Gday everyone and welcome back. Today i decided to challenge myself to a fishing challenge. Its been a little while since my last challenge video, so it was nice to finally get back out there and challenge myself. I wont spoil the video too much but it ended up being a cracker day!!

Rod - Some random, 4 foot 2, 2-4kg rod
Reel - Some random 200 size reel
Lure - Zman Crusteaz
Line - 6lb fluorocarbon
I only discovered Josh a few weeks ago. Still can't believe he has a licence, dude looks about 13 years old :-D. Great videos mate, love your work.

@@joshdfishing Enjoy it while it lasts. I was asked once what's the difference between being younger than 20 vs older than 30. I told them younger than 20 you can get hurt and walk it off... older than 30 you have to start admitting it when you get hurt and it's harder to walk it off. HA.

Hey Josh, just a challenge idea.
Go to the lure bargain box in the store, close your eyes and pick a lure out at random and thats the only lure you're allowed to use.

Excellent video as usual Josh. First time I used those plastics was in Merimbula NSW… I used it as a bottom lure with a jig head with the weight in front so the lure would stand up on the bottom like a defensive crustacean with the claws pointing upward. Landed Flatties, Pinkies, Whiting and Bream. What a challenge…might not need “high end gear” but it sure beats managing problems…..sometimes the experience of the angler can make some gear look and perform better than other anglers. Love your generosity…..the little girl will forever remember this day.
Great video Josh hope lots of parents see this and appreciate how cost effective This sort of fun can be for the kids .

After fishing with rods that are *less than* 3 foot long for 2.5 years straight, it's surprising how much of an advantage you gain just going up to a 4.5-5 foot rod. It really makes you appreciate the enormous amount of leverage and control a 7-foot+ rod can give you. There are shorter rod blanks out there that will give you much better feel and action but then you're looking at a self-built custom rod in those short lengths. If nothing else that could be a neat fishing challenge for you. I can get solid glass ice rod blanks for $7 a pop. Not sure if they'd be easy to come buy from an AU source though.
Upgrade the reel on that kiddy rod to one of those budget Shimano FX (they're $19 over here) it might be a pretty sweet little combo.

Awesome videos, great channel always fun to watch and makes me hang to get out there more. You've convinced me to try lures more, never had any luck with them in the past. Would be great if you could do a noobs guide, maybe talk through reel, rod choice, what lines to use, use of a leader etc?

Joshy mate, I was struggling to get some fish however you've helped me get attempts for closer. If it wasn't for the flopper method my life would be in shreds, I would of had no purpose and my mental health would have a downwards spiral. Keep up the good work and keep getting those fish.

Yeah I thought this video would be a good idea for the people that don’t want to spend hundreds on flashy gear. And just want to have a go at fishing :)
And yeah I was very surprised how many fish I actually managed to get onto🤣 and it was only the right thing to give that little one the rod and reel. She will put it to better use than I will👌🏼 and hopefully that might start her fishing addiction

Great to see some fish caught on those zman crusteaz. I bought a few packs on special thinking they looked great for the price, hasn’t produced for me yet. But I don’t hate the way they look in the water.
Yeah they actually swim well in the water. I think they don’t catch much because of the body shape and the fact the legs keep wrapping around the hook 😕 but I still managed to get into some cracking fish!

50 yrs ago when I was your age we could only afford reels of that quality. First thing you did was take the drag washers out and refinish the metal washers with wet and dry sandpaper a drop of oil and a flat sheet of glass. Improved them no end when the drag breaks easily the whole rig feels so much better.

Great video Josh! Was very surprising to see that setup actually catching some decent fish. I’ve just bought a Legalis 2500 and looking for a rod to go with it, my dad has a 7’0” 2-4kg ugly stick gold that he said he’d give me - I think it’s a fibreglass rod though… would it be any good for the styles of fishing you do? (Soft plastics and hard bodies/surface etc)
