When I worked at Subaru all the new cars on the lot had dents on the above the door handles just from people opening and closing the door Subarus have the thinnest door skins and bonnets
Damn, this just shows the magic of youtube. In the first video this car looked mint, and now when you show all the flaws close up you see the reality. I have a 99 GC8 STI V5, from 3 meter distance it also looks mint, but actually has dings all over it just like yours. Mine also has quite a bit of surface rust underneath, but nevertheless, I love it. But I wish I could have bought it couple years earlier, when prices were less than half of what I paid.
Same as mine😂 but all rust been done just before winter I'm in the uk ...ill be painting when summer comes back but got to love Previous owners "mods" 😂..only paid 1k 4 years ago
"Start fixing some shit"! I am loving it, get rid of that ridiculous rear wing. The low version you showed looked the business. Cheers, looking forward to the next video.
Standard GC8 things, once you get them sorted and spend some time with it, you'll get what it's all about. There is a recipe for reliability with these things to. If you want ok power (300kws) and reliability it's doable. (207 short block, e85, 6speed) tldr version. Goodluck.
Really enjoying your wrx progress, in august boght one too, its perfect condition, but sun damaged paint and dismounted engine. Lots of work, but ill be worth it. Btw keep it up your content is really cool.
If you're gonna get rid of the clear indicators and swap to amber then probs get rid of the JDM tail lights to keep the theme. Do one or the other. I personally prefer the clears.
To get rid of the light flickering I can remember reading something about it to do with time zone in settings on the go pro. love the content by the way
Awesome car bruv👍 too bad the previous owner didn't look after it, I'm sure you you can get it back to original just like the Evo & definitely looking forward to the WRX restoration.... 3 awesome dream car's
Amber corners as far as I know are aftermarket only, the only amber ones were the USDM ones with the little orange reflector bit. As for the wing, tbh just buy one and find out whether you like it or not. Also the whiteline bits are a roll centre kit, because many subarus are monster trucks stock geometry gets fucky when you lower them.
Honestly i prefer this over a vl. As cool as they are everybody does the same mods to them. Rather see you replace parts than building something that has been done multiple times. Its only a matter of time until these cars skyrocket in price and those in good original condition are what is going to be worth big $$$ just like what has happened with the old holdens
One of the most satisfying jobs is to remove all aftermarket stuff from Japanese classics and take them back to factory, I've done more cars than I can remember and it never gets old 😬. Oh and you def need a GT4 Celica in that garage 😜
Wow I can’t believe how much is wrong with it and damaged considering how immaculate the previous owner said it was. Hope you didn’t pay his asking price.
I think from memory there is a plastic plate behind the flywheel that used to crack and leak oil. I think they modified it to a steel one or it was replaced as due coarse if the box and rear seal gets done. I think it covers one of the access holes for the gudgeon pins but i can't rememberĺ. Im sure you are aware of the head gaskets leaking oil. It's no big deal. Subaru life. Subaru techs get these engines out in under 40 minutes. So no job is a nasty as people may say
Take off that high spoiler and put on a low one and remove the tints ..this alone will make it a hard looking impreza 😎 trust me high spoiler on a 4 door is a no no
The door armrest. When you take the door card off, youll see the armrest section was held in by these plastic rivet things, almost looked like they were melted on. In any case, you can carefully drill these out and make pilot holes into the 'stand-offs' on the armrest which the plastic rivety things attached to, and you can use some screws (ones with threads to self tap into plastic) with a washer on the head and you can re secure it from behind to the door card into the armrests standoff tubed/screw mount threads so to speak. Hard to explain take a look and if you need further clarification let me know, i should have an old photo from years back when i re attached an arm rest to a card on my old gc8. Its almost as though the armrests were supposed to have threads for screws in those areas and they decided 'fk it, lets use hot glued plastic rivets into those threads instead"
Everything OEM is best in my opinion. I love the way mine looks in full stock form! I wish you had bought mine frome me! Its exactly what youre looking for
So back to WRX spec minus STI engine parts gearbox and wheels and brakes... I liked the STI theme maybe STI steering wheel and seats refurbished/new wheels and keep rear wing...
I have a set of them rims mate with no Tyre's but way better condition, they were of my bugeye and do not have any more just kept them rims as top condition and not after covid prices, shame I'm in NSW mate. not show rims but good nick for age. Love the car doesn't look like to serious damage I'm sure you can sort it over time :) nice car mate.
You make awsome videos brother. But u should have stuck with the vl. And created a modest low cost build. Full n.a engine. Low boost. Would of seen 300 kw at the tyres with a set of arp head studs. I know the vl is really what u wanted. Any we got underbelly get away car. Anyways here we go 😁
These dents are from the abundance of rude selfish people in Melbourne. I sit in my car plenty in carparks waiting and pickup up family members. And the way people need to commando roll out of their cars when they see you....if you weren't there those doors would be pressing up on your paint.....Those pedals lol. The were the craze at one stage. GIve the strut brace a sand and paint, or wrap it. Not worth changing.
Subarus are made out of tin, the small car dents will show, when I bought my wrx it looked good from far but up close you I can spot almost a dozen dents
When I worked at Subaru all the new cars on the lot had dents on the above the door handles just from people opening and closing the door Subarus have the thinnest door skins and bonnets
Pleeaase dont change the rear wing. The "STI" wing looks sooo much better than the standard pov spec wing.
Disagree
im 50/50 on it at the moment
Nah go stock wing. Keep it OG
Stock wing 👌
Stock OG

