    In 2009 we bought a 1999 V6 Mustang Convertible with around 88,000 miles for our teenage daughter. It had been owned by an adult and our mechanic said it was it fantastic condition. Just needed a few minor repairs. She drove it for 5 years, then we upgraded her to a nice used Toyota RAV4. Passed the Mustang down to her brother and he drove it several years. It’s been a great vehicle. It currently has 133,000 miles and my husband and I love driving it on nice days.

      Today's kids should've lived through the 1970s and early 1980s when the early EPA-choked smog motored cars averaged about 1/3 hp per cu. in. A "performance" engine could get 1/2 hp per cu. in.
      Oddly enough, those smog motors still moved along well enough but, they ran out of steam at around 3200-3800 rpm. I remember my Dad's 1978 Buick Electra with the Buick 350. It was surprisingly peppy and responsive but, it was all low end torque and numerically low gearing. It had this quiet effortless acceleration but, it didn't like it when you wanted to rev it past 3600 rpm.

    A non V8 mustang is always a smart choice, especially the newer V6 models. When I was a young man I had a 1979 notch back with the 2.3, 4 cyl, 4 sp & I couldn't have been happier with the gas mileage, the looks, basically the whole package & with a little tuning I was able to get it to chirp 3rd gear easily!
    It was also true that they last longer by not being an eight cylinder. I being the last owner of this bought new family car had 495,000+ miles on it with the carburator being the one big ticket repair to the engine & just regular maintenance on the rest of the car like water pumps, clutches, tie-rods, brakes etc.

    • @hoopty.
      @hoopty. ปีที่แล้ว +6

      High mileage cars doesn't matter, as long as they were maintained. I prefer all my cars over 200k miles, because most of them have already had their maintenance.

    • @silent_anon404
      @silent_anon404 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hoopty. At that mileage, wouldn't the engine wearing out be a concern?

    • @UmmYeahOk
      @UmmYeahOk ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@silent_anon404 at 500k, that engine most likely has been rebuilt, as most likely the transmission, maybe even the differential. The thing is, if a high mileage car is still on the road being driven, odds are good that the owner has taken care of it by properly maintaining it. Most of these owners will keep some sort of records or proof of the maintenance, which is what you want to ask for.
      The basket case lemons that are high mileage, tend to be around 200k mile survivors. These are the cars that somehow managed to make it this long, and the new owner finds themself having to do absolutely everything to the vehicle, as everything suddenly begins to fail while in their care since the previous owner did not. 200k mile cars may be just as good at that 500k mile car, so long as they can prove they took care of it.

    I've had three Mustangs since 2011, all three including my current one had the 3.7L V6. It's a great engine that I've never had an issue with any of them. Ford made a big mistake getting rid of it just to push the 4-cylinder turbo, which is the main reason I haven't purchased a new one. Also, Scotty, just so you know, Ford stopped using the V6 after the 2016 model year.

I have accumulated now 110k miles in about 14 months. I do about 70k miles a yr. I havent had any problems with engine transmission or anything. I get my car maintenance at ford faithfully, whenever it needs. Tires, rotation, alignment, whatever it needs. Books says 150,000 miles mark , I need to get transmission fluid change, which I plan. Bought my 2014 race red 3.7 Mustang (with 6 speed auto) back in December of 2019. The other thing with manual is that if you DO rev it, the thing has VVT and direct injection, meaning it has old school VTEC Civic type boost at around 3.5K. Its quick and then it's really trying to get you into trouble and will gladly wrap you around a tree if you let it at higher rpms. The way it delivers power is honestly almost like the V8 and it's why it's only a second slower 0-60, despite the V8 having 50% more power. AND, it's been reliable. The V8.. well, those aren't so reliable from that generation. And the older reliable V8 from around 2010 has the exact same HP. These really are a win-win. Mustang fun and power, super reliable. And... now you can buy an Ecoboost for another year or so for 30K? I'm holding onto mine as it'll for sure be a future classic once all the EVs have crumbled into dust and have zero resale value due to the cost to replace the battery packs.
