Brilliant as usual buddy. Drone footage was really cool. That took me back to the late 1970s when I got my first fishing rod+reel combo at 6yr old, a wee 5ft Shakespeare rod and matching reel. It was an offer on the back of kellogs cornflakes packets, you collected coupons and sent them away with a few £ p+p. I still have them and occasionally use them just for the fun of it. Over the course of the past 44yrs they've caught thousands of Mackerel and a fair few sea trout. Ah memories 😊

@@ShroomFishing It's a collectors item with that led flash so she found it hard to see it go. You should try fishing the nepean for trout sometime when the water calms down, I've been there myself and seen trout caught.
Considering that rod is designed for bait fishing. You can catch some fish for sure with a pack of $2 hooks and $5 prawn. No need of sinker and swivel.
Skeediees, as I chose the budget to be $50 as a nice round number. It allowed me to pick one item from each aspect that would be important to me for lure fishing specifically. I probably wouldn’t have needed braid or leader if I was doing a bait fishing video. I felt braid was essential for lure fishing also because of how short the rod was at 5 foot.

Tomorrow there will be a conga line of prospective fisherman at the K-Mart self serve check out paying for their $48 Shroom fishing Combo. This challenge shows that perseverance is the most important part of fishing.
Thanks Mal! Perseverance is what saved my challenge there and all that filming throughout the whole day. I actually think that combo is a pretty decent starter now that I think of it. Tie on some proper lures and I could see this being viable
Just about all my fishing gear is from Kmart. The only exception is the graphite lures rods and reels that I bought elsewhere but waited till they were cheap as. Edit, the last spot where you were, walk to the end of that where the grass is and toss a line out there as well Plus it's a popular and productive spot for bass and carp. I did a video of bait fishing that spot, 11fish in an hour. All went back.
That’s it Dave not a bad place to get some affordable gear. It won’t be the greatest gear, nor last a decade, but you can certainly catch plenty of fish. Had a combo like this, one that I started fishing with, so many good memories. It was just a tough day in general. They knew the challenge was coming and the fish started hiding. 🤣🤣
Keen to know what the braid is like. If its fishable I'm going to use it. Good braid is so expensive. What colour braid do you recommend for your trained fish? (I notice u purchased yellow and yellow is often the cheapest for some reason). It may have tangled due to the cheap spool. Please let me know on a scale 1-10 about the cheap braid? Truly some of the best trained fish in the industry. Thanks Shroom for all your work.
I haven’t used the braid for that long, but it seemed quite decent. I didn’t have any issues except for the tangles which was probably due to the reel itself, rather than the line. I would use it again. Maybe a 7 out of 10

Garry, yes, it was certainly difficult to use, considering the equipment that I came from! The biggest problem was the braid ending up, tangled inside of the drag knob

Honestly, Justin, the reel felt smoother than I thought it would be. That was the most surprising bit. It was very clunky But realise that cost more usually have that fuel as well. I thanks for the kind words. I’m glad I came through in the end! 😎
It felt smoother than u thought it would be because it was the deluxe $15 model complete with disco lights, so you could fish and party all through the night!!
I bought my kid that same rod, he insisted on it because of the blue flashy lights. It’s caught a few fish, but I wouldn’t recommend it, even for 15 bucks. Haha

If paddle tails like that with stiff tails what u can do is cut small slits into the bottom of the tail wrist halfway up to free the tail up

My first rod was a red rod from bigw it was pretty solid and lasted me 5 years
Nice one, I still have some old combos but they don't see much use these days but a good way to get into fishing

I bought my kid that same rod, he insisted on it because of the blue flashy lights. It’s caught a few fish, but I wouldn’t recommend it, even for 15 bucks. Haha
