    In this video I go over how to tests and replace your fuel pump on a Honda Africa Twin. It's fairly easy to run a few quick test to tell if you have a bad fuel pump.

    When your fuel pump breaks down on a trip you can bypass the gasoline pump easy by connecting the hoses directly together. Thanks to gravity you can then use about 2/3 of your tank and continue driving.
    Helped me to get back home once on my AT RD07

      I was wondering why it didn't seem like that worked after I've read so many people said it would still go that far down with gravity. When mine messed up, while It was at the house, it was about half full but I didn't bypass the fuel pump. Because It went out at the house I didn't look more into it other than ordering one. I wonder why even with the gravity it won't flow that low through the pump?

    Yep, had the same here. I've used CSMNL a lot and it's a great service over to the UK. I actually didn't buy a pump from them, as luckily, a Honda dealer had one here at a significantly lower price, so took the saving. One thing to note, don't throw the old pump away. Typically the contacts fail and you can buy new contacts, so might be worth looking at. If it works, you have a spare for your travels. Excellent video!

    It's always good when parts break at home instead of out on the road!. If it was me, I would change the filter, as well, because you don't really know why your old pump gave up the ghost. It is entirely possible for the filter to go bad and NOT clog up, but come apart, instead. Maybe a piece of the filter's guts locked up the pump and burned it up. If it was me, especially with a bike that has discontinued parts here in the states, I'd replace the filter as well as that short hose and give a little piece of mind that you have all new parts to feed your carbs. Nice looking video, by the way! The camera work and editing makes for a nice video to watch, CC. Keep 'em comin'!

      I didn't even think about changing the filter out but definitely will get one. Thank you for telling me that. I might even simply replace it with one I can pick up from the local parts house that goes to like a lawnmower.

      Luckily the only thing I've done is cranked it up like you saw and haven't rode it so should have had anything happen.

      @@theadventurousrider I learned that lesson the hard way on a car once. Now, if I replace anything in the fuel system, I automatically wonder if a filter failure could have contributed to the other, almost always more expensive failure. A steel bodied car filter from the old days would be close to the same size and cheap and easy to replace. If it will flow enough to support a car engine, your bike will be getting plenty of fuel. That ethanol we have in today's gas will WRECK filters, fuel lines, and everything in its path.

      @theadventurousrider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tommylitchfield3450 yea I run ethanol free as much as possible.

    • @tommylitchfield3450
      @tommylitchfield3450 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theadventurousrider Most of the ethanol free around here is low octane, so imagine my happiness when I stopped in Pachuta a few weeks ago and they had 93 octane ethanol free, since my bike requires 93 octane. I tried using octane booster and 87 octane ethanol free and my scooter had terrible spark knock, so I usually just run the 93 with ethanol in it, which Harley says not to run my manual, if possible. High compression and air cooling makes the price of a fill-up go up for us, unfortunately :(

      Oops. Didn't even notice that when I was editing this. I think this was like the 2nd or 3rd time I recorded that section. Also, without going back and zooming into the original footage, I might have had it in reserve. These old school AT have a 1/2 turn with it being off, on and then reserve being in a 1/4 turn increment. But going to say that more than like I had rerecorded that section.
