    I love my amaryllis. Her name is Goldie. She lives indoors in a widebased pot. Its 7 years old and grows some years over 2ft tall. The flowers are so heavy I must help stabilize them. Sadly this year the flower broke. I put it in a thick crystal vase. Happy to say the flower continued to grow and open. As soon as the flower fell, it shot up another shoot. This plant wows all my company 😍 and grandchildren too. Make a great day🙃

      Melissa can you help? I have all my wax bulbs and they are finishing up blooming. I would love for them to come back. Tips on how my Cherry Vanilla can be like your Goldie? He said take wax off and pot. Ok but then he says to dig it out in November and to cut the roots off. What 😳 ok what if I was to just leave it in my pot. Will it grow or must I dig it out every year? How often do you water the bulb once its in dirt?
      Thank you for any tips
      Xoxox Melissa and Goldie 🥰

    The company that makes the waxed bulbs state that it should be thrown out and won't bloom again - so wasteful. What a dumb idea, imagine how many thousands of good bulbs get thrown out - not even composted because of the plastic coating. Humans are so wasteful. So glad this retailer promotes saving the bulbs and replanting.

    The basal plate or root section must always be above water. That is the primary reason they are most often grown in well draining, but not soaking wet soil. Also plant them so that only the bottom half of the bulb is covered with soil. Do not cover the stem and leaves growth point or apex of the bulb.

    Can I plant them on my garden outside in winter?

    • @gardeningtipsandmore
      @gardeningtipsandmore  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      These bulbs can not handle temperatures below 32 degrees, its better to wait until the spring. you can however plant them in a pot and keep them inside.

    I followed this exactly- there was no cellophane around my bulb-and I did not find any roots either after removing the wax package?

    • @gardeningtipsandmore
      @gardeningtipsandmore  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      they not all make roots, but once you plant them and give them a little water the roots will grow out soon.

    How often do you water it when it's outside in the clay pot in the summer?

    • @gardeningtipsandmore
      @gardeningtipsandmore  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      at the start not much water is needed, but once the plant makes a lot of leaves, and they are in full sun, fully growing, more often they need to be watered. but ofcourse all depends on sunlight, temperature , how big the plant is and the size of the pot. typically they dont require a lot of water

    When you pull it out of the ground before a freeze how do you store the bulb?

    • @gardeningtipsandmore
      @gardeningtipsandmore  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if you want to induce blooms you can keep them dry and cool for 2 months or so. if you want it to keep growing indoors, you can plant them in a pot with some soil and water regularly, the more light the better, so a south facing window would be the best.

  • @pinkysunshine2423

    Wait you said plant it after it blooms then dig it out of the soil in November and cut the roots off. WHY? CAN'T I LEAVE IT IN THE SOIL TO CONTINUE BLOOMING FOR YEARS INSTEAD OF DIGGING IT OUT IN NOVEMBER

    • @valevisa8429
      @valevisa8429 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends where you live.Amaryllis is a warm zone plant,if you leave it in the garden where the winters are harsh,it will die.

      @@pinkysunshine2423 Sorry,i don't understand your question.If you live in a cold zone,you can not leave it outside over the winter.

    • @gardeningtipsandmore
      @gardeningtipsandmore  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you could just leave it in the pot, stop watering for 2-3 months that might induce the flowers to come out and bloom. it all depends on where you live, remember they can not handle freezing temperatures, so in the northern part of the USA they can not handle the outside temperatures after september-november.@@pinkysunshine2423

    Who came up with this ridiculous, cruel idea to grow such a magnificent bulb? By the time the flowers bloom and are spent, the bulb has shrunken so much from a lack of water and nutrients that the wax is easily removed.
