“So” and “home” are still the two hardest words to pronounce like an Aussie for me; mostly figuring out how to relax my tongue enough to get the Os right. Greetings from Austin, Texas, M8!
@@verticalflyingb737 because they are famous korean singers and many people stan them that is y they come here to learn australian because three of them were born in australia but Felix and bang chan are in one group ( stray kids ) and rose is from a girl group ( blackpink )
This was really interesting to me because I've lived in Australia since I was a child, yet as I was saying each word after you, I found I still pronounced some of them very differently. I shall continue practicing! Maybe, just maybe.. One day.. People might stop asking me where I'm from!! Lol
I've going over the Aussie accent with one of my students who migrated there and we're now trying to crack it together (we used your video on the sheep/ship distinction among others to this end). In your 1 - 100 most frequent English words, I notice that 'in' and 'is' are REALLY differently pronounced from 'it'. In general, the more I listen to Australian radio, trying to tune in, the more I notice that the sheep/ship distinction is much more a range of sounds rather than two sounds or even two groups of sounds. Comparing it with British (South East England), which I'm most familiar with, the sound in ship is much more slippery, a shape-shifter even.
Aussie English You pronounce "the" like "tha"? Didn't know that! How is it pronounced when the following word begins with a vowel, a diphthong, a silent "h" or the sounds "w(h)" and "y"?
I am truely aussie, I have a strong accent and I have no apparent reason why I looked this up why I don't need or want my accent going up or down, I like having this strong accent. Mostly 'cause the kids at school in Canada can't understand what I'm saying. Wink wink ; )
Thanks Pete for this video. I personally struggled with a few words including: goverment, implementation, favorable, incident. When I use these words in conversation and speak a bit faster, I just couldn't pronounce clearly. Hope you can include these word in your futures video.
Hi I’ve been practicing an aussie accent since last year and I like this video a lot! Could you please make a video like this but with simple sentences? Thanks!
Might sound silly to others, but I'm studying Australian really diligently because I'm reading the Discworld books to my children in video chats an hour each night during this lockdown. And "The Last Continent" is sort of takes place in Australia and I want to get it right. They're young enough that they'll likely never know the effort I'm putting forth, but this matters to me. Its now been months that I've been practicing in secret.
As a stray kids fan, and from what i learned from them, the members said that felix and chan pronounce "know" like "kner", and that's how i learned how to pronounce the o 😂😂
The word "no" is the hardest thing for me to get. I try saying it by saying "naw" and transitioning my mouth into "or" with a very slight "r" sound at the end.

But I studied a little in Australia so I want to learn new words with an Australian accent. Is there any audio that is Australian English with English vocabulary book?
