  • The Volkswagen Golf has been a household name, and the hatchback of choice, for as long as anybody can remember. Is this latest eighth generation version fit to lace the boots of its predecessors? Or is it trying a little too hard, and failing in some key areas?

Less bits of plastic to creak and rattle minds feels solid no annoying noises like I had in mk7 and 7.5 from the dash, infotainment system is easy to use more so if you create shortcuts to drop down screen, like te auto start stop etc handling is better in the mk8 and dose t feel as fidgety over bumps the 16”s help with torsion beam, doing just under 40mpg, feels nippy and have never felt lacking in power even with the 1.0 110 quiet and refined lots of short journeys, was disappointed I never had auto folding mirrors bit of a surprise I suppose I can live with 😦 albeit very happy

Probably why he had to deal with infotainment lag... First year was shocking for that issue.

With so much modern technology wrapped up in the golf ,any accident could write if off due to the high costs of repairingor replacing the technology let alone the bodywork

The Update to "fix" the terrible infotainment system actually has actually broke my Golf MK8, the Garage tries Multi times to "fix" it. Mechanically its great, the infotainment system wasn't really needed!

Why do car reviewers hardly ever show a car with the back seats folded down?
    Very frustrating!!

I wouldn't buy this, due to the ridiculous over complicated infotainment.
Golfs used to be solid simple, easy to drive, but no longer unfortunately.

Still 5he go to? The mk8 was and is a huge disappointment, it’s a great engine ruined by poor interior that is a not one but two gens backwards step in quality, vw stop you from choosing a light interior on anything but match , the infotainment is seriously poor, even the updated id3 that I was fortunate to get a hands on still doesn’t make the grade it’s again not fast enough or easy to navigate without having to dive through submenu after submenu, and still no night elimination for the infotainment, coupled with a year long waiting list it’s getting a bit ridiculous on the parts waiting list

I have just bought a brand new golf auto (style) and its the worst car I have ever driven. The good thing about it is the colour. On a test drive, with a similar car it was good, that's why I bought it. I've just paid £32000 for a diabolical, most crappy car I have ever owned. It's appalling, total crap.

same. i have a golf style 23 plate. i had a bmw 1 series 71 plate automatic which ended up written off. so i thought to have a change and regret it since day one. i test drove a similar car and it did feel different to the golf i have. i brought the manual which is worse off. absolute rubbish
