That scripture is so clear. Why do many call church leaders father? You automatically put them above yourself and many times go to their teachings before looking to the bible. Essentially taking their word over God.

The problem here is that Jesus specifically says not to call any man father. And the Catholics deliberately chose that word to call their priests. Just pick a different word so there's no division. There's tons of words to choose from. Why do you have to walk the line?

Knowing God lives outside of time... do you think he had this written for the Catholics? (knowing that they will bend words to meet their means?) If this is such a truth, why then do other Christian faiths avoid calling their teachers by that name/title? They are reading the same Bible, no?

Even calling the pope "holy father".. they're so blasphemous and they don't even get it bcause they don't know God.
"Frater", which means brother would have been the perfect word instead of "pater", which means father.
Yet they're not my brothers cause they're not born again.
Hence all that idolatry in the catholic church.

    *CALL NO MAN "FATHER"? SERIOUSLY?*
    _Does Jesus contradict the Father?_
"In that day I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and I will clothe him with your robe, and will bind your sash on him, and will commit your authority to his hand. And he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah." (Is 22:21)
"And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven." (Mt 23:9)
The use of "father" in Isaiah shows that the term can be appropriately applied to those who serve in roles of spiritual leadership and guidance, as long as it does not overshadow the recognition of God’s unique fatherhood.
This understanding helps reconcile the two passages, indicating that Jesus' command in Matthew 23:9 is not a universal prohibition against the term but a reminder of the preeminent fatherhood of God.

but now it becomes a spiritual political issue and an abomination when a religious leader like the pope receives praise and allows anyone to address him as father is a great offense in the eye's of the Almighty

@@jess_the_mess7816 Now a question I have, why do you guys pray to marry? She was a human too just because she was found faithful in Gods eyes doesn’t mean she was without sin bc the ONLY person to walk this earth without sin is Jesus. (Same thing with the saints etc). Also, there is no other mediator, Jesus is the only one. So asking or confessing your sins to a “father” or a priest for forgiveness doesn’t make sense to me (no offense). (Now I do understand we’re supposed to confess our sins to one another as stated in James 5:16, but giving full authority to a MAN to forgive your sin isn’t right) come out of that religious and pagan religion and have a relationship with the real Jesus. After all He is the only one that can save you not the Pope, the priests, marry, or the saints. Much love ❤️.

And that’s in addition to all of their vain repetitions of rituals / traditions that are man made like the vain repetition of the rosary, “Hail Mary”, and “our Father” practices of disobedient, wicked nonsense which attempts to undo their sin with vain and babbling abomination. Jesus SAID, “It is finished” and IT is for people who follow HIM... “they rather choose false doctrine rituals (& lets not leave our purgatory; as if we have power over dead people that GOD Himself, has taken out of the testing field, & talking to the dead is an abomination...one can only choose for one selfs & be an example for others to follow...dead people CANT follow, they can only wait for judgement.) such lies of practice from men and Satan / demons of the Roman Catholic Church is an abomination. @@carmin9550 Do you think you're doing God's work, and being Charitable by calling my religion pagan....... You already risk putting me in a sour mood to not listen.... Not to mention the burden of proof toward your position is high and unattainable (Yes, I know you disagree with that statement, but nonetheless it's true)
You ask me a question while presuming my position to be wrong already...... Then proceed to write me a well meaning but well refuted explanation before hearing what I know?
If you're as strong as you think you are in the Faith and your search for Truth then you'll re-examine your approach if you truly want to spread the Gospel......
I wouldn't call you a pagan or a heretic, though I do believe that Protestant theology is heretical. The Catholic Churchs position is that you are our brothers separated in the faith. You are authentic Christians... Sadly not all of you think of us a Christians.... In spite of facts....
I don't consider you a heretic for the simple fact that I would hope that _your_ understanding/interpretation of the Bible is what has lead you to _your_ Protestantism..... That is to say if you had undeniable understanding why the CC is the True Church of Christ you would be Catholic.....
One is a heretic when one choses what to believe in spite of the overwhelming evidence.
You asked me a question that has been delt with by the Magisterium of the Church thoroughly. The only ones not convinced are those with invincible ignorance or invincible pride.....
You don't even analyze your own questions which I'm sure you presume are coup de grace level questions.....
You asked "why do we pray to Marry"......
First off..... if by pray, you mean in the same way we pray to God... then you're understanding of Catholic Theology is already way off.... The CC teaches that only God is to be worshipped. You might have heard about us reverencing Mary, but reverencing does not equate to worship..... Believe it or not this is official Dogma.....
If by pray, you mean ask her to pray for us as is said in the Hail Mary, then simple. Because it is allowed....
It is allowed in the same way you ask your buddies or pastor to pray for you..... As is revealed by St Paul.
"I desire therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men"
I'd rather have Mary pray for me then a friend like you. (That isn't to say I wouldn't want you to pray for me at all)
"For the continual prayer of a just man availeth much. " James 5:16
Does praying for someone take away from Jesus' sacrifice on Calvary?
No, and by extension neither do the Saints, the Sacraments, Works of faith and mercy, Sacramentals, Clergy etc...
I'm not even done, but I'll get back to you when I can.

