cool what they are doing with the latest cartoon with having lots of beast modes.
You mean Silverbolt?? And he's a wolf/eagle hybrid.
@@neovoltron25 yes Silverbolt, thanks. His face looks more like a bear than wolf.
Interestingly enough, the first ever line spoken by a Transformers character was Ravage in the G1 comic.
I'm gonna feature Ukaris, Onyx Prime and a bunch of beast modes in my Transformers fanfiction. If I could have a Beast Mode, I'd like to be some kind of bird so I could fly above everything and be free.
Japan did a lot of cool beast modes with their Beast Wars 2 line, some toys & later characters made their way to the US later.
Is there a "the basics" of the Japanese continuity on your list some time in the future?
Absolutely definitely! Not *scheduled* yet, but definitely one I'm going to do.
after rewatching this again.
I always will be surprised That Onyx Prime is a Centaur
The G1 Dino bots will always be my favorite.
10:05 talk about talking beast wars to a hole another level
This is the first basics video I watched
May you talk about the female transformers please.
i dont care what anyone tells me, or what hasbro deems as canon, i will never look at almost anything from RID or rescue bots as canon, all those different "cons" you named from RID? nope, fanfiction from some idiots within hasbro
minus steeljaw, he looked awesome
Onix Prime is basically Typhon from Greek Mythology
"Dinosaur electrons". Still one of the weirdest examples of weird science in Transformers.
What about the Beast Wars Mutants? They were beast-to-beast toys, but were presented as having formerly had robot modes.
I like RID 2015
I know everyone hates it and loves prime, but if you separate it from it predecessor and take it as it's own thing, it's great.
Who ever came up with this you were right to send this in
This makes me wish they would do another beast era. Especially now after I learned that there was once plans for a third show called Transtech. (Loved beast wars and think beast machines was an ok show but could have been drastically better)
For those who haven't heard of Transtech, it was meant to be a sequel to beast machines and would have returning characters from g1, beast wars and beast machines with the original g1 Optimus Prime returning to lead the Maximals and a unknown Megatron as leader of the Predacons and the two would be allies.
I however am more interested in how things could have been if Transtech had been part of the continuity of g1, beast wars and beast machines.)
Also this video reminds me, g1 Ravage appeared in beast wars and if I remember right he was shown to have upgraded into a predacon.
Making a game where prehistoric earth could be explored would be cool and refreshing.
Make a video on the insectacons please
We need some Transformers inspired by these prehistoric creatures in the future:
1.Dunkleosteus
2.Eurypterid
3.Mosasaur
4.Helicoprion
5.Arthropleura
I grew up on the Transformers cartoons (mostly G1 and Beast Wars), but I have even to this day never followed any of the comics. So my interpretation of beast modes is a little cursory, but follows the same general concept: it is simply a different class of mode (usually the alt mode) designed in some imitation of organic species.
Though I _am_ also a little biased towards the Beast Wars era explanation, with the beast modes being the disguise of choice for whatever environment the character is deployed in. After all, if animals are the only native life available to imitate, what else should you expect?
I LOVE beast formers especially animalistic robots in rid 2015 it's very unique to me and I love it so much.😊😊
never clicked on a video so fast! another good one!
4:22 they both sound so familiar and I never watched the old show.. the Sky Lynx guy sounds like 90% of Mark Hamill
I recall reading somewhere that in some continuity, organic beast modes were an offshoot of Pretender technology. Man I'd love to see a Pangolin mode someday.
Beast modes has always been my favorite mode for Transformers
A Basics on Ravage would be really neat
Rhinox's transformation will always be iconic to me.
I still think soundwave petting ravage is cute af
I love this type of Transformers
Transforming into Beast Modes
