- TAPEJARA IS TRASH? How to tame/Everything you need to know! - Ark Survival Evolved. Is the Tapejara any good? The Tapejara was introduced in update 247 along with the new night vision goggles and some other dino which is seriously underwhelming. How do you tame the Tapejara? In this guide we will cover everything you need to know about the Tapejara! I was pretty surprised/impressed/underwhelmed when I got my hands on this new flyer. It has some fantastic advantages but also some serious drawbacks.

What I hoped for:
Due to travel time as well as other pronounced factors such as geography and available resources and tames it would create multiple small tribes that were forced into a form of economic democracy due to opportunity cost of their 'local' resource and animal tames vs neighboring tribe's resource and animal tames.
What I got:
Everybody consolidates into one tribe, creating a single 1v1 scenario of perpetual warfare because of one to three major tribes essentially owning 40% of the map. No trading, no diplomacy, just war. No "Aqua Tribes" of the fringe, no "warrior tribes" of the north, no "dwarven tribes" of the mountains, no theme, no effort is given due to the harm it causes to specialize in one resource as no one has the trust to trade.
they all said that about the pteranodon about fighting I think that the tapejara can be good if you can pump the stats correct
Tapejara is really good for singleplayer taming. You don't have to built traps or risk anything, just set it to follow you, place yourself on a passenger seat, and that's how you tame the majority of creatures.

they did that once they released the wild gigas.
They're not that overpowered I mean while your landed on a wall your an easy target for snipers and if you accidentally get to close to turrets your dead

Tapejara is actually really good, DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS VIDEO. He def exagurates the weaknesses.
So it's not over powered and has a niche area of usefullness, basically like every other dino in the game. Sorry it isn't "OP" enough for you.
I'm liking the possibilities it will add to raiding or even moving people more efficiently for a cave run, etc.
If this is added to the scorched earth map, taming Golems will be suuuuper easy, killing Wyverns too maybe, if it's quick enough and you got a gunner with Homing missiles
Well it's maneuverable enough to stay directly on a rex's tail and never go near the mouth - so it can 1v1 a rex c:

Duff Man The rocks that you cannot cling to on the tapejara have nothing do do with the tapejara it is a clipping issue, anyways it comes from the red forest biome so it is really a tree clinger.

Ghillie suit + bolas is the best way to tame these
Can confirm on the bola! I found one sorta stuck / on the ground near our base - bola'd it and got our first one! Wonderful mount for getting more argys or even going after the quetz (when we get a chance).
Yeah ghillie suit just makes it easier to sneak closer to them when they are landed. works without it too though

I was playung with my freind and we saw thus guy (we thought it was a glitch pteradon) because we've never seen anything like it. so we started to chase it and out of nowhere it dissapeared into a rock.

quick taming tip: get a set of ghillie armor and a bola, sneak around until you see it land, bola to keep it down, spam tranqs.
Seems to me that the Tapejara is best used as transport or an escape bird after a raid gone wrong :P I'm glad that it doesn't do much damage, I feel like flyers ruin PvP with their OP attacks (For their size) and pickup ability. It seems, at least on officials, that ground dino battles are scarce, as an enemy could just pick you up off your mount, but I'm going off point. Great Video as always :D
If you don't carry around an emergency parachute or two for a raid, you have only yourself to blame and deserve to get picked up and dropped.
+Pickle Wart Of course I do carry chutes, but I think the pickup ability can ruin an epic dino land battle, but that's just my opinion

I agree honestly. Pteras are currently very over powered in pvp, and Quetz make the pve portion of the game to easy as well. Ground dinos don't really have much of a place in the overall game anymore, aside from Gigas and the occasional battle Bronto. The game needs some serious rebalancing.

Tip: Get on your fast flyer and take some rare flowers, find a tapejara and eat a rare flower near it before it runs too far away from you, then quickly land and while it’s trying to kill you just bola it and you can easily tranq it.
Well, I guess the tapejara is more of a dinosaur you would use if you're trying to do a large tame with multiple people? Just land on a surface and the gunners can aim at like a quetz or rex or what have you below them for an easier way to tame. I can also see maybe trying to do quetzal hunts with this thing too.

honestly, the Tapejara is a step up from the Pteranodon. Eats up less stamina when flying, larger health pool, can attack on the ground, carries larger dinos AND more riders at once, good carry weight, can fly in any direction even while running, clings to walls... what's not to love? It's a bitch to catch, but Tapejara's pretty good and actually worth it in the end imo. also, Tapejara CAN be used for fighting, just make sure you've put enough points into melee damage (up to about 300% or so if I'm not mistaken, which'll let em do about 200+ damage or so per bite). Just fly up and down and sort of peck away at an enemy until it dies, and try attacking early so juuuust as Tape's attack animation is ending, it'll hit, then follow up with a second bite just as you're pulling up.
I tamed one by accident last night, bolad it thinking it was a ptera. Very fun dino, couldnt latch on to walls but only had 5 mins to play before getting off.
epic...!!!! For me Tapejara is one of the cutest pterosaurs ... thats why i made a custom of it for my CHANNEL... ( its a lego like figure only) .... i want to make more more pterosaurs soon... i want all the dinosaurs and extinct creatures to be featured in my channel ... they deserve an equal footing ... btw cool video keep on coming

Something to keep in mind:
It is possible to use bolas on a tapejara. In my humble opinion, I think the easiest way to tame it is to wait for it to land before sneaking up on it and using a bola. 2 tranq arrows to the head would get the job done.

I think tapejara is awesome. It's balanced well,when latched on stamina takes longer,gunners must be careful,and it is low health because it's made for transport/air support. That's just my opinion you may differ.
The shabby wall clinging is made extra bad because the Tapejara won't listen to you again until you've landed after pressing space (or whatever your land button is.)
So it's essentially the Huey of ARK, while the Argent remains the Cobra, Pteranodon is the Little Bird and The Quetzal remains the Chinook of ARK?

