Good video, solid info. Couple points: SM recommends new crush washers AND drain and fill bolts, as well as new oil pan bolts. For the oil pan, the four corner bolts are tightened in a "mostly" cross pattern - rear passenger side bolt first (this is bolt 1) > front driver side bolt second > rear driver side bolt third > front passenger side bolt fourth - then return to rear passenger side (bolt 1) and work left in a clockwise direction tightening each bolt. (Temporarily tighten the bolts, then Torque to 70 in-lb in the pattern described.) Procedure found in TM service manual, page tm-193 (2015 QX80)
Thank you for this video! I've got a 2020 Armada and I tow a 3500lb overland trailer. I will definitely make sure to periodically do these flush and fills more often.
very interesting that it took 5 spills to get it to that point. kind of ridiculous. I did a single spill and fill last night but I guess I’ll just start doing a monthly one. it already is shifting better though. 2017 Titan 136k and also mixed 2 quarts of Lucas with the Valvoline max atf
Thank you for the great vid..so: Transmission Filter: Raybestos 515785...does this need a gasket? the website does not show a gasket..when you replaced the filter was there a gasket..please and thank you.
Appreciate the video. I try to maintenance my own vehicles. Just changed the starter, and plugs, and it was a bear of a job. Called my local Infiniti dealership, and they quoted $488 +tax for a transmission service. I'll be doing it myself. Thanks for a great diy video! One question. I bought the vehicle at 95k miles, it has 107k now. Its it safe to change it, or do you think it will cause issues?
For posterity, the service manual specifically states to drain the atf fluid until it starts to drip (occurs after a steady flow stops). Then reinsert the drain plug. If you leave the drain plug out for days, additional fluid will continue to drain out.
Hi and thanks for your vid. Up to now how has the Valvoline been so far. Im hesitant on using it but would love to. When it comes to lubes i dont think the dealer is up to par with their own. Thanks in advance!
Do you need a new crush washer on the drain only or on the fill plug too? Did you need any RTV to hold the pan gasket in place while you installed it? Thanks in advance.
My truck has a slight shudder on incline with low rpm sometimes when cold..no sliping.. drives great on highway. Do you think trans flush will be ok....just broke 100k
I would try it. It likely will help and only a very small chance that it makes the problem worse. Hold on to your old fluid, worst case, just put the old fluid back in.
@Luso Overland thanks....did you ever have any problems with the valvoline fluid. I'm skeptical to use with the sticker on engine bay saying any fluid other than nissan matic will cause damage
@@luso_overland Hey Luso, I think my transmission does great but I kind of feel the similar hesitation, 85k miles, and no info in terms of fluid changes in the past. You now make me worried about not changing it at all.. Do we use whatever in it and risk it for the rest of its life? Please advise because I was thinking we are able to change 1/3 of the entire fluid anyway and it should get used to little-by-little, increments of refreshing the fluid over the course of changing it like 3 times. I'm really lost rn. Also Mark, what did you end up doing? How is it doing now, miles, changing interval, sticking to matic S or aftermarket? Many thanks!

Thanks, this is very useful, just bought an Armada and want to replace the transmission fluid.
Great video explains everything thoroughly. Thank you

Yes, it’s a very silly design
Great video, Luso !
Do you have the link for the filler tool? Thank you. Great job.
Yes, checkout the video description. Thx
about to do this on my 2017 armada - thanks!
Good video alot of info with out the bla bla bla
Glad you liked it!

Nope, no gasket.
@@luso_overland Thanks so much for the rapid response. btw Why do you feel that the Nissan matic s is "part of the problem" please? thanks in advance.
How has the the Valvoline transmission fluid been holding up? I’m a bit Leary of using non-OEM fluid in this critical part.
shifting great so far.
That Jaco OEM fluid is part of the problem.
What did you torque the bolts around the pan to? Tnx
70 inch pounds (5.8 ft/lbs)
Thank you

Don’t you want the temperature thermometer to read 94° since it’s 10° lower. If it’s at 114°, wouldn’t the fluid be at 124°?
Can't remember, the exact details but you get the idea.
Yes he's right.
I thought i was going crazy when i heard the pan temp. thought i missed something. 94 degrees it is!
How many qts did you get out on the first drain? My 2011 qx56 just drained 7 qts. Been parked for a couple days.
3-4
Wow. This was dealer maintained with records and it almost overflowed out of my 7 qt drain pan
@@salg8878 thats exactly how mine was when we used a 5qt catch can 😂

Thanks in advance.
Correct- crush washer on drain bolt only and do not use any rtv on the oem or any metal style gasket.
What scan gauge are you using?
Scan Gauge II: amzn.to/3SD9kvo

@@markkrimmel829 no, so far so good.

@@markkrimmel829 Hey mark, pls see below comments/questions. Cheers!
How did you know you needed to do fluid change
There was no record of a full service ever being done and the trans was shifting a little weird.
What’s the scan gauge you are using to check the temperature?
It’s called the “Scan Gauge II”
How did you configure the ScanGauge to read the 7 speed temp? Do you have the PID info and config?
You’ll find directions on how to program it on the ScanGauge website and there are TH-cam tutorials.
hows it shifting without matic s fluid? my local dealer is quoting $15/L cad and 10L total.
Great, waaaay better than before. I’ve also heard good things about the Idemitsu brand fluid
Eneos ATF Model N is another one you can use. They make the Nissan Matik S, so it is exactly the same. The bottles are even identical.
I agree that these transmissions are junk. My 2018 Nissan armada y jerking when I step hard on the accelerator. It doesn’t shift right.
Nrver chsnge transmission oil u going to mess transmission just add new oil if low my personal experience
