I found lots of gold while metal detecting San Clemente Beach.

Jim, from what I can view in the video, it appears to be the main case from.a vintage Rolex, possibly a semi Bubble back Ovetone. They used a 3 piece case. Look for internal threading for the bezel and back. Great find!

It goes to show Gold can tarnish I've seen it in the ground tarnish and on the ocean like that so you always got to be careful of throwing away something that might be good that watch frame is quite the find congratulations.

Boring
I walked a mile and just have a dime and a penny. I have a friend who I metal detect with. Out of respect, we leave spots when he wants to because he's not finding stuff. When by myself, I'll keep going tell I find something, but not him. If he doesn't get a good target within ten minutes sometimes he wants to leave. He a good friend, but I don't want to hunt with him anymore. We went to a beach where there was a 5 -6 foot cut, I'm doing "V's" in the wet finding most targets in a fairly close line. I see him, just walking a straight line right at where the waves stop. I'm getting nothing there, so I tell him. He goes back doing the same thing, and then wants to leave. You should have seen him the day he says "I want to find a Barber Dime". So I say, "I want to find a Barber Half". Well you guessed it, I was on one side of the street doing parkways and he's on the other. Yep, after about ten mintues, I dig a Barber Dime, and the next target, two feet away, is an 1897s Barber Half. When I cross the street to show him, he is all upset. Runs across the street and starts metal detecting. He finds nothing. I keep going where he left off, and I dig a silver Rosie, and I feel sorry for him, and I start puting X's in the dirt where the good targets are so he can dig them. Yes, when he came back he found a Mercury in one of my X's. I know this is a long one, but when you said you walked a mile and only have a dime and a penny, I'm thinking, that's me. Congrats on the gold, 14K is super. And yes, I did find a gold ring when I was doing the V's along the 5 - 6 foot cut. I love the King Tides. That laugh at 11:15 is classic. Then again at 11:42, you make me LOL.

What are parkways? Is that the grassy area between the sidewalk and the road? Possibly the grassy area in between lanes in the middle of the road, Or possibly just the side of the road on either direction? Thanks so much for the information
@@MetalDetectingDonna Donna, your right about the grassy area between the sidewalk and the street/curb. That is the only area I refer to as a parkway I know there some it NY cause I watch MDNYC, while Merrill is driving and I see him drive past a lot of them, and run stop signs :D Sometimes you need thick skin, cause some people think they own that part of land. It's the city that owns it from where I come from (Los Angeles area). Those parkways were made that way up until the 1960's so if you see them where I live, you know there could be silver there. I dug a lot of silver and a few gold items in those parkways, including a Morgan Dollar, and an 1897 Half Dollar. Good luck hunting. Oh, and in every city I've ever hunted those parkways are owned by the city and it is legal to hunt there. Some homeowners think they own it and in that case, I just move along.

I used a orange pool noodle to protect my hands and feet from the edges of the tank scoop. Whenever you come into town would love to dig with you too! Let me know when Laguna is calling and you have to visit, Lol! 👍
Has anyone ever told you that you sound like the guy who played MacGruber? Awesome finds though. My very first time going to a beach in Florida in Panama City Beach I walk down to the beach and here comes the tractor pulling a beach cleaner man I wad so mad I started shaking my metal Detector at him 😆🤣😂 we Drove from East Central Indiana and I told my wife the only way I would go is if I go metal detecting on the beach it was a let down I never even got to detect in the water they had the red 🚩 out the whole time we was there maybe better luck next time for myself

Question: does gold tarnish from salt water or it just adds on top of ring so that once you clean it, the gold comes back nice
10k gold is less than half gold so it will tarnish and get ocean encrusted easier than 14k which is a little more than half gold. So silver and copper that is mixed with gold will tarnish. Pure gold will just get ocean encrusted over a long period of time. Most of the time higher Karat gold will easily clean up while lower karat gold is a little harder to clean up.

I've NEVER seen 14K gold that oxidized... 9K or 10K can be that tarnished. 14K, I doubt it.
You must not hunt the ocean much then, I found an 18k ring on that same beach the is even more tarnished and sometimes I find rings that are completely black crust with only just a hint of gold color. The nice thing about Gold is it cleans up really well.

Me too! with every video I shoe a pile of trash, I will dig several pieces of trash before finding a good target. Knowing your beach is the best key, when to go detect and when not to. Studying the currents, swells and tides help to choose the beach while web cams can assist in seeing the volume of people in the dry sand.
I LIVE IN ENSENADA BC. LOTS OF TURIST AND PLENTY OF DRINKING ON THE BEACH. I SPENT 3 WEEKS JUST CLEANING THE BEACH. THATS WHAT IT FELT LIKE.
I wonder why you find so much copper on the beach.
The Train used to be electric, so lots of wire and switch gear.

No permits needed just do not dig near or in the tide pools on beaches that have them otherwise all beaches are open to detect. Good Luck and I hope you find some great stuff.