@@carmin9550 @carmin acker Pt. 2 of my response. You asked me why we need to confess to a priest....
Your first objection stems for a failure to understand how God operates.....
"But to give full authority to a MAN to forgive your sins isn't right......."
Well then you're not making any sense.......Jesus is fully God and Fully Man...... Given Authority by his Father to forgive sins.... That and he and the Father are one. So God the Father gave God the Son full Authority to forgive sins, yet they're the same substance.... But also equal.....
You're telling God that his decision to give man the authority to forgive sin is wrong.... Yet he did exactly that with Jesus the God Man......
Furthermore Jesus himself gave authority to man to forgive sins......
21] He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. [22] When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost. [23] Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.
      -John 20:21-23 D.R. Bible
[23] "Whose sins": See here the commission, stamped by the broad seal of heaven, by virtue of which the pastors of Christ's church absolve repenting sinners upon their confession.
"Confess therefore your sins one to another": That is, to the priests of the church, whom (ver. 14) he had ordered to be called for, and brought in to the sick; moreover, to confess to persons who had no power to forgive sins, would be useless. Hence the precept here means, that we must confess to men whom God hath appointed, and who, by their ordination and jurisdiction, have received the power of remitting sins in his name.
It wouldn't make any sense to confess your sins to a lay person who has not been given Authority through the laying of hands......
Jesus gave the Apostles Authority to forgive sins and they in turn have given their successors the same Authority.
Now you can object that Man has no power because they're sinful..... Well again that's not how God operates..... He uses the broken to fix the broken. That is to say He chose the twelve and yet one of them is a devil.....
God could've done everything by himself, but he chose to use the broken to fix the broken by having his Apostles and Disciples.
GOD is the same today as he was yesterday. He chose to have a system in which their is a heirarchical order that clenses one soul, and he chose to have a similar system in the new.....
You can ask, but why is it different? Doesn't that mean God got tired of religion.... No, if that were the case there wouldld have been no Sacraments from the beginning....
Jesus got rid of the old sacraments because they were given to Jews by God in the covenant and were to be upheld until the Messiah came.
Once Jesus came the old covenant is no more and so begins a new covenant.
[26] And whilst they were at supper, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke: and gave to his disciples, and said: Take ye, and eat. This is my body. [27] And taking the chalice, he gave thanks, and gave to them, saying: Drink ye all of this. [28] For this is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many unto remission of sins. [29] And I say to you, I will not drink from henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I shall drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father. [30] And a hymn being said, they went out unto mount Olivet.
[26] "This is my body": He does not say, This is the figure of my body, but This is my body. (2 Council of Nice, Act. 6.) Neither does he say in this, or with this is my body; but absolutely, This is my body: which plainly implies transubstantiation.
[27] "Drink ye all of this": This was spoken to the twelve apostles; who were the all then present; and they all drank of it, says St. Mark 14. 23. But it no ways follows from these words spoken to the apostles, that all the faithful are here commanded to drink of the chalice; any more than that all the faithful are commanded to consecrate, offer and administer this sacrament; because Christ upon this same occasion, and at the same time, bid the apostles do so; in these words, St. Luke 22. 19, Do this for a commemoration of me.
[28] "Blood of the new testament": As the old testament was dedicated with the blood of victims, by Moses, in these words: This is the blood of the testament, etc., Heb. 9. 20; so here is the dedication and institution of the new testament, in the blood of Christ, here mystically shed by these words: This is the blood of the new testament, etc.
[29] "Fruit of the vine": These words, by the account of St. Luke 26: 22. 18, were not spoken of the sacramental cup, but of the wine that was drunk with the paschal lamb. Though the sacramental cup might also be called the fruit of the vine, because it was consecrated from wine, and retains the likeness, and all the accidents or qualities of wine.
God never got rid of the religious system. He only improved it, because now we can truly partake in his full Glory through the sacrament of the Eucharist.

