Nice video. Lots of good information. Would be great if you talk about other video editing software, like DaVinci Resolve. I'm never going to use Premiere.
Excellent review for us Evo owners. I'm glad I was able to resist the urge to go for the Calf... If Canon doesn't release that 8K VR180 cam by the end of the year, I'll probably just get another Evo for pseudo-360 3D and multiangle/multifocal VR180... I'd rather have similar color-science and workflow from two angles (or zoom levels) than an indiscernible tiny increase in resolution/image quality.
Hello I just received my camera and I have a problem creating an account, I have the message "captcha is incorrect" that appears, what should I do to solve this problem please? Thank you for your help!
Thank you very much. You've pretty much cleared up my doubts about upgrading from my EVO to the newer VR180 3D camera. I have been shooting video with this camera for a long time and was considering replacing it. What confused me in many ways about Calf is that it does not provide a full field of view at 180 and the lack of stabilization. And although I prefer to shoot with a static camera from a monopod, sometimes you have to make slow forward movements and here the built-in stabilization is often very useful. And of course I am satisfied with the dimensions and weight of the EVO. Of course, I want to increase the resolution and frame rate, especially in low light. Control via a smartphone and power from an external PowerBank do not bother me at all. I hope that Insta360 will release an EVO 2 version taking into account the new sensors and, if possible, without transformation to 360.
Yes, the CALF stabilisation is not as good as FlowState, but as I experienced, it’s totally usable. In my VR180 test video I featured many handheld shots, which look very promising, I guess. :)
@@GabaVR I shot VR videos (360, VR180 3D and SBS 3D with different cameras) and realized that when watching such videos in VR glasses, everything connected with image instability, especially with its panning, is noticeable and unpleasant. Here the shooting technique is noticeably different from that usually used for action cameras.
Same question here! I'm not interested in the stabilization at all, since I never move my Evo (the least movement makes me sick when I watch it in a VR headset) but the main problem with Calf is also to me the field of view and the very unpleasant filling with textures at the top and bottom. Even if we have to bend to see it, it's sill a very bad idea and a good reason to not chose this new camera, IMHO.
@@vincentculleydavison2763 The textures at top and bottom can be masked (Calf updated the firmware with the mask option). It's much better this way, and actually helps with unnecessary tripod legs issues (though, this should be avoided in professional settings). Stabilization would have been a very nice update, but oh well. Regardless - the Canon is still the best-resolution+stabilization camera out there...yet for the $ and proper prep, Calf is actually a good camera. (I used Z-Cam K1 Pro, Canon, YiHalo 360 3D cameras.) Calf is a good B-Roll camera for to support ZCam K1 Pro.
Good video, I have the Canon R5C and the Calf VR. The Calf VR is an excellent camera, so fast to set up and very sharp footage in the Quest 3 headset. My only problem is shooting with strong sunlight on the subject, the footage can get over exposed. I have been experimenting with the exposure compensation here. have you have any problems in this area. I also notice that when this happens the ground is always in perfect exposure as if the light sensor takes its exposure reading from there instead of the centre of the image. I love the way the footage can be viewed straight into the headset without any stitching or processing.
Thanks, your content sheds a lot of info about the Calf system. When communicating with them, they stay a bit vague if you have to pay import duties and Vat, or if they do that up front from the total price. Any idea? Was your kickstarter Vat free? Thanks, keep up the good work. Michel
Unfortunately I don’t about such details. I’ve received a pre-production unit, also used by other camera testers, so I don’t know how the shipping process works in normal cases.
I'd be surprised if Insta360 didn't take another plunge into the VR180 market with the Apple Vision Pro looming on the horizon. People wil be looking for a way to shoot Vr180 videos once they have the Vision.
@@payt01that’s what I’m researching now. Also apple vision has a weird resolution size. Trying to figure out how to shoot best for it. I’m guessing there will have to be more cameras coming out soon for it also easier editing options
The Evo has bigger sensors than the calf, the Calf has the same sensor size as the Vuze Xr. That being said, I'd say the Calf shouldn't be used for professional projects, it's still a consumer spec'd camera.
@@erik.... That's true, it does perform quite well in good lighting situations, but I wouldn't say it performs to a professional standard under any condition. The Calf's performance is closer to cameras like the Vuze and Evo rather than the Canon or Teche.
Where is the community where we can discuss the CALF camera? I have resorted to looking at TH-cam videos like this one to find others who even know this camera exists, much less to join a discussion about using it or, tragically, troubleshooting it. My camera turns off randomly in the middle of recording and I don't know what to do about it, and there's no official support for this camera from the company. I've updated the firmware from their website but apart from that I really don't have any recourse for continuing to troubleshoot my issues with this camera.
Hi, there’s a Facebook group, dedicated for Calf, called Calf 180 VR Camera Creators and a other one for a wider range of users: VR 180 users and fans. I would recommend these groups
IMO not worth pay 2k if you have an evo... the diference is to small to pay 2k! for slightly better camera... But for now no cheaper option... also the stabilization of evo is a MUST... i dont know how they do this but it must be in every VR180 camera...

In this comparison EVO still looks good (except noise & details), and sky looks better. Sad that there no new EVO2.

Can this camera also take photographs ??
Sure. It takes 8k photos in vr180 mode

That answers my question, which was if it arbitrarily stops recording like Insta360.

@9:24 - how much do they pay for the junk food references/images?
I'm thinking about getting into this dirty business.
