    Thanks for the review. I made one out of necessity when my yard was full of fallen branches from an ice storm. It definitely saved my back over those few days

    Interesting. I was online searching for something to pick up firewood due to a current injury where bending is a problem. The search brought me to this video. I think this will also help with avoiding Copperhead snakes which I find too.
    Good video. I am ordering.

    Nice video. Thank you. I've been cutting and splitting since I was about 20 years old. 60 now, and just stumbled onto this, and was not aware that there was such a tool. Gonna have to make or buy one of these, as I'm into a lot of sticker bushes, and just for skidding would be very handy, and a lot easier on the bod.

      +Mick Mcloughlin Thanks, if you buy one of these, please comment back with your thoughts. I was using mine recently to clear out cut logs from the weeds. It works great.

    Excellent video Mark after watching went out and ordered me one (blue color) but as you noted the same item. Old here now and never knew such a handy device was around. It sure makes it easy to handle wood without bending over and I love it..LOL never thought about getting old one day really and how our physical attributes change so much when it comes to tasking jobs requiring effort physically ...well worth money would pay much more if need be for this tool. Thanks

    I have been splitting wood since I was 12 (I am now 51) but never saw one of these. Looks like a back saver. Good info and video!

      Thanks Jim. I think once you use it a little and get the feel for it, you'll always keep it nearby when splitting wood.

    Mark - do you know where I can order replacement tips for this tool? I could only find this and the tip is a tad different. Great video. And having a good grip is so important. This tool requires EXTREME care! I found out the hard way when I hit a knot.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ordered an extra tip directly from Logrite a few years ago. I didn't have the proper tool to pop out replacement tip, so my dealer that I bought it from did it for me. I forget the name of the tool needed for removing the tip.

    Your video sold me. I have wondered if this would be helpful to me. I cut a firewood, as well as clean up my woodland. One of the painstaking jobs is older wet logs that are laying flat on the ground.
    I have started using Huglekultur to fill in ravines, stagment water holes etc, so need to get those downed wet logs or limbs to the Huglekultur pile, hole etc..seeing you drag that log was the selling point.

      @MarkThomasBuilder  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +suffolkshepherd That great to hear! Thanks for commenting. The hookaroon should stick into those downed wet logs with ease. Please comment back after you try it out.

      +markthomasbuilder It came at the first of this past week. So i had to wait until the weekend to try it out. Excellent. This is one of those items I cannot help but to keep thinking "I sure wish I would have bought it 10 years ago" . I mainly wanted it for dragging dead logs that were wet and or rotting, but I found more uses.
      1: Dragging logs/branches out of the creek.
      2: unloading from the pickup this Pickaroon is a huge help. I unload almost the entire truck load without climbing up into the bed of the truck. Instead i pull the firewood back towards me. I now only climb up into the truck for the last bit up by the cab.
      3: When the tops of trees fall into a thicket, brush or briers, I cut the rest of the tree, then drag out the part in the brush with the pickaroon.
      4: I did use it to pick up firewood and can see where it will save the back fatigue but jury still out on that one

      +suffolkshepherd Thanks for giving an update. You make a good point about dragging the tops out of the brush and briers with the hookaroon. I always bring it along in the woods.

    How much was it? I made one out of some gas pipe, a broken ax handle and an old bolt sharpened to a point. It actually works quite well. Great review!!!!

      @MarkThomasBuilder  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love2boat92 I recall the price was close to $50. This tool is a must when I'm out with the chainsaw getting firewood. Thanks for the comment!

    • @Lanninglongarmmowing
      @Lanninglongarmmowing 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** That's not a bad price. I was looking at them on eBay and they're so expensive. Like anywhere s from $50 to like $175. Lol. That's WAY to much to spend for me. I have a funny feeling this tool I'm going to be using a lot. I have to be careful for sure though. It is pretty dangerous. No problem.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love2boat92 The Logrite brand has held up great for the 5 years that I've owned it. It can be a dangerous tool if you're not paying close attention when using it. If you're using it to skid logs, I recommend making sure the tip is buried in the wood deep enough so it won't accidentally pop out when you start pulling. If you're careful, you'll be fine.

      ***** That's a long time to own a tool like this without it failing too much. This tool is probably something I shouldn't use when I'm not at my prime such as tired etc. I probably won't use it to skid logs. Just to pick up rounds and move to the trailer.

    Howcome it says stihl on it when it's s logrite brand? Are they affiliated? Hope this isn't a really dumb question.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it a good question. Logrite made these orange ones for Stihl at the time I bought it. They are exactly the same as the blue one except for the Stihl label and different color. It seemed to be a private label agreement.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder

      It's made by Logrite, but finished in orange for Stihl. I think they only did that for a year or so. Now, I only see blue Logrite hookaroons.
