I completely disagree with the take on the screen. I find it way easier and less distracting to use the dial in my CX-5 while driving rather than the touch screen in my ATS-V. If you use it for like a day it is certainly annoying, but if you get used to the dial it is hard to go back to having to try to touch a screen while driving.
Nailed it. I drive a CX-8 (not available in America but basically a 7 seat CX-5) and I'm so used to the dial system - even for Android Auto - I could never back to pure touchscreen

@@themercedestraveler9566 Mazda gets a little better 25 combined vs 23 for the bmw. But ppl on forums saying closer to 18. Will see what the Mazda really gets
In my humble opinion: 1) Primary targets for top trim(340hp version) CX90 are not really GLE, X5 or Q5/7 buyers. They are really buyers of XC90(Wondering why Volvo has not sued Mazda yet re model name copyright...), Lexus RX/TX, Acura MDX, Genesis GV80, Infiniti QX60, etc. 2) The hosts mentioned a few times that the CX90 turbo is "not tuned" relative to the GLE and X5 which may initially sound like a negative engineering comment.....until we look at how the fuel econ ratings(EPA or NRCanada) of the CX90 turbo blasted the 2 German models completely out of the water. In fact among ALL 3 row SUV/Crossover models without an electric plug today regardless of price range, only Toyota Highlander 2.5 Hybrid can beat/match the fuel econ of CX90 turbo. So the CX90 being "not tuned" isn't exactly true - it just isn't tuned in the way expected by the hosts. I expected impressive power and smoothness from Mazda's new inline 6 engine since its conception 5~6yrs ago but i surely didn't expect class-leading fuel efficiency. 3) Unlike GLE and X5, any CX90 can run on regular 87 gas without ruining the engine. Only tradeoff is that without premium juice, Mazda promised only 319hp when filled with cheap gas instead of its maximum 340hp. The tested CX90 is obviously a Mazda press car meaning Mazda Canada doesn't really hv much control to ensure discipline among all journalists refilling it ONLY with premium juice across multiple days/wks of testings by a wide range of journalists/media. 4) From so many CX90 test reviews done on TH-cam so far, its 3rd row/trunk space being famously far worse than Palisade, Telluride, Pilot, etc. is by now a well established fact. However, a lesser known fact is that when compared with CX90, 3rd row/trunk space on GLE and X5 is an absolute joke.
@@ariescaisip5498 don't get me wrong. I still think TH is a quality show and its 2 hosts are consistently entertaining. However in the typical TH-cam format lasting maximum 20~25mins per episode, it's just very difficult to evaluate+present every key aspect of a new model in a non-bias way(I.e. pros & cons or why something is engineered/tuned the way it is).
You can't brake boost the CX-90, it uses a wet clutch pair set, if it used a torque converter it would be different, but I've tried it and the best launch with it is just flooring it
I will say out of most modern brands I think mazda has one of the best design languages, everything they make, while not overly exciting to look at, looks great. It would be nice though if they made something more exciting
ahh id say if i had to choose id pick a lexus counterpart just based on looks alone, but i will say ive seen some of the facelifted mazda's and they do look rather nice
Touchscreen not functioning while driving is a safety decision. We can debate whether it's the right move, but I appreciate that Mazda acknowledges that and doesn't give into the touchscreen fad despite it being an easier and cheaper solution.
Had a cx90 for a couple weeks... video recommendation brought me here. Absolutely love the car and the way it drives, feels and sounds. Everything from that point of view is perfect. Some of the tech and extra safety features i feel could be improved... just a lot more bells and whistles than i prefer. Hoping continued software updates will happen and improve stuff there.
BMW should put a *Depreciation Gauge* on the dashboard right next to the tachometer. It would have to be something like a calendar / odometer combo gauge, with a dollar figure overlay, so you could see just how much value your new BMW is losing with every passing mile, and every passing day. This gauge would run continually in the background, so that when you get into the vehicle after a prolonged absence, it would be able to tell you exactly *how much less* it is worth since the last time you drove it. I would also suggest that they include a *Doomsday / Sunset* feature with the Depreciation Gauge, (they could market it as a package!). This feature would activate when the car has achieved *Maximum Worthlessness* , which can best be described as that point where it would make more sense financially to have it crushed and sold for scrap, than it would to replace the carbon ceramic brakes.
Dude just shut up. If you can't afford one just admit it. All cars are depreciating assets. You live one time. Continue to live your life in the slow lane.
What a clown. Sour grapes is a pathetic look. All cars depreciate and not everyone cares about resale. My new 2024 X5 should come with a grin meter as I’m always grinning ear to ear when I drive it. I don’t care if it depreciates to zero. Also prepaid for their maintenance plan and warranty so don’t care about repair costs either. And I’ll never be underwater because I paid cash. I didn’t buy it because I was worried about cost. Got it because it’s exactly what I wanted. All that said, the CX-90 is a very nice car, especially for the price. My buddy got one and loves it. I’m very happy for him too because I don’t go around worrying and talking noise about what other people drive. Imagine being that petty.
Especially considering the base trim has the exact same engine and transmission, just maybe less cooling - give it a year and they will be making 400hp reliably
Not surprising. The X5 is so good. I test drove an x3 then drove an x5. Big mistake. I left feeling like I need to save longer for the x5. It was so much better in every way
@@Csdhlhcky1213 I test drove both X5s and came away liking the 40i better. Much lighter on its feet and agile (as much as agile can apply to a huge SUV). You can definitely feel the extra weight of the V8 over the front axle.

