      soprano 84 I’m just now learning how to deal with the ebb & flow (no pun intended) of my cycle. When I have energy, I use that to my advantage to tackle my “to do” list and work out. When I’m hitting the lows, I go into my self care routine. It’s still a work in progress, but I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self to chart out my cycle.

    Great advice, although I think Dr Josh Axe left out the main support for pcos - exercise - it boosts insulin sensitivity, increases endorphins, regulates hormones and obviously losing weight. Speaking from having pcos myself if I slack in exercise my body begins to suffer. All these points are definatley spot on but I do think regular exercise is essential with pcos.

      Emma Silcock its important to know to not overdo it though. go at a good pace, don't dive in head first. this can cause the body to go in a hyper-stressed state which can do more harm than good.

    Thank you for talking about this. I'm 19 and i was diagnosed last year in feb with PCOS and wasn't informed about insulin resistant or about eating healthily. I didn't think it was serious since the doctor didn't provide me with much information since i'm not overweight (140lbs & 5ft5) and my cycle isn't as irregular as most PCOS sufferers. they just kept mentioning the pill (which i wasn't keen on using & i'm still not) i started researching more about PCOS towards the end of last year and found out how sever it could get and how it could cause infertility which frightened me and i honestly became so upset. I'm honestly so grateful for this video Dr. Jose Axe. This is exactly what i needed. Could you please do a video on the type of exercise and weightloss methods which would be best for for people with PCSO. i've been trying to loose weight but its really hard to do so with PCOS. i've heard some HIIT exercises aren't good for PCOS sufferers since it causes stress on the body. Again i would like to say thank you for making this video. i really appreciate it.

    I was diagnosed with PCOS in my teens. I am NEVER overweight, and I used to run 1km since the age of 6 every day until 14, and then 2km until 18. My BMI has always been around 20-22 since the day I knew what it means. Now I am 26, and I go to the gym 3 times a week and I don't work in a sit-down environment. I wake up at 7am and go to bed at 11pm. I eat 5 portions of veg and fruits every day for years, and I eat a lot of healthy lean meat as well. My work stress is manageable. My boyfriend and I would spend nights watching movies, going out for a romantic dinner, or drive away during the weekends. I love gardening and I also grow lots of veg in my garden... I live a very happy life without much financial burden. Tell me, what should I do more to have my period back again?

    • @ww905
      @ww905 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      People are like: you have PCOS, you must eat an unhealthy diet, have excessive stress, overweight, or just generally living unhealthily. I don't fit into any of those categories. My menstrual cycle was normal after 18 for many years! I almost forgot what it felt like to have PCOS. And suddenly, it came back again... No explanation. I didn't change my diet, or life style.

I feel so much better already, better focus, better clarity, less inflamation, I feel happier, my anxiety has gone way down and I lost 10 lbs. I hadn't watched this before making those changes, but I wanted to learn more about what was the best diet for PCOS and this was very helpful for feeling like I'm heading in the right direction. Also I used to have headaches and has seemed to go away.

    I just want to say.. I have a lot of respect for Doctor Axe and the other health professionals/enthusiasts I follow for doing this research and presenting it to us so simply. Otherwise we wouldn't hear of these simple life adjustments we can make to be happy and healthy ( doctors will not and do not tell us this). I can't believe I had waited so long to find out how delicious and healing my health journey could be. The stigma revolving around eating right and exercise needs to stop because I feel to a certain extent the world would be a lot better if everyone met their body's needs.

    Dr. Axe has helped out more on this video to explain how to heal my PCOS problem more thoroughly than my gynecologist here in Texas who didn't really explained what PCOS was. She just told me to diet, exercise cause I was too fat & just gave me a sheet of paper what PCOS was, and told me to take birth controls to control my acne & balance my hormones. When truth is, I tried the birth controls and it didn't work for me. I went back with my gynecologist again. And gave me different birth controls. Which STILL didn't work for me. It would make me break out more, be more emotional stress, no period, etc. I stopped going to that gynecologist because I felt that she didn't do a good job and was taking advantage of my good health insurance. So, now seeing this video I'm going to use the tips and see if it works. I'm so glad I found this video, thank you Dr. Axe!! 🙏🏻

