I just love a young man like this talking about "back when I was a kid". I'm not being mean, I remember those days pretty well myself. The terrifying part is how fast the years go once you get out of school and such. Good onya Josh!
Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
G’day Josh, what a great challenge mate. I’ve done similar myself years ago when I first started fishing with lures and results were very similar to yours. I do love using lures. Great video mate, keep them coming.
Another fantastic video Josh! Nice concept of bait vs plastic. I'd expect the live bait in particular to outfish the plastic, but personally prefer using the plastic due to ease of availability and not having to preserve the livies. Actually, I'd be happy just to go fishing again now that restrictions are being eased........yipee!!
Yeah I had a couple people suggest doing a bait vs lure challenge. So I thought I’d make it happen ;). And I also like you said prefer how much more convenient lure fishing is. Just pack your stuff in the car and go. No worry about getting your bait and what not
Josh, stumbled across this video quite by accident, so glad I did. Love the cinematography, commentary and overall ethos. I think you're going g to go far, I hope my sub contributes to your future success.
Hey Josh, I fish bottom in Alaska If I need to put my rod down by choice or otherwise, I have a leash about 3 foot long with a clip to hook into the rod eye, tying the rod down. It prevents any rod loss. Anything worse than losing a big'un is to lose your gear too.
been waiting for some bait in a while now! though your vids actually made me get back to trying lures again lol👍 btw at 4:18 all that stuff on the ground is samphire- you can eat it and its really good if you want to do catch and cook
Amazing yet again love your challenge videos. I know I have asked in a previous video but any chance of a light tackle talk and lures u use light tackle fishing and medium set-ups
@@joshdfishing yeah would be interesting but I think allot of people would like to see your main 10 rods and reel combos and what lb line is on them and what u use them for and the lures u use with that set-up yewww
forget briggsy and hitzke and nev or gido i look forward to your videos now much respect to you, keep it up and watch out for snakes now its warming up, just saw that you are aware of snakes keep looking
Farkkk man what a legend🤙🏼🔥 and yeah I’m gonna get a snake bandage thingy for bass fishing. When I’ll be doing treks in the bush. Better too be safe than sorry aye
Josh, a great way to spend a day - as you said the big problem with bait fishing is the inhaling of the hook making a release really difficult. I have been using Gamakatsu Shiner hooks - mainly size 2 and 2/0 - and have found that not only are they a great shape for baiting with yabbies but the shape of the hook has resulted in better than 90 per cent of the time hooking either in the corner of the mouth or through the bottom jaw. The are easily removed and make for little harm and an easy release.
Ive swapped predominantly to circle hooks for the same reason, too many fish hooked in the guts and I like to release all mine. Great vid mate, keep em coming
Yeah I’ve had a couple people tell me to use circle hooks. But at the same time if they get swallowed they do even more damage then the hooks that I was using do.
@@joshdfishing The main issue with circle hooks is finding one that's designed well (or correctly) and getting as close as you can to the size that's just right for what you're targeting. Its made even more of a pain due to the fact that there is no size standard. A #4 in one brand can be a #8 in another. Sometimes that #4 can be physically the same size as a different brand's #2 on the other end.
Hi Josh, hope you didn't have too much back or hammy pain next day after pumping them yabbies,my question,I noticed you didnt have a swivel on the bait set up and just had running sinker to hook, what's the reason for this please?also did you try putting the live yabbie on a jig head?
Gday Shannon. I was lucky enough to have no muscle pain the next day🤣 and I used a running sinker because I was lazy hahah. I usually would use a swivel but yeah. Got lazy with it.
Great session mate! Gotta say though, big difference between live yabbies and frozen prawns from the servo though 😅 That was a nice flattie on the plastic too 👌
Great video mate. Can you tell me what area you are fishing? I would like to find somewhere to fish where there are no people because most of the places I go to fish, every man, child and their dog are there. Thankyou
That hook's a Straight Shank J hook, if you still read old comments. Also this blew my mind a bit, forst you said "used to come here when I was a kid" and I was thinking "that's funny, like a 14 year old lad talking about when he was a kid." Then you got in your car and I had to tell myself "sit down Dog, before you say something else stupid."
hey josh, I’ve been getting really unlucky with the flatfellas but coming into warmer months I think I’ll get a couple more, what would be ur best and most reliable lures for them. Also congrats on 2k subs 🥳
Hi Josh I am wondering if you could tell me what the program is that you use for Tide and weather is you showed in this Video. Keep on fishing like your vids you do. Kim
Hi Mate, re the Petrol Station Lures, you can sharpen the hooks with Diamond coated Needle File, a set of 8 in a plastic wallet is around 9 or £10 GBP. Or buy a small pocket size sharpening stone!!
Josh do you think using a plastic in a lighter colour it might have been a better result for the plastic or a motor oil colour But that was such a great challenge Thanks .👍
More than likely. You can’t go wrong with the motor oil plastics. I wanted to use a yabbie lure since I was using a yabbie as bait. Tried to keep it as similar as possible👌🏼

Another excellent video. Well done. Bait has some benefits over lures obviously it’s natural. But you can get pestered by rubbish fish example toads A well worked lure rarely gets rubbish fish. I recently to my surprise caught a flounder on soft plastic he also in hailed it deep , After removing the plastic he was not too good but after about 20 minutes he swam away. How did you flounder recover ?
Yeah that’s another thing aye. With lures your really cutting out the amount of little fish catch. But with bait you can catch anything of any size :( and yeah if I’m gonna be completely honest. I got caught up in everything and forgot about the flounder ahah I landed a flatty right near him and he wasn’t there. So I’m gonna guess it swam off🤷

Another top vid Josho.... I find bait you will always catch heaps but not many of good size and with lures mainly of top size but maybe not as many🤙
A bit of prawn from the gas station gets a good brim Josh. Where do you fish in this video??
Good auditing of the video - well done. How does a young man like you has money for "stradic" reel :), Good stuff.

I might do that as a short vid because I’ve had so many people ask. I might do it when I get myself a bait caster setup for bass👌🏼

I've got two of those Tempesta VXS rods. 6'6 ultra light and 7'0 ultra light, both with 2000 sized Daiwa reels. Great little rods for the price.
Yeah they are good rod in my opinion. It was my first proper lure fishing rod and I’ve pulled in some bigggg flathead on that setup👌🏼 works a treat
Love your videos. What is the first fish activity app you are using? I do not know that one and it looks interesting.
Thanks mate :) and the app is called fishing points
nice video mate i havent pumped nippers in a hot minute. Out of curiosity what app are you using to indicate fish activity?
Pumping those yabbies really took me back to my roots 10-12 years ago pumping them with my pop

How did the flounder go? Great vid mate!
What site or app did you use about the fish activity? Good vids btw , very inspiring
