Had the video completed before I crossed this particular milestone, so I'll call it out in the comments instead - thanks to everyone for 15K subscribers this weekend! :D

"My personality isn't the result of a crippling psychological disorder." When the writers call themselves out you know you've got some good folks working on a project. Hoist, welcome to my codex of transformers I never knew I wanted in my life. Great video.
Patriot Prime Reviews hoists chances to shine was the G1 animated series he was underdeveloped in the comics though the same can be said for almost every character in budianskys run on the comics and in the unicron trilogy he was smokescreen WTF!!! Maybe on the new cyberverse series we can get a cool hoist and a continuation of the animated series at some point in the near future
I've only known Hoist for 5 minutes, but now I'm going to look into him more. He's such an interesting character, if only because the idea of an Everyman Transformer is so uncommon.
this feels a bit refreshing, to be honest, I agree most characters have their personalities stand out but Hoist is kind of like the transformer equivalent of the everyday man, the "everyBot" if you will. and Congrats on the 15k Chris!
Probably the reason why i personaly like him so much. Compared to others like Percaptor, Power Glide ore Warpath he realy is just you normal Bot that just so happens to be part of Optimus Team on Earth.
Never appreciated the meta-joke about Hoist being uninteresting in the Spotlight comic. Thanks for helping me understand how much i underappreciated the poor guy.
Awesome job once again. I wondered what happened to Hoist, since he appeared and then disappeared so quickly back in the 80s. I figured he must have been one of the unseen casualties of the battle of Autobot City. Oh, for the record, during my college days when my friends and I discussed the topic, the consensus was that the season 2 Autobots who simply appeared were actually there all along. To conserve energon, several Autobots were in emergency stasis aboard the Ark, so that when they reached a world with better resources, they could be reawakened and help with the work. The new Decepticons were simply reinforcements from Cybertron. Would love to hear your thoughts on that theory, and keep up the good work.
Hoist is the Tad Strange of the Transformers universe. I imagine him acting like Spongebob from that episode where he tried to be "normal." Optimus: Hoist, we need your help to stop the Decepticons, at all costs. Hoist: *hi, how are ya?*
Now this, THIS is why I love this show! :D Taking characters and concepts from the TF franchise, which either haven't gotten a lot of love or have almost been entirely forgotten, and bringing them back to the forefront in a unique & exciting analysis :D Get work Chris! Can't wait to the next episode!
Not gonna lie, if I were showrunner for a new Transformers show, I'd make Hoist part of the core cast. Seriously, Hasbro could mandate I replace every character with Bumblebee, and I'd still fight to keep Hoist in. :) Sure, if I did that, they'd probably just fire me for refusing an executive mandate, but it’s the principle that matters, right?
I'm a big fan of Hoist too. I mostly only like the characters that don't have a human mouth. Having a battle mask is a must have to get in my favorites tier. Hoist is right there at the top of the list for the Autobots.
its messed up tho it would be cool if they could bring some of these underrated characters back like Hoist, trailbreaker, warpath, durge, skywarp and all of those characters
Still one of my favourite G1 toys. Though primarily a comic fan, I did like his personality in the G1 cartoon. He just seemed like a good bot but with being corny. I enjoyed his Spotlight. Sometimes it's nice to see a subdued, ordinary character among the bigger personalities. Great video as always. I wouldn't mind a video on each of the following: Actionmasters G1 Inferno Terrorsaur G1 Prowl Sentinel Prime Metroplex Rodimus Prime
Its funny how Hoist always seems to be a retool of Trailbreaker, but in the new Earthrise toyline, its *Trailbreaker* who's going to be a retool of Hoist. That totally flips the tables around. (btw, I love Hoist's toy. His proportions are just so lovable for some reason)
Awesome episode of the Basics, I have always loved Hoist. The episode "Hoist Goes Hollywood" is one of my all time favorite G1 episodes. I have had the G1 figure since 1986 (got him on clearance back then). Congrats on all the subscribers and I can't wait too see what you do next.