I'm studying Genesis and believe the reason we are to call no one 'father' but Yahweh is because earthly fathers assume authority over their offspring and we to have one authority, God. In Gen. 2:10 rosh is found in plural form ראשים translated as ‘heads’, ‘headwaters’, ‘branches’, ‘rivers’, or even ‘riverheads’, but ‘heads’ are ‘leaders, masters, captains, fathers’, those who lord it over others as Jesus warned in Matthew 20:25,& Mark 10:42. This explains why rosh means ‘heads, leaders, masters, captains, fathers’ and ‘poison’ at the same time, the poison of headship which resulted in the loss of eternal life from the beginning of time.

THEY try to make it seem impossible to learn Hebrew but with the spirit to guide us all things are possible. Plus Yahshua said to only call him teacher and leader in Matt 23: 8 & 10. I firmly believe we can't learn the truth from others because there are many false shepherds.

In Ezekiel 31 Assyria that became lofty is Adam who was given into Satan's hands and was given over to death. This took place in Gen 2:7 which we are taught is when Adam was created but as Paul explains in 1 Cor 15:45 this is when he became perishable.
From the beginning Satan offered men rule over the kingdoms of the world and those who accepted became his leader as described in Ezekiel 28. That is why Yahshua first had to prove he would not worship Satan in Luke 4: 1 - 13, before he became our king.

In the words of reformer Martin Luther, the doctrine of sola Scriptura means that “what is asserted without the Scriptures or proven revelation may be held as an opinion, but need not be believed.” Roman Catholicism flatly rejects this principle, adding a host of traditions and Church teachings and declaring them binding on all true believers with the threat of eternal damnation to those who hold contradictory opinions.
In Roman Catholicism, “the Word of God” encompasses not only the Bible, but also the Apocrypha, the Magisterium (the Church’s authority to teach and interpret divine truth), the Pope’s ex cathedra pronouncements, and an indefinite body of church tradition, some formalized in canon law and some not yet committed to writing. Whereas evangelical Protestants believe the Bible is the ultimate test of all truth, Roman Catholics believe the Church determines what is true and what is not. In effect, this makes the Church a higher authority than Scripture.
Creeds and doctrinal statements are certainly important. However, creeds, decisions of church councils, all doctrine, and even the church itself must be judged by Scripture-not vice versa. Scripture is to be accurately interpreted in its context by comparing it to Scripture-certainly not according to anyone’s personal whims. Scripture itself is thus the sole binding rule of faith and practice for all Christians. Protestant creeds and doctrinal statements simply express the churches’ collective understanding of the proper interpretation of Scripture. In no sense could the creeds and pronouncements of the churches ever constitute an authority equal to or higher than Scripture. Scripture always takes priority over the church in the rank of authority.
Roman Catholics, on the other hand, believe the infallible touchstone of truth is the Church itself. The Church not only infallibly determines the proper interpretation of Scripture, but also supplements Scripture with additional traditions and teaching. That combination of Church tradition plus the Church’s interpretation of Scripture is what constitutes the binding rule of faith and practice for Catholics. The fact is, the Church sets itself above Holy Scripture in rank of authority.

Abraham, our father of faith, believed God, and the substance of his faith released God’s righteousness to him. So the true children of Abraham have the same faith as their father! And the Scripture prophesied that on the basis of faith God would declare gentiles to be righteous. God announced the good news ahead of time to Abraham: “Through your example of faith, all the nations will be blessed!” And so the blessing of Abraham’s faith is now our blessing too!

    1. In the entire 23rd chapter of Matthew, Jesus is exposing the evil ways of the Pharisees, saying:
    a. "They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on people's shoulders, but will they lift a finger to move them? Not they! (Vs. 4)
    b. "Everything they do is done to attract attention, like wearing broader headbands and longer tassels, like wanting to take the place of honour at banquets and the front seats in the synagogues." (Vs. 5)
    2. Now, in verses 7, 9, and 10, Jesus criticizes the Pharisees for their use of religious TITLES. As Jesus said in those verses:
    a. "[The Pharisees like] being greeted respectfully in the market squares and having people call them Rabbi." (Vs. 7)
    b. "You must call no one on earth your father, since you have only one Father, and he is in heaven." (Vs. 9)
    c. "Nor must you allow yourselves to be called teachers, for you have only one Teacher, the Christ." (Vs. 10)
As you can see, in the context of Matt. 23:9, Jesus instructed his followers not to copy the ways of the Pharisees by applying to themselves such religious titles as "Rabbi," "Father," and "Teacher." Did Jesus' followers obey his words? Well, ask yourselves, where in the Bible was:
    a. Paul referred to by the title "Father Paul"? Answer: NOWHERE!!
    b. Peter addressed as "Rabbi Peter"? Answer: NOWHERE!!
    c. Luke called "Teacher Luke"? Answer: NOWHERE!!
Clearly, the Catholic Church is wrong when it refers to its priests by the religious use of the title "Father." The Catholic Church is a cesspool of "Christian" apostasy.