The tail light seals are also a big source for boot water leaks! Check the tail light seals
Is this Devi old GC8, featured on Clay Wong youtube channel?
Awesome car bruv👍 too bad the previous owner didn't look after it, I'm sure you you can get it back to original just like the Evo & definitely looking forward to the WRX restoration....

That's the plan!
Least you have the skills and contacts to fix this.. Makes for good content. Glad it's you not me trying to bring this thing back

would you have bought it knowing it had these issues? keeping in mind some are just wear and tear, expected etc
If I knew about the sil panels no I wouldn’t have
Nice GC8, got one myself the front and rear mould on the window on the top very expensive. Make sure you get OEM aftermarket don’t fit

Unfortunately the downsides of 20+ year old cars. Still a great car if you put in the effort. I love mine. Keep the vids coming 👍

throwing junk in the bin is a hobby of mine
I’m in two minds about the wing. I wanted the Sti one but I’m liking the standard one more and more.
Yeh I like both also
When you are doing an oil change you pop a hole in the bottom of the oil filter and let it drain before you remove it, so much cleaner!
And then if for some reason you can’t get the filter off you’re screwed, wiping my hand with a rag is fine I’ll keep doing it my way
Wow I can’t believe how much is wrong with it and damaged considering how immaculate the previous owner said it was.
Hope you didn’t pay his asking price.
everyone think their own car is immaculate, no i didnt
What was the asking price?
@@MissSky01 started at $31,500 i think

Been waiting for this
Got a shed load of GC8/gf8 and Sti parts - if you're looking for stuff mate
I'm only up in Wagga nsw
What you got??
those pedals are a rare option worth a little bit of money mate!
If they’re real
Personal opinion but the bigger wing looks heaps better 🤟🏽🤟🏽
im 50/50 on it at the moment
How much would you sell the NARDI steering wheel for??
Not for sale
I predict this car will be on market place next week
I’m still confused why he didn’t get it up on a hoist before buying it…
Because the owner didn’t have a hoist at his house unfortunately 🤦♂️
@@MindieJ yeah fair enough… sucks it wasn’t closer by so you could hey
@@MindieJ he could have gone to your work with you to use the hoist?

Such soft panels on all Subaru’s but still awesome
Those old subaru engines are good for leaking oil, especially from the heads
Yes they are!
Wings gotta go standard is way better fits its era better
im 50/50 on it at the moment
What car cover do you use for your cars
blue/black box at SCA cant remember the brand, only good for inside though
The corner lights are supposed to be clear because they are park lights and not blinkers
correct, but orange looks better
Well my previous comment in the last video was bad luck i guess. Chuck some white TE37's on and put the smaller spoiler back on.
So back to WRX spec minus STI engine parts gearbox and wheels and brakes... I liked the STI theme maybe STI steering wheel and seats refurbished/new wheels and keep rear wing...
good video lover buddy
Surprised with all that wiring it never self combusted 😂 scrap man will love that copper wire 😂
Full ram raid spec 🔝
I have the dash pocket for $250 or the full dash with it $400 if your keen Chris
Already have the pocket brand new, thanks though pal
No dramas 🤙
bro the standard wing looks 1000 x better
i agree
Keep the wing brooo. Stock one doesn’t hit the same. From a GC8 owner xx

I got fog lights if u need
Bought a gc8 recently, literally have similar dents on exact same areas
Yea me too. Pretty sure it has something to do with extremely thin door skins
glad to hear its not just me then
That previous owner has no idea! Wtf 😂
Great video
Thanks!
yep... that's the gamble of used cars unfortunately
Especially wrx's and Evo's...... All fkd one way or another.

definitely not
I bet you needed a brown paper bag after buying this car.....ocd overload! 😂👌

I had absolutely zero interest in doing that car and no, definitely not what I wanted
Yeeeep, unfortunately pretty normal damage for a GC8.
☝️Vote for orange indicator lights and the standard rear wing. Sleek 90s JDM style.
kinda agree with you there
How much did you pay for that?
Tree fiddy
Yeah no matter how good you look over a car, if you want it 100% you'll have to get it there

Ill buy the front seats and amp
Amp in the bin and seats already gone
You need a dry ice blaster
No worries man you paying for it?
Get STi blue seats
The wing has to stay
im still 50/50
Leave the wing get on it start buying nos parts this will come up good.
She's pretty rough man. Best that could happen is for it to get keyed on every panel then insurance pays for a respray.
