Learn Australian English by listening to this episode where I teach you about contraction in the English language.
One key to sound like a native speaker is to learn how to contract the words in a sentence by connecting the sounds.
In this episode, you will learn how to say these English greetings like an Aussie:
    1. G'day
    2. What's going on
    3. What's up
    4. How are you going?
    5. How’s it going?
    6. Catch you later!
    7. See you later!
    8. See you later on!
Improve your listening skills today - listen, play & pause this episode - and start speaking like a native English speaker!
If you're someone learning Australian English as a second language and you want to improve your pronunciation, reduce your foreign accent and sound more like an Australian when you speak English, check out my content at Aussie English - www.aussieenglish.com.au
And grab my Australian Pronunciation Course here - www.aussieenglish.com.au/courses

YES Pete I'm so glad you included "How ya going?" in this one! That phrase is the pride of Australia and you don't really hear it anywhere else. It even confuses the hell out of Americans and Brits a lot of the time. "What do you mean how am I *going*? By car, I guess...?"
It's possible its use varies across the country but I'd say it may actually be the single most common greeting here in Sydney - especially from women, for whatever reason. You'll hear it from both guys and girls of course, but with guys you'll sometimes hear "G'day mate" or something like that, from girls it'll be "Hi, how you going?" more often than not.

The Aussie accent/contractions and Cape Bretoner accent/contractions are very similar I must say,
The are some differentiations we dont got the Aussie accent of course,
Our accent is a mix of Irish/Scottish/French/Gaelic/ and many more. The Cape Breton Island Contractions are the same pretty much and we talk quite fast compared to the rest of North America, The Mainlanders of Nova Scotia have a hard time understanding are accent and sayings haha,
It can feel like a hastle to slow down my speech for Mainlanders.
We turn small talk into one word,
“Sea-ya-ladder-on” for (See you later on)
“be-dah-ken-do-ya!”,”Peace”,”Av-A-good-one” for “I will see you again/talking to you again!”,
We use “Ows-id-goin”,”Ows-she-goin”,”Ow-she-be”,”Ow-she-do for (How are you doing!)
Talking to everyone as a greater we use “Whads-up”,“Sup”,”Sco-In-on”,”Eh-bi”,”U-Sayin”,”Eh-man”
Some ones Ive only heard from here are “Jee-yet” for (Have you eaten yet) “Right” for (Do you understand) or for (Alright/Okay/Yes/No) words have many meanings depending on tone around here, but we pronounce “Right” with a flat t, we don’t really pronounce t’s they makes words right long, we pronounce T as D or kig it oud all tageder (kick it out all together) Australia like “Oz-raily-ya”.
    Cool video!! from 🇨🇦

Although the words are different, the way the words, syllables, and spaces are shortened are very similar to the Eastern North Carolina accent. My fiancée had to have a translation like Hot Fuzz with the UK cockney accent scene.

Could "what's up" intonation means something like "angry?".
I'm Brazilian and you might know that in Portuguese the same sentence can vary a lot just changing the intonation. I'd been taught that in English the intonation is "less important" than the sentence structure but when I lived in Melbourne I got the impression that the Australian English uses intonation more than I was expecting. What is your opinion about it?
    》love your TH-cam channel!

    • @AussieEnglishPodcast
      @AussieEnglishPodcast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Hmmmm, difficult one. It could be depending on the intonation, but you'd have to have pretty angry intonation I think.