Sure you can drive it super hard and then just turn it off then you’ll have issues like this. I think it's fairly evident that Mazda isn't exactly known for building a track-inspired SUV, but a long-legged and stylish upscale touring SUV is definitely in the bag. I bought my wife the last NA 6 cylinder Cx-9 in 2017 and overall it's been a great vehicle for her. Other than some maintenance niggles like having to replace the injectors at 70K (a job I did myself surprisingly in one day), it's been very reliable, but it wasn't a cheap offering even back then. While you might spend the same money on a more refined Euro offering these days, I doubt you're going to recoup the price on longevity. The only other downside is that she's constantly being challenged to race, which might be more a product of styling than driving habits, or a general status of the driving public as a whole.
The CX-9 didn't come with a 6 cylinder engine in 2017. The sole powerplant was a 2.5L turbo 4. I just confirmed it on Mazda's page and a few car magazine sites. In fact, Mazda hasn't offered a 6 cylinder engine for many, many years and this year with the introduction of the inline 6, is the first one in a very long time.
@@smar1208 I also think the MDX typeS should be quicker than CX90 because is a little lighter and also has 15 more hp. I am not sure that "mdx typeS barely keeps up with an X5 40i" because Sam Carlegion did a drag race between mdx typeS and GV80 3.5TT and acura won. And X5 40i also was faster than the GV80. So..it's hard to say. And then again this CX90 from a roll was like the X5 ))
I think that there isn’t much hope for it now. I know there was talk but Mazda seems to have abandoned the midsize sedan in favor of the family hauler.
Unfortunately Mazda has no interest in making cars anymore outside of the MX-5 Miata, the only thing to look forward to from this brand is a bunch of SUVs.

All you need to do is go to settings -> connectivity settings -> Bluetooth settings -> click on your paired device name -> scroll to the very bottom and tick the checkbox that allows you to use touch screen continuously
The CX90 should maybe.. perhaps.. just slightly.. potentially.. be racing the X7 and the GLS...just due to its size (over 200 inches) and the fact that it has a dedicated 3rd-row rather than the jumpseats in the GLE and X5 (that literally only children or adults without legs can fit in). The CX70 that's coming soon would be more in line with the size of the X5/GLE.
The CX-90 is quite the looker...even if I still can't get used to the headlights (not "distinctive" enough, and maybe a bit too small to my taste) Thanks for the video!
Mazda truly has done a great job with this SUV, so much so it'll likely remain on my list for when we unload my wife's Acura in the next two years or so. Now.. if only Mazda would put that engine into a 2 door sports car chassis and turn it up to the 400+ marks...
Im European and I must admit that I would take the Mazda hands down. Its much cheaper and to Me it looks better inside and out and the quality looks pretty awesome too.
I love this review/race. Not another tedious regurgitation of the specs/features. Just a fun romping comparison. And the conclusion at 12:00 was about the experience of the car and where it fits in the market. Not just a few words about "if you like fun steering, this may be for you."
If they put that engine in the Mazda6 and start to carry it again, I'm sold. I don't care how much it costs, I'm getting one. I have a 2017 Mazda6 Grand Touring and I have never owned a car that felt as good as it. Please bring the 6 back Mazda 😢
I think for what it is, the CX-90 made a good show. The true competition for the CX-90 I think is the Acura MDX. I don’t think the Acura would leave the CX-90 for dead, but it definitely has the power advantage. Another match?
I actually do love Mazda seats, but I am shorter. It's pretty great to see what Mazda is doing, but I wish to see some of these great engines in the Mazda 6, and for Mazda 3 to become a hot hatch again.

In my humble opinion:
1) Primary targets for top trim(340hp version) CX90 are not really GLE, X5 or Q5/7 buyers.

Touchscreen not functioning while driving is a safety decision. We can debate whether it's the right move, but I appreciate that Mazda acknowledges that and doesn't give into the touchscreen fad despite it being an easier and cheaper solution.

I really, really, really hope that Mazda sticks this inline-6 in a hot hatch or a performance coupe.
I agree, i wanna see this drivetrain in a mazda 6
Brilliant 👏 video you crazy pair 😅😅😅..
Love that mazda cx90 breath of fresh air 😍
Getting a CX60 next week ❤❤❤❤
BMW in summary: More expensive, less reliable in next 100k, more boost and less comfortable and more fluid leaks.
Reliability! Mazda❤❤
You can use the touch screen always if it is in apple carplay or Android auto
Reverse launch score: Thomas 2, James 1
I love this comparison and the Mazda was impressive. My money is for the CX-90.😂
I love this channel and these guys! 😊
They can still do luxury, but I think they can keep their old sportiness in their cars, and keep the GT feel in ther SUVs
The amount of time, production, writing, and energy that go into these vidoes is not unnoticed. Even as vehicles become homogonized - you all have found a niche as true car lovers to do your absolute best (based on budget, time and energy) to have fun. Listen! Keep living the dream. Keep doing what you’re doing. Keep inspiring. It’s bigger than cars. It’s balancing life and doing what you love. Kudos. Seriously, it is not easy to do this. Much respect. Proud of this and always remember the motivation behind it.
My 2018 signature CX9 has been a total blast since day one, 100% recommend it, very fuel efficient for its size and has a lot of room in it. not to mention reliability. All I did so far was change oil and fuel it 👍👍👍👍
21.9 mpg average for an awd vehicle
CX-90 is an adorable car with that lovely color 😍;
not a performance car but a family luxury SUV at a compatible price.
Love the looks of the xc-90 and the japanese reliability, BMW has to be careful not to ruin the 3, 5 series and x3 and x5..
It might not win these races but it will at least outlast them in quality, engineering and performance. ❤❤❤ go Mazda.