      I've been searching everywhere for information on endometriosis about curing it and no such luck, all I'm seeing is balancing the hormones and removing excess estrogen. I'd like a video on tips for minimizing an endometrial cyst naturally without surgery. I've done some things naturally that have drastically helped with the pain but honestly if you don't continue the plan to a T ,the issues come back. I think managing endometriosis is more a permanent life style change, and people shy away from giving information bcuz it's extremely difficult to manage. if I have any great improvement with my lifestyle change I'll update you. But somethings I did to minimize the symptoms was consuming chia, flax and pumpkin seeds , I'm taking maca root, drastically minimizing my gluten intake, eating more nuts, eliminating soy, minimizing my intake of meats because in my country it's difficult to get organic meats and even diary. I eliminated diary because I have no organic source here, so I drink almond milk, I also took tumeric to help with inflammation. I also exercised daily for the two months I did that I had absolutely no pain (and trust me my monthly pains were as if my pelvic region was being hammered) I felt healthier and I lost some weight. So from my short lived method I know it can be managed, but I need info on reducing the cyst and of course endometrial cysts are more complex.

    Looking back, I started having symptoms in high school. No, I wasn’t fat yet, so that’s not what started it. My mother told me to keep track of my periods and observe what normal is for me. Great advice, especially for the 70s, but I didn’t know that I needed more information. I thought it was normal for a period to last 8-10 days because that’s how it always was. I thought needing to wear 2 pads at a time on certain days was normal. I thought 30-35 cycles was not normal for others but, since it was that way from my first period on, it was my normal. So, when doctors asked if my period was normal, I said yes. I didn’t know that getting a hair or 2 on my face was a problem; it happens to a lot of women so I just plucked them out. Of course, it started out with 1 hair in a mole and then 2, 3, 5... now I pluck daily and can’t keep up with them. I can’t take any hormones bc I had cancer. This isn’t about feeling sorry for myself, I have been blessed in so many ways, this is about being open and sharing so that you or your loved ones don’t end up being 51, no children and no hope for having a family.

    Vitex messed me up. It made my symptoms worse. I had both low estrogen and progesterone, and Vitex lowered the estrogen even more. I was aging years in weeks. Maca, however, is an adaptogen and will help everything. It is important to understand the exact hormonal imbalance, and unfortunately, traditional doctors aren't willing to work hard to identify the issue. Also, DHEA, like mentioned, will help lower cortisol so the other hormones can rise.

    Love your videos and advises Dr Axe! Following your posts on Facebook. Indeed, food is medicine, I have endometriosis and I got rid of my ovarian chocolate cyst which was 6 cm big naturally! And the symptoms of endometriosis are milder now, and slowly fading away with every passing month. I even decided to share my video, in hopes that it would help other women. All the things you have mentioned here are very true, especially when it comes to stress!

    I wish he had talked more about excess Testosterone and how to lower it. He only really talks about Estrogen and Progesterone. And yes, Progesterone will lower Testosterone but I'm talking about specifically targeting and lowering the Testosterone. PCOS affects people differently and some people have issues with high Testosterone and need to raise Estrogen.

    thanks dr josh axe i am suffering from irregular periods and this vedio helped me a lot to understand pcos

  • @amess5026
    @amess5026 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I've been diagnosed with PCOS recently, though I don't have any cysts and have never had irregular periods. I don't have insulin resistance either, just excess androgens and subsequently some hirsuitism. The diagnosis has been kind of surprising as I do not have any problems with my weight (have fallen below the healthy BMI range since my diagnosis, even), insulin, and already am vegan + a relatively clean eater. I brought up the fact that I don't really fit the criteria to my obgyn, but she's adamant it's PCOS--I asked her what I could do to try to get rid of it, and she essentially told me it was for life and put me on birth control. I still feel conflicted about this as I'm quite young, don't necessarily want to be on birth control, and can't help but feel that PCOS is being...over or perhaps misdiagnosed to people like me who might not necessarily have it? But, of course I don't know.

      a mess you should try and ask for metformin. Due to pcos and insulin resistance, we are more prone to getting diabetes and it will help with our sugar levels and help regulate your period. I’ve used birth control since I was 15 due to hormonal imbalances. I even became anemic bc I bled heavily for 3 months straight soaking every super plus tampon. I lost so much blood!! After seeing more than 5 ob/gyn I finally got one to prescribe me metformin and it has helped a lot

      Why are you going to stress over something that might not even happen? That might not even change? That might have no fixing? Not referring to getting pregnant but in general! I mean, you stressing won't fix things! What I tell myself is, if something has no remedy, me stressing won't change that. However, I will get all the physical illnesses related to stress. The main thing will be your body not working properly because you're under stress. How can your body focus on getting pregnant? If it's too worried trying to deal with stress.