Hoist is one of those characters you just can't dislike. I know he's never really done anything, and his toy and design are pretty bland, but there's just something about him that makes you get a little excited whenever he pops up as a generic extra in the background of a group shot in a comic.
Growing up I was never a fan of Hoist until his IDW spotlight comic, where I found my beliefs and why of life was basically him. I much rather be in the background and live my life. nothing more nothing less.
This episode was a lot more fun and interesting than I expected. You should do a spin off "Basics -Spotlight" seties where you showcase a different G1 character each week. And use the regular Basics series for broader topics like, Triple Changers, Seakers, Wreckers and Artifacts of the Primes.
Lesser known g1 characters are a great topic! Serve was my first ever toy and I love how, many years later, he got to shine! I'd love an ep in him or other similar characters
Do a video on: 1. Spike and Carly (and Sparkplug) 2. Japanese only toys and shows 3. Cybertron/primus 4. Crossover transformers toys (Star wars, marvel ect)
I just got myself a WFC Earthrise toy of Hoist today for two reasons 1. He was a Shelfwarmer 2. He was only £10 reduced from £16.99 so I guess I got a soft spot for the forgotten and I love Hoist Spotlight episode from G1.
My favorite Revenge of the Fallen toy I owned, was Hoist, I always thought of him as sort of like Master Chief from Halo, tall, bulky, and having a huge (sniper/blaster) rifle. I liked to think of him as the leader of an elite group of Autobots, akin to the Wreckers, but at the time I owned him, I didn't even know what a Wrecker was, dial up internet days.
Even with all the other bombastic personalities and interesting storylines a lot of other Autobots have, I have a bit of a soft spot for Hoist. There's just something I love about him just being a chipper, friendly guy who just enjoys doing his job and doing it well.
Hoist and the other 1985 Autobot Cars got short-changed. If only, like the 1985 Autobot Mini-Vehicles or Decepticon Planes, they had persisted on both shelves and in episodes into 1986, the post-movie change might have felt less jarring.
I've always associated myself with this bot as long as I've been online. As a kid in a single parent (Divorced) family, I mostly had minibots as a kid, oh and Twintwist later for a Christmas present. Hoist however was my first regular sized bot after the minibots bought by my father, so naturally I was over the moon when he got me my first regular sized TF and I came to idolize that toy - sitting being the couch applying the decals, playing with it, nothing to do with the character though at the time. So when I finally got online in 2001 and started looking up TF communities it was the natural choice as a user name.
Awesome video they keep getting better and better and Hoist goes Hollywood one of my favourite G1 episodes and I’ll look forward to more videos in the future and you should try one about Wheeljack.
I'm a huge fan of Hoist. He is definitely in my top 10 favorite Autobots. I'm glad you did this retrospective on him. I'm glad they made a toy for him in Transformers Earthrise. I hope we get to see him in the actual Netflix cartoon in the second season.
Season 2 autobots were poorly debuted they just literally appeared, like for example there was no episode to say that they're new recruits from Cybertron
I got the Generations figure with the pack in comic. It was one of my first experiences with the IDW series and I loved it so much since the comic did amazing character work with an otherwise kind of nothing character/
Smokescreen/Hoist was my favorite character in Armada, His death devastated me as a kid and I stopped watching the show and buying the toys until I learned from a classmate that he had been brought back to life.
Armada Hoist and Refute were the first Transformers toys I ever owned. I had played with a few of my step-fathers Transformers before that, but I truly started with Armada, and Hoist and Refute were my first ones. ... I kinda miss my old Transformers toys. I am easily bored and constantly fiddling with small objects, but looking at the toys lining toy-store shelves these days is disappointing.
This calls for a smokescreen basics episode. Like the guys transitioned from a regular autobot, to a completely different character (only name) to being a prime. We need a basics on smokescreen
While i dont watch Rescue Bots i am simpley happy that Hoist get a Chance to Roul out again. He always was appealing to me maybe because we have such similiar personalaties. We both prefer to just stay in the bakground and go on with life. The Episode Hoist Goes to the Movie is also one of my favrites so i am realy happy that they made a small refrence to that in Animated.
