I think it’s a great replacement for the Insta360 EVO, which used to fill a similar gap, but with further developments. In this video, I cover all the basic features, but there are more firmware updates coming in the next few months that will bring great improvements and new features.
@@GabaVRHow many firmware updates did Gen 1 receive and at what span of time (how many months between first non-release day firmware to last avail firmware). Promises aside - and track record front.
Love it, seems no brainer to buy pre production version at $$$, question is will the production model be very different from pre-production in terms of software(opening up the image controls), or any last minute hardware changes for better performance, saving couple of hundred on pre-production seems like a debate, if answers are not coming from Calf(I emailed, they did not reply).
As of now I believe the ViewPT Realia (Calf under another label with 8K enabled) is a much better quality option compared to the Visinse (just not sure if the sensors themselves are capable of that resolution or if it's interpolating but I believe it's the same as in the Visense or Calf 1). I was already amazed at the 6K recordings of the Calf which seemed to be clearer than a lot of 8K materials. Even here when zoomed in, I could see more details on the 6K-recordings than on the 7K-versions of the Visense. But of course the Visense is much cheaper. I think I'll keep my Vuze Plus for now until a new camera comes out combining the optics of the calf with 8K and 60 fps... Jó összehasonlítás volt, köszi!
Did anyone compare 6k and 8k of that Realia cam? If 8k is just interpolation then it's meh. If it actually adds real (not-interpolated, not-AI) detail, I might just go for it... As for 60fps... I'd be very happy with AI assistance there, from 30fps....
he is pre reviewing a pre production cam and without the new firmware. you should wait before judging this. calf gen 1 is a pro camera and that one is a point and click costumer camera. it is real 8k so 4k by eye. the new firmware will include that 8k mode @ 30fps. I paid 599$ with free delivery with a discount code. That is almost 4 times less than calf gen1. And by the way it is the exact same sensor.
@@francoispierretremblay4784 How do you know it's real 8k and not upscaled or some other trick 8k from 6k? In Gaba's review its 8k looked exactly as 6k. I don't see how firmware can overcome optical limitations... Hope I'm proven wrong. I'd still get the Realia instead of the "Gen 2", but of course I have my major doubts about the Realia 8k being real 8k....
Unfortunately the dynamic range is not as wide as in the previous model. While auto exposure sometimes makes it a little dark. Hopefully manual exposure settings could solve it in the future.
It was quite surprising to me when they mentioned that they're using the same sensor because I noticed such a big difference in image style. But it turns out, it's the same sensor as in the first generation.

Thank you. I have been shooting with EVO for a long time and I am waiting for a similar camera with better resolution to appear. Therefore, your review of its comparison with CALF will be very interesting. An important advantage of EVO is good video stabilization, despite the fact that I often shoot with a tripod or external stabilizer. How is this with CALF?
Unfortunately, the first-gen CALF doesn’t have image stabilization, but it does offer a lot of advantages with its professional settings. I usually pair it with a gimbal for handheld shots. I also have a tutorial on this: th-cam.com/video/S6mLrn5IzMc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jjb9adU7oGULBlXY On the other hand, it looks like the second-gen CALF will feature in-camera stabilization with an upcoming firmware update, though I haven’t had the chance to test it yet. In the test unit I’m using, it only has a built-in gyroscope, which can still be very helpful.
@@GabaVR I usually try to shoot from a tripod or use a gimbal, but practice shows that the stabilizer does not eliminate small camera shakes, which is especially noticeable in 3D video. The internal stabilization of the EVO saves from this.
Right now it's having bought a brick of plastic costing around 1000 €. They made mistakes on my order and I had to pay other 180 € for custom duties (they have to pay it upfront because this value is included in the price). I received it but I couldn't make it working since I'm not able to make an account (it says wrong password but there is no way to recover it). I asked for an invoice for my company, but still waiting for it since 2 weeks. Awful support and bad product/firmware
The production unit I've tested already includes VR180 modes, but as far as I know, with the firmware update on September 30th, the SBS (side-by-side) video function will be added, supporting 4096x2048 resolution at 60 fps.
It's just the usual square shape you see after a stitching program puts them together. The button now just says VR mode. The other option is the left and right circles
Aw that's a shame about the 100mbps bitrate. I would consider at 8K resolution the absolute bare minimum should be 150Mbps, no actually it should start at like 200Mbps with options up to 450Mbps. I mean, a Mini 3 Pro records at 96Mbps which is barely adequate for 4K, and 4K is only a quarter the size of an 8K image. So the max bitrate for this thing is a quarter of what it needs just to be passable. Man that sucks i had high hopes when I saw Hugh Hou's video on this.
Or you can read about microsd card and know their video max write limitation and see that what you are saying is total bs. The maxium write speed for video is actually 100mbs on a microsd. And it is perefct for 8k at 30fps. Delkin MicroSDXC UHS-II (U3/V90) pretend to write at 250 mbs for data and it dont and for video they adverdising at 90 mbs. So you are basicaly ask for a camera to write at a speed that will available in 5 yeras from now or more... The V on a card is for video recording speed. Speed is one thing and codecs are another. So please get a brain and stop misinforming people about a subject that you dont have a clue about!
This is not really a problem. The image is shitty with any bitrate. And with 100mb at low light it drops every 2nd frame. With 50mb it is better. For the moment the firmware is bad. Hoping will be better soon.
@@alexlevkin630 that is why it is a pre-sell called early bird. you may wait but i did not and even so the image is far away from being shitty. you are just a toxic hater guy licking windows... you are making assumptions on something you dont own.
