Hey, I like your video's a lot! I am a serious DIY'er from The Netherlands. I started with cheap scantools (ancel). I have had the Foxwell NT624Elite. I Currently have the Foxwell NT644Elite (has more functions and is a little bit bi-directional). I liked those units because of the 'lifetime free updates' but I have noticed that they stopped the updates since the start of this year. For me it is not really a problem, but if you want to work with the newest cars the scanner wont work. I also sometimes use cheap ELM 327 dongles with Car scanner pro, Doctor Prius and Torque. With some dongles I can sometimes switch off things like a seatbelt sound or the sound when reversing. For instance on my dad's 3th generation Toyota Prius. Last week I ordered the Xtool ELM (AD20 pro). X-tool claims it has full system diagnosis. For €28 I am a little skeptic but I am also excited to see if it works. The problem that I have is that those tools aren't always consistent on different makes and models. So I am looking for a good, not too expensive scantool with advanced capabilities, like switching off sounds in a car. There are a lot of brands to choose from: Xtool (like in this video), Foxwell, Launch, Autel, Thinkcar, Ancel, Konnwei, Topdon. When you look for a more advanced tools I found that my choices are becoming more expensive (ranging from about € 300-500). Almost all tools have after 1-3 years a paid susciption. I dont think this is a huge problem but I can rarely find the cost of a subsciption. I dont think its usefull for a DIY'er to have a subscription that is € 200-500+. What I am looking for is a subscription around €100-150 a year, So I dont have to buy a new tool every 5-10 years. What are your experiences with those subsciptions? You have made some great videos about some scantools. Wich one would you reccomend (looking at funtionallity and update costs)? Thanks in advance.
The subs are not too expansive if you shop around. It's also important to note that you can continue to use the tool after the sub expires. It will just not update anymore. I waited 2 years before getting my Launch updated. Never needed to work on anything newer.
Oh yes I just bought that for the price this is the top dog totally use I've had no problem with it pick up the Periscope to go with it a complete unit and the Obi-Wan connector for the 95 and older excellent tool

Im on a fixed and would like to hzve an idea of what is wrong and fix what I can if you are so inclined you share your old ones you have reviewed and not use. Thank you for the video.

I didnt see on the list of bidirectional functions for transmission relearn? Wondered if it will do this? Also you keep saying free updates for 3 years. After the 3 years does it lose functions like transmission relearn or other bidirectional controls? I bought a Thinkdiag 2 for the transmission relearn on my buick and after 1 year you couldn't do it anymore without buying another year of service $100 and a new tool only costs $120 with a year of service. I understand new cars come out and you would need updates for the newer cars that come out but taking away most functions that you buy one for is crazy. So just wondering if this is what 3 years of updates means??
I'm looking into buying this same unit. I'm not sure about the transmission relearn ability if it can chances are it won't support every make/model this is just how it is for these more affordable scan tools. That being said xtool has been very good with updates and fixes and will work to try and add features requested by customers. After the 3 years of free updates all it means is you will have to pay around $199 for a full year of updates. If you don't pay, scan tool still works the same just doesn't get updated.
I can say that yes, the tool will continue to operate without a subscription. As for transmission relearns, every car will be different, but Those features are there for my 2018 mirage.
Tough call! Both offer similar functions, it really comes down to the layout of the software. I have been using Launch OS for years now, so this one was certainly a change. I felt it was closer to the Autel OS I used at work.
It's just a shame xtool does not warn you to take your OBD connector back out when you're shut the unit down many times I have left it in the car nearly all makes warn u with buzzing noise xtool needs to get onto this but it is a very good tool other than that
If I buy the tool and my subscription expires can I still use full functionality of the tool for whatever year model any subscription expired and back?
