  • Disassembling an engine that has run faultlessly for over 30-years, my quest to rebuild a 1992 Honda XRV750 takes me on a journey into the world of a Ducati V-Twin engineering master. Featuring Brook Henry, the mastermind behind Vee-Two Australia, a company that restores and re-engineers some of the greatest, most classic Ducati Engines ever made.

Aside from exceptional storytelling that you present I also love the old-school values that you share in your movies. Praise for craftsmanship. Respect for quality irrespective of date of product. Glad to see I am not the only one to still value these :)

LOL dream on romantic. What old-school values? To leave the engine mostly undone and dirty when rebuilding, actually not rebuilding just changing pistons and adjusting the cylinders? Something commonly done on the road in decades before, as a repair fix or maintenance, when traveling far on a fragile or old engine. Or the old-school values to stick with complicated badly measuring produced engines of italian design that require a lot of fitting alignment to make them turn when cases are closed? I’ve seen all the struggle and went through some minor of it myself with my old bikes. No old bikes are what they are, but not great, just good enough at the time. And the well done bikes of today are so much better and have to be so. Old-school values, lol. New-school precision, and new-school solid materials how about that? Sure there’s a lot of crap around, but that and more has been around then, even with the big names.
Take a Bevel-Drive and go around the world, or just for a Ride across the long stretches of dirt road Australia, you have to rebuild it from scratch to much higher standard than it has ever seen, veetoo may get it there. Even doing a big trip on tarmac, i.e. Northcape to Agadir, the italian girl with the great old-school values will go through a proper sweat. None for the 20years younger japanes, sure, but even less for any of today’s cheap transalps, T7 or whatever.
Get a bit more marmelade on your bread it sure helps living sweet dreams.

As a mechanic, I love to see this kind of videos and the testimonial of old school mechanics so full of knowledge and passion. It's one of the best feelings to rebuild an engine and fire it up for the first time and that sentiment of seeing it work like a clock it's so rewarding! Love your videos Adam, wonderful work!

In this modern throw-a-way society we now live in, you’ve demonstrated how much fun can be had on a bike that’s had 30 years to mature. You’ve given the Warhorse the TLC she needs to continue with many more adventures for years to come. You’ve shared with the community those old school vibes of learning how to do jobs from a necessity perspective; from basic maintenance, trail-side repairs to more complex tasks, all whilst showing there isn’t anything to be scared of. Learning new skills keeps our body & mind engaged.
I learnt to strip an engine & re-build it so my parents didn’t have to spend money paying labour rates before I was working. Over the past 35+ years my tool box has grown, because tools are cheaper than paying someone else. Fixing things is like therapy.
Adam, I'm already looking forward to the next episode.

I bought an XRV750 RD04 earlier in the year, it was a bit of a pup that needed a lot of work. The output shaft was shagged along with other stuff that had worn so had the engine out to start the rebuild. Replaced the output shaft, re-ringed it, carbs cleaned and balanced and so on.....runs like a new bike now and definitely a keeper.

I road raced Japanese in line fours and owned many sport bikes in the same configuration. I thought them to be superior to anything else in performance and durability, never to consider anything else. Until my banker lent me his Ducati 999S for a summer. I road on the best roads in Northern California and fell in love with the V Twin. The low end grunt and torque with an intoxicating sound to match. But more than anything combined, the bike has character. I came to prefer that soul a v twin offers and have always been thankful for my friend Charles providing the opportunity to grow.
I’m in love with motorcycles man , and the v twin is the cover girl.

Enjoyable viewing as usual. These Honda V twin engine are my all time favourite. I ran a 1990 transalp 600 for years and lots of miles. Now I have A 2003 deauville 650 because I wanted shaft drive and tubeless tyres so I can plug them out on the road. I intend on touring very far with it so I bough a facet fuel pump and a spare mosfet regulator rectifier unit the only weak Areas with these bikes the valve clearence is adjusted with screw 6 locknut but doesn't go out of sinc nor the carbs they stay in tune and With regular oil changes filters spark plugs and coolant and keeping up with the maintence schedule they keep on going. English couriers have put as much as 280000 miles on these engines. I also have a 1989 Honda Bros 650 same engine in a light alloy beam frame. My favourite engine in probably the best motorcycle frame ever made. Life is sweet.

The light you bring to the V twin design and acceleration brings to life imagination of one finding the earlier designs more competitive even with greater suspension length and the top heavier cylinders. Then it may be it's just funner to ride. Cool Bike!

Makes me miss my old Cagiva Elephant - very similar bike from the same era and also with a great engine.

Good deal. Always remember not only your efforts but the help of the others who care and like to see you succeed. It will last longer that way. Looked like new inside.

Great entertainment and sound-design holding the acrapo hole closed. Nice to see the Big Ducati Heart active still, wonderful work he’s done over the years. Only very few ducati-puzzle masters around that can make that box of pieces sing powerfully.

Brook Henry is a modern day Burt Munro the passion these guys have for perfecting builds is astonishing. I mean how can go at something for decades and not burn out?

ABC TV here in the west did feature article on Brook, I just googled "ABC TV article on Brook Henry" It is headed "Ducati master re-creates Mike Hailwood's Isle Of Man-winning motorcycle and engine parts in tiny WA town"