Well according to Carleton University (hoopermuseum.earthsci.carleton.ca/ptero/pronunciation_key.htm) you are in fact pronouncing it correctly. This is one of those cases where people are going to say it however they want though so I wouldn't honestly listen to any commenter trying to make a claim one way or the other including myself. People see the "j" and either cannot or do not want to understand the complexities of language and ascribe whatever they think sounds best to their ear.

One more thing you also forgot about the tapejara is that while it may be as big as an argy, it can't pick up the same creatures an argy would and can only pick up really small things exactly like the pteranodon so ya that sucks.....
Good news, you CAN bola a Tapejara. My husband pulled it off with a VERY lucky shot. I'd recomend a ghilli suit.

I sniped it with an ascendant long neck and it fell asleep in one shot
I can see it as a base raiding transporter. Get two gunners and pick a guy up, then just drop them on the enemy base.

I love the tapejara its my favorite flying dino in ark its super quick and if you pump points into weight and stamina its a boss when i tamed my first tapejara it was level 100
I so happy they fix the TapeJara wall latch
I don't know why, but as the pilot of my "tribe" (we're just two players😂) I kinda feel like i have a much better relationship with the Tapejara than with other flying mounts. There's always a strong connection between a pilot and his flying mount, and I feel like the connection between me and the Tapejara is much stronger than the others. The only other "bird" I share the same connection with is the Quetzal
If you did not know tapejaras also land when wild and you can sneak up on them and bola it
you can parachute off then get on rear seat when it follows you to tame things
I haven't had a problem with health and damage with my Tapejara... mine is leveled pretty well, but with just its maneuverability, if you pump its movement speed to 300 (if you can), you can just swoop in, bite, get well out of range of a counter, swoop in, bite, dodge, repeat.
I personally find myself preferring to use the Tapejara as my go-to aerial dino whenever I'm building complex structures. It's sheer amount of control of it's mobility makes it a night and day difference when you compare it to the Argent and Ptera. Though as you went over in your video, I probably wouldn't use a Tapejara as my go-to fighter even if my choices were that and the Archaeopteryx.

Tapejara (tap-eh-jar-ah) is less maneuverable than a pteranadon (irl) should attack when in numbers, and is smaller than a pteranadon

I really need one of these guys. Super good for what it's for. Would I use it for raiding? No unless we are fighting other flyers or strafe running + rockets or dropping off tribe mates. What is really good about it is the speed, maneuverability, and carrying capacity. +3.4% Speed per level is sweet as hell. Outrunning Wyverns isn't gonna be an issue with this guy
It's possibly a good scout. I could use that to scout bases and dodge rockets and get back safe by using the up and down and side to side as a dodging mechanism

I tamed it with out a flier. All you need to do is go and have a wooden club and a bola... yea just throw the bola at it and knock it out
I really do enjoy this creature even as a battle mount cuz if you breed them they become monsters
its a very fun dino to fly on because it can easily move around

You forgot the best feature of the tapajara is they you can build bases with it very easily
that's true, BUT
it's pretty much the only way to solo tame a quetz.
Just get in a bummer seat with your tranqs and tell your tapejara to go to the quetz over and over by pressing the comment key.
I laughed my ass off at the beginning with the lystro just picked up

dude i found a lv 112 tapa jara at lv 5 bolaed tamed it and it was beast it could carry stuff like an argey maybe a little less weight it was fast like a ptheradon and i though it did decent damage don't listen to thickbait but i agree on the seating it is hard as hell to shoot while on the back and on the front your better off being carried by an argey if you are attacking
an easy way to start tame is a bola. sneak up and toss a bola and then easy tame.

My tapejaras take on trikes, raptors, alpha raptors, my level 150 tapejara actually killed a level 60 carno once. They're really not that weak.
I really hate that you can't stop the Tapejara from landing after you accidantely hit the spacebar :P

Thick freedom the reason it wouldn't land on the walls is you were sprinting a lot of Flyers have problems Landing ever since boss Arenas came in sprinting and Landing just does not go together well
tapejara needs a buff considering how much trouble it is to tame and how crappy it's stats are

James Forehand pteranodon. It's great melee pump and speed pump makes it essential for raiding and raid defense early game. Great for fighting.
i think youre alittle overly critical of it, its more of a long range/transport mount, could also be handy for taming stuff since its easier to get than a quetzal and more maneuverable, not every mount should be able to do everything
I tamed a Tapejara with a single Tranq dart to the face. I happened to find one that landed.

I have a tapajara and it has currently, 620 health and 155 melee damage and is a level 10. Beat that wimpy tapajaras!
its not broken or useless. basically its a fast transport that has good weight. thats all it was supposed to be really

they are not fast, they are slower than argys, completely useless bird. One could of said it's a ptera upgrade but it isn't. It's weak, can not carry heavier dinos, slow, and completely useless for gunners. The only person that can shoot is the one facing the opposite direction it is flying cause if you shoot in the direction its going you hit the bird and the driver. the only time you can both shoot is when it is landed and hanging on a wall. they missed the mark on this one. They need to make it able to climb the walls and not just hang there, increase its base speed and multiplier. The way it is now just another useless dino like many others
Mine carries 1300 weight and flies much faster than any of my agrys. Can't stand flying back to my base with tamed argys following me cause I have to stop for a while for the damn things to catch up.
Can Tapejara go on a tree pointing down if you fly backwards into one and aim down? Does not make much sense to force the driver and guy in the front to shoot up. Would make the driver shooting pointless. Double pointless if you are on solo.