Ah yes, Armada Smokescreen getting rebuilt into Hoist. That mattered so much, I didn't even mention the name change when I reviewed Armada a few years ago. Curiously, I felt Hoist had potential, if nothing else because of The Master Builders episode. Then again we do have Pipes, who fills more or less the same purpose in Transformers lore.
He also had a cameo in transformers combiner force if I remember... When Optimus was listing auto bots who were banned from cybertron, they showed multiple g1 bots, including hoist
"You know why you can't get a *handle* on me? Because I'm an *ordinary person.* I'm *normal.* I'm just a mid-ranking *maintenance engineer* who takes each day as it comes. I'm not particularly chatty, handsome or clever, but you know what? I get by. I *manage.* So don't *dismiss* me just because-unlike all your pals on the Lost Light-my personality isn't the product of a *crippling psychological disorder."*
... so the game transformers fall of cybertron had a green-orange-painted bot which opend a defected door in the arch so the player (as bumblebee) could progress in the very first level... He (probably) died soonly after when the grabby-thingy of the decepticon ship destroyed the wall of the hall in which bumblebee, some autobot soldiers and that kind bot were. The soldiers got "suck" into the space and the last one wast that green-orange bot - so was that "hoist"? It would make sense, since he was just in the background and trying to help his friends.
What's never addressed in the G1 Marvel comic is the fact that Hoist and the others being "copies" of Autobots means that on Cybertron there are (or were) the originals running around, as well. Assuming they're still alive in the '80s present when the copies get bodies of their own, there would be two of each of Hoist, Grapple, Smokescreen and the others, one on Earth and one on Cybertron. Or if the originals died, it would have been nice to know that, too.
I really enjoy all of your videos. I am curious about what you think we’ll see in Machinima’s Prime Wars Trilogy, Part 3: Power of the Primes. And can you tell us anything about Rodimus Cron? Thanks.
i had missed the armada episode that introduced hoist so i thought he was a completely separate autobot from smokescream for more then a decade till i got to watch hotshot and starscream working out their issues and hoist stopping hotshot from off-lining starscream
Love these transformers basics you do please do one on ironhide he is my fav and feel like he always gets forgotten about as optimus primes right hand guy not to mention always has horrible death scenes.
Nice retrospective of the character. I hope the Academy one does cool. I have to say the first incarnation with Diaclone toys that said "Wrecker" . A shame isn't one.
Shame that Hoist didn't get enough attention in Generation One as much attention as he deserved. Personally, I'm honoured to have a reissue of the G1 Hoist figure. Honestly, it was how I was introduced to G1 Hoist in the first place (never mind seeing Armada Hoist beforehand). ☺ Also, I do personally enjoy the "Rescue Bots Academy" version of Hoist. 😊
Had the video completed before I crossed this particular milestone, so I'll call it out in the comments instead - thanks to everyone for 15K subscribers this weekend! :D
Chris McFeely You're welcome, man! Hey, have uou done a Basics episode on Ratchet or Lockdown yet?

Chris McFeely can you plz do basics on titans
Congats on the 15K and if you were to do an insecticon story I expect Bob The insecticon to be mentioned
I like how the IDW comics gives characters who were normally crowd filler a chance to shine.
That’s bad for Hoist because he doesn’t want to be in the spotlight
Mega Nerd but he got the SPOTLIGHT
But in some cases like cyclonus and tailgate they f**ked em' up.
@Baseeruddin Syed there in some time of relationship. Not everyone is a fan but I could care less.
Comics don’t need to pay for voice acting

for some reason i absolutely love g1 hoist's voice. he sounds so kind and comforting
Poor Skids only ever got one episode and Roadbuster never appeared in any G1 episodes, Hoist was quite fortunate.
Awesome job once again. I wondered what happened to Hoist, since he appeared and then disappeared so quickly back in the 80s. Honestly, it was how I was introduced to G1 Hoist in the first place (never mind seeing Armada Hoist beforehand). ☺ Also, I do personally enjoy the "Rescue Bots Academy" version of Hoist. 😊
I love this channel and I'm not complaining but it weirded me out that Hoist got his own video!