You can call a man your physical father but do not call any man a father or a teacher as a title of honor. That’s what this passage means. Catholics, Orthodox Christians and Jews have this passage grossly misunderstood. Your only Father is the Father in Heaven. Only He is worthy of all glory, honor and praise. Not most glory, honor and praise; all of it.

@@BibleAnswerMan That’s old testament and under an old covenant. Do you eat kosher? If not then you are violating the old covenant. My opinion would only change with substantial NT scripture where any disciple refers to another disciple as “father” or “teacher”.
If Jesus meant that we shouldn’t call hypocrites “father” or “teacher” then he would have said “Do not call hypocrites on earth your father”. He very specifically speaking about calling any “man” father or teacher. Why? Because he is teaching us all to be humble and to not exalt other men above ourselves. Only God deserves exaltation. Men fail, God doesn’t.

      What

    • @BibleAnswerMan
      @BibleAnswerMan  ปีที่แล้ว

@Pup Wood We never want to misinterpret the Jesus to suppose titles were never to be used. So Elisha addressed Elijah as “My father” (2 Kings 2:12) and King Joash addressed Elisha as “My father” (2 Kings 13:14).
Titles of respect where respect is due can be used in addressing another person. We can address someone as Rabbi, father, and teacher.
But Jesus has something else in mind in Matthew 23. The Lord is condemning the religious leaders’ self-gratification in being addressed with religious titles. The corrective Jesus offers is this: “But the greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted” (Matt. 23:11-12).
      Your criticism is invalid.

According to Jesus, the only relationship among saints is BROTHERS AND NOT FATHERS/SONS, since we are all sons of the most high God/father.
Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my BROTHERS and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”John 20:17 NIV
Also when Jesus said do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have one father who is in heaven. He meant do not call anyone on earth your "spiritual father" because he was making reference to God who is spirit. He was not referring to our biological/earthly fathers.
“Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others. “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all BROTHERS. And do call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matthew 23:5‭-‬12 NIV

The term “Father” when used to address a Catholic priest is not merely an assertion of his higher status and seek authority, influence and power in the community of believers; rather , it is a term of endearment of love, intimacy and serve as the Apostle Paul uses in 1 Corinthians. I think you have taken it of context because you applied Catholic Priests as these scribes. Maybe .002 % are but I can assure you that there are many many more Protestants clergy that are of this benevolent character.

Hey Raquel, when Jesus said in matthew 23:9 he says this. "And dont address anyone here on earth as 'father,' for only God in heaven is your SPIRITUAL father". Alot of people confuse, twist, and manipulate scripture. In this case Jesus is referring to the SPIRITUAL father not your dad or fathers mentioned in the bible like Abraham, Noah, or even Adam in the beginning. So first we must separate the two differences SPIRITUAL and flesh fathers of this earth and also founding fathers of anything. Jesus is clearly stating dont address men on earth as your spiritual fathers to get to him... If you open your bible to John 14:5-7 Thomas says "we have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?"6 Jesus told him, " I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE. No one can come to the FATHER (God) except through me. Jesus never said you can come to the father through me AND the religious leaders I appoint on earth. And I know Jesus doesn't make a mistake in his gospels. So please I encourage you to read it and see what it says in context. I hope this helps! Jesus is the only way sister!

New Testament refers to followers of Christ as "the first Christians," NOT Catholics. Catholics came hundreds of years later (ROMAN Catholic; Romanism was/is an incredibly wicked practice) and it got VERY much twisted & further corrupt along the way (The Crusades and a number of wicked twists). The fact that they elevate a man and call him "The Pope" (meaning, Holy Father) is insane wickedness. And that's in addition to all of their vain repetition of rituals/traditions that are man-made like the vain repetition of the rosary, "Hail Mary" and "our Father" practices of disobedient, wicked nonsense which attempts to undo their sin with vain babbling abomination. Jesus SAID, "it is finished" and it IS for people who follow HIM. Catholics follow nonsense ritual false doctrine religion and they are NOT saved because they are not born again in Christ and there is no indwelling Holy Spirit POWER/evidence to show that they are free indeed because of the Son. They rather choose the false doctrine rituals (& let's not leave out purgatory; as if we have power over dead people that GOD, Himself, has taken out of the testing field; & talking to dead people is also an abomination ...one can only choose for one's self & be an example for others to follow. ...dead people CAN'T follow, they can only wait for judgement). Such lies of practice from men & satan/demons of the Roman Catholic church is an abomination to GOD. The LORD rebuke you, correct you & have mercy to ACTUALLY save you in YAHSHUA/JESUS. AMEN! 🙋🏼‍♀️
